Chapter 8
Chapter 8
“Are you okay?” Dawson askel Alexis as soon as Augustus and Marianna left their table.
Alexis smiled bitterly before nodding and sitting at their table.
“Are you sure you want to dine here? We can come to check the dishes later. I don’t want you to be uncomfortable,” Dawson said when he noticed how she was clenching her lists to control her emotions.
Alexis shook her head at him.
She didn’t want to leave. She didn’t want to run anymore. It was the part of her ugly past that she had to face sooner or later. She was done letting that man affect her life. They weren’t related anymore and she needed to stop giving him that much reign over her life and thoughts.
A man like him didn’t deserve her time or thoughts.
“Let’s just eat,” Alexis smiled forcefully.
Dawson, who saw her struggling and knew how hard it had been for her for the last four years, grabbed her hand to
comfort her.
“Everything will be fine, Lexi. You will get over him. And one day when you’ll look back at all your struggles, you will be proud of yourself for pulling yourself out of somewhere where you weren’t respected, Dawson.
Alexis nodded.
She knew he was right. She would be proud of herself once she got over this man completely. But the question was, would she ever be alle to?
This was the man she gave her two years of unconditional love to. The man she wanted so badly that she left her father, her identity, her pack, everything just to be with him.
Alexis shook her head and continued to order her food.
At the same time. Augustus, who was sitting at some distance and saw Dawson holding Alexis’s hand again and again while patting her back, felt an inexplicable amount of anger coursing in his veins.
He was going mad over searching for her for the last four years and here she was dining with another alpha as if nothing happened, as if there was nothing wrong in the world.
How could she really be so calm and collected after what she made him go through?
“Alexis has changed a lot. It’s almost as if she is a completely different person now. Why does she not want to recognize us anymore? It’s like she wants to sever all ties with us,” Marianna said with a worried look on her face, and Augustus, who had come to dine between his work schedule because his beta insisted, didn’t feel like eating anymore. Seeing the woman who used to think about him only smile at another man like this, took all his appetite away.
“You order whatever you want to eat. I remember I had something to do,” Augustus stood from his table and left the restaurant, the absence of his scent not going unnoticed by Alexis who finally dined in peace with Dawson.
“Aren’t you going to invite me in?” Dawson asked as he dropped Alexis in front of her apartment building. Alexis looked at the man with a mischievous smile.

“Of course” She paused, smiling at the hope in the man’s eyes.
-not,” She added and Dawson sighed at her.
“Seriously, has anyone ever told you how annoying you are?” Dawson grinned. He had already expected that kind of answer from her.
“No. Be the first one, please,” Alexis grinned back, and the man chuckled before ruffling her hair and leaving.
As soon as she saw his car speeding away, she immediately dropped the fake smile that she had forced herself on to make him believe everything was alright.
“You know, at this point, I must believe you are a born actress,”
She heard a voice at some distance and her body froze in its place.
She turned around, her gaze meeting with those blazing amber ones, and her fists clenched immediately.
Without giving him any attention, she walked towards the lift.
She pushed the close button as soon as she got in, only to be interrupted by Augustus, who placed his hand between the doors and walked in.
Alexis flinched back in her place when he entered, a reaction that Augustus failed to notice.
Then again, was there anything about her that he ever noticed?
“Don’t you think you owe me an explanation and apology for leaving me like this?” Augustus asked.
Alexis, who was looking at the floor numbers, hoping she could teleport into her apartment, closed her eyes to think about something else and blocked his voice.
“Closing your eyes won’t make me disappear. Give me the answers I am looking for, and I will leave in peace. You owe this to someone who has been looking for you for 4 years, Augustus said.
Alexis opened her eyes as soon as the doors opened and she walked out.
“How did you get my address?” She asked, wanting to berate herself for asking such a dumb question.
She was in Alpha Augustus’s area. Of course, getting her address was like nothing for him.
“Nevermind. Can you not come here again?” Alexis said, and without waiting for his reply, she opened the door to her apartment.
She was about to close the door after entering when Augustus placed his foot at the entrance, blocking her actions. “Do you not hear me? I want an explanation,” Augustus glared at the woman, strangely bothered by her nonchalance. An explanation of why she left? Did he really want to hear that from her mouth?
As Alexis looked at the man, she was reminded of what those thugs wanted to do to her and how they mentioned it was all Alpha Augustus who asked them to do that so he could get married to Marianna.
Thinking back to times and seeing his actions now, he was probably angry that his methods didn’t work, and rather than hearing about her death, he had to hear about the rejection.
And why not? An egoistic man like him must’ve taken a heavy blow on his ego.
Alexis blinked back the tears that threatened to fall before she looked straight into his eyes.

“Wasn’t that exactly what you wanted? Looking for me? Was it because your plans failed and you wanted to know how 1 escaped hell that night? To send goons my way so they could rape me and you could blame me for being indecent and impure and marry the love of your life, you really crossed my expectancy of how low you
could stoop. What answer do you need?” Alexis asked, her words full of pain and disgust.
Augustus, who was surprised to hear those words, looked at her in confusion.
What was she talking about? What goons? And what love of his life? He never loved anyone apart – he paused his thoughts when he saw a tear rolling down Alexis’s eyes.
His hand instinctively reached up to wipe that tear, but before his fingers could touch her face, Alexis swatted his hand away.
“Don’t touch me with your filthy hands, Alpha Augustus. I used to bear all that injustice because I was madly in love with you. After all, you were my mate, but not anymore. Do you want to know the truth of why I left? It’s because I hate you. I hate you so much that I want to slap myself for two years straight for ever loving a man like you. H–how could you?” Alexis said through her emotions, but Augustus couldn’t concentrate on anything else.
“What do you mean by rape? What orders? I don’t understand anything.” Augustus held her shoulders, wanting to hear the answer.
Alexis, on the other hand, looked at the man pathetically.
“And you call me a born actress? Look at yourself in the mirror. Such an innocent act,” Alexis scoffed before she pushed the man away when she realized her emotions were drifting off again and slammed the door in his face. Augustus stood rooted to his place as her words went over and over again in his head.
His wolf howled in pain and he felt an excruciating ache in his chest, making him stumble back.
Her words didn’t make sense to him. Why was she saying things like goons and rape again and again?
“Someone has entered the house breaking the window. No one is here. Please come back. I am scared. Also-” He remembered Alexis saying those words on the phone four years ago.
And then he saw blood too when he returned.
Could it be… His heart thumped loudly and he was about to knock on the door again when he heard the sound of something breaking from the inside of the apartment and his hands paused mid–air.
He stood there for some reason before quickly blinking his emotions away.
No. He was an Alpha. He wasn’t supposed to drift like this.

Rather than getting emotional, he should be focussing on finding the truth of what exactly happened that night. Augustus thought.
