vChapter 12
Chapter 12
Augustus felt like he couldn’t breathe for a second.
It wasn’t the slap that hurt him. Even though the slap was pretty hard, his cheek wasn’t the place he was hurting the most.
It was his heart.
He gulped and looked at the girl, who looked at him with so much haired in her eyes that he felt suffocated for a second. He loosened his tie to be able to breathe.
Even though he knew that he shouldn’t have kissed her like that, seeing her happy with other alphas and not giving him any attention as if he did not exist for her had pissed him off.
And
seeing her doing a critical operation successfully overwhelmed him with happiness. He wanted to congratulate her and tell her he was proud of her before asking her what the truth was, but when he smelt her scent and she came so close to him, for a moment he lost sight of his emotions and acted impulsively.
However, he hadn’t expected that Alexis would end up slapping him like that.
“You really crossed a line here, Alpha Augustus. I was born with your atrocious attitude earlier because I didn’t want to create a scene, but your ego really doesn’t see any boundaries, does it?” Alexis asked, seething in pain and anger.
She was hurt because of how easy this man thought she was, and he could get away with kissing her. Because that was the image she had made of herself in his eyes.
And she was angry at herself for ever falling into that folklore and falling for this mate bond shit that made her suffer for so long and has given her nightmares for life.
“You don’t cease to amaze me, Alpha. Are you here to torment me? No, let me rephrase it. Are you here to finish the task that your goons couldn’t do four years ago? To take advantage of my weakness? Rape me? And then kill me and discard my body so that you can get me out of your way?” Alexis asked, her eyes dark.
Her words immediately made Augustus nearly snarl at her.
“Have you lost your mind? What the hell are you talking about? You have mentioned this thrice already. What goons. are you talking about? I don’t know about anyone,” Augustus stepped ahead, backing her into the wall, not touching. her this time though.
Alexis looked at him with a mocking smile.
“At this point, if you are feigning ignorance even after three times, I suggest you become an actor, Alpha Augustus. You have a really good scope there,” Alexis said,
“Alexis, can we “Augustus started with a troubled expression.
He wanted to ask her if they could put the past away and be together like carlier. He didn’t know what exactly happened that night for her to change so much, but if she could forget that one night and rt over again.
However, before he could utter anything, the door of the cabin was opened and Alpha Dawson walked inside.
He looked at the ambiguous position they were in and sighed.
“Princess, it’s time to eat. Let’s go,” Dawson said without even looking at Augustus this time.
Augustus didn’t like the way Dawson addressed his woman. If there was any man who should be allowed to call her

princess then it should be him.
“Watch what you are saying.” Alpha Dawson. She isn’t your woman,” Augustus’s expression turned dark, surprising the two people in the room with his jealous reaction.
Dawson didn’t back away. Rather, he smirked at the alpha in front of him.
“Yeah? Last time I checked, she wasn’t your woman either. Besides, she might not be mine at the moment, but she will be soon, Alpha Dawson said, the confidence in his eyes hinting at the possible future alliance.
Augustus looked at Alexis for confirmation. Was what Dawson said true? She was soon going to tie knots with him?
Seeing the absence of any retaliation from the girl, Augustus felt his world spin for a moment as his mind was consumed with a wave of unexplainable anger and a wave of emotions.
He clenched his fists around the documents he was still holding and walked out of the cabin without saying anything.
As soon as Augustus left. Alexis breathed a sigh of relief.
“Did you have to say that to him?” She asked Dawson.
She staggered backward, closing her eyes momentarily to control her emotions.
Dawson looked at the girl who was breathing heavily and probably trying her best to not cry in front of him and lose her shit. He took a deep breath before turning his expression neutral again.
“I think that was the quickest way to get him out of the room without causing much of a scene. Anyways, are you done analyzing the case? Will you be able to attend the meeting yourself?” Dawson asked.
Alexis groaned.
She had completely forgotten about the meeting she promised she would attend in place of Andrew.
It was a meeting arranged by her father regarding the foreign exchange program with the other countries with not only scholarships for school but work permits too. They needed to discuss what kind of work they would allow initially and the trial period.
And when they would be at it, she would hint at the expansion of their pack’s training grounds outside in another country as a starting point of their expansion that no one in the country would be able to question.
“Judging from your expression, I don’t think I will hear any positive answer anytime soon,” Dawson said, and Alexis
smiled.
“Huh, come on, we still have some time on our hands. Let me brief you up while we dine,” Dawson practically held her hand to pull her out of the hospital.
“I have some appointments later. I will return after eating and continue in the evening. Okay?” Alexis said, and Dawson hummed vaguely.
He looked around and when he didn’t see Augustus’s car, he sighed in relief.
“What are you looking at?” Alexis asked but Dawson just shook his head.
In the Black Hour Club, Augustus sat in one of the private cubicles with his group of so–called friends including a couple of alphas and their betas, who were busy drinking, a heavy feeling clogging his heart.
Chapter 12
“Man, have you reconciled with your Luna? She appeared quite angry last time. One of the alphas asked.
The alpha chuckled before scratching the back of his head.
“Well, what can we say? Our angry wives are sometimes a signal that they love us, no? Besides, is there anything that a little love and money can’t solve? I indeed sinned by being busy on our anniversary day. But later I made it up with her with h some gifts and you know… The alpha trailed off, and the others chuckled.
“At this point, I can’t even blame some of our wives who are housewives. We have the world to travel and meet, but for them, we are their little world. And they don’t even complain about that. Showering them with gifts, our time, and whatever they want is the last thing that we can do for them. Another alpha chimed in.
“Well, my wife just straightaway demands what she needs because she knows what kind of forgetful man I am. It’s better that way. The beta said.
Augustus, who had been feeling angry earlier and drinking, heard all those words and thought about his marriage too.
He thought hard to think of any one thing that he bought for Alexis out of love or any feeling, anytime he bought any flowers for her, or fulfilled any luxurious demand.
Apart from her monthly allowance, which she didn’t even spend on anything else other than vegetables and house products, were there any expenses that he noticed at that time!
Augustus’s fists clenched as the anger consumed him even more and he drank bottle after bottle to calm his anger.
At the same time. Marianna, who was informed their alpha was here, rushed to the club to take him home.
“Alpha, you have drunk quite a lot. Let’s Marianna held his hand.
However, what she hadn’t expected was for the man to jerk her hand away.
“Don’t touch me, woman. I belong to someone else,” Augustus snarled before he fished out his phone and dialed a number.
Marianna, who stood there, frozen in her place, her cheeks burning from embarrassment, looked at the other alphas, who had an awkward look and immediately looked away.
Alexis, who had just reached the High Hotel that was only 5 minutes away from the club, furrowed her brow when she received a call from an unknown number.
“Hello? Who is –” she stopped.
Her heart thumped loudly. She didn’t need anyone to tell her who it was.
Even after four years of breaking off their marriage, his breathing was enough for her to recognize him.
Not wanting to spoil her mood, she was about to end the call when Augustus spoke.
“Honey, please take me home with you. I am drunk at this club and I feel good. Please come, Augustus said.
Alexis’s heart clenched painfully at the nickname he used.
“Mr. Augustus Volkov, you really think highly of yourself. Do you think I will come to pick you up after everything?” Alexis growled on the phone and was about to end the call when Augustus spoke again.
“I know, right? Why would you? Only I loved you for these four years and never got you out of my head. But if you ever love me truly, you will come and pick me up. I will wait for you,” he said, and without waiting for her reply, he ended the call, tears brimming his eyes, making him close his eyes and lean back in his chair.
Chapter 12
Please come for me. Alexis. Hold me before I lose my hope and mind. Don’t abandon me. Augustus’s deepest sadness started to engulf his heart.
