Chapter 16
Chapter 16
A few minutes ago inside the room—
As soon as Alexis left the rooms, the drunken stupor Augustus was pretending to be in immediately washed away from his face and he sat there with a serious expression.
Without wasting any time, he was about to dial Mark’s number when he received the call instead.
His brows furrowed as he picked up the call.
“Yes!”
“Sir, where are you? Marianna has been calling me nonstop from earlier. In fact, she has been bombarding your chauffeur too. She said Miss Alexis took you against your will and might do something to you,” Mark said.
Augustus rolled his eyes at the choice of words and told Mark to not disclose he even talked to him. Rather, he wanted Mark to tell Marianna that Alexis took him out of the town so that she would stop looking for him and leave him alone for the night. He wasn’t a kid.
He didn’t want her to find her here and there was no way she would call Alexis directly.
After giving him such orders, he took a deep breath.
“Can I ask you a question, sir?” Mark said after a drawn–out silence.
Augustus hummed. Mark was one of his most trusted men, and he didn’t find the need to hide anything from him. “What are you exactly planning, sir? You are acting drunk to be close to Miss Alexis, but what after that?” Mark said.
Augustus sighed.
He stood from his place before taking out his cigar and lighting it up.

“Honestly, I don’t know. Am I looking for the answers and truth of her identity or am I just trying to find το spend time with her? At this point I don’t know. When I called her tonight, I didn’t know what I was thinking either.
However, one thing is for sure, my delusion about her being materialistic and the main reason behind hating her is all false. My hatred was unjustified, Augustus said.
Mark didn’t say anything for some time.
He just stood there in the office looking at the files before raising his head.
“I understand, sir. But do you really think Miss Alexis will be able to forgive you after everything you did? Your hatred was unjustified. Can this simple sentence heal all the wounds you gave her?” Mark asked, and for the first time, without waiting for his boss to speak, he ended the call.
Why? Because he was the one who witnessed everything so closely.
The time when his alpha left his wife standing in the rain in the middle of a highway after dining with her because he was irritated by the genuine smile she was giving him.
Because he was the one who used to take pity on Miss Alexis and take her home most of the time, telling her that it was their boss’s idea when his boss never bothered to check up on her.
Because he was the one who would give her a handkerchief to wipe her tears out of pity after being insulted by his
boss.

Bes ause he saw the little happiness inside her, the happiness of being with her mate dying slowly.
Honestly, if Miss Alexis decided she didn’t want to be with his boss or ever see his face, he wouldn’t exactly feel so had for his alpha even when he vouched his loyalty to him. He knew that his alpha deserved every second of that hate that he forced into the heart of a girl like Alexis who used to love him unconditionally.
The beep sound of the call ending made Augustus look at the phone and push his phone back into his pocket.
His subordinate’s words were like a waking call to him.
Mark was right.
Augustus recalled all the hatred and disgust he saw in Alexis’s eyes in the last two days of his meeting with her and his heart ached terribly.
He knew he made a lot of mistakes in the past and he was rearly for redemption. This journey to get his wife back wasn’t going to be busy, but he was ready to feel the same humiliation he once made her go through if that would ease her pain.
Augustus looked at the time.
Alexis said she would be back in half an hour. It was forty minutes already.
With a sigh, he dialed another number and waited for the person to pick up the call.
“Yes, Alpha Augustus?” The old man’s curt voice, and a smile appeared on Augustus’s face.
“How is my grandfather?” He asked.
The man on the other side scoffed.
“You should know how your grandfather’s health has been deteriorating. But rather than helping him improve, you only aggravate him more. It’s been four years, and you are yet to find a suitable woman who can give you an heir, The old man, the butler of his grandfather, said and Augustus sighed.
“I am not sure if this news is going to make much difference. Tell Grandpa, Alexis is back. She is finally here. And don’t need to worry much. I will take her here to meet him, Augustus said before ending the call.
It looked like it was time to act drunk again. Maybe throwing a tantrum will help him in getting her close. Augustus thought before he exited the room with a mischievous smile on his face.
Alexis, on the other hand, as soon as she heard Augustus’s voice, her eyes widened and she gulped, becoming really uncomfortable.
Having her identity exposed as the Alpha’s daughter, especially the alpha of the Enceladus pack, the second pack in the nation to him, was the last thing she wanted to happen, especially when she was trying to ensure that she strongest
would end her internship and leave this place.
Her low rank as an omega without having a wolf was also a reason he hated her in the past. At that time she had lied about her rank to gain his love because he once said he liked weak women so he could take care of them, and it was the biggest mistake of her life.
She did not know what changed suddenly, but she needed him to keep hating her so she could leave in peace.
“Who is this man causing a scene?” Alpha Hade said and Alexis smiled forcefully.
Alpha Lucifer, who was observing her from the moment she entered the room, smirked.

“Let’s adjourns the meeting for today,” Alpha Lucifer said.
The other four alphas, who were thinking of what to order, the elders, looked at him in confusion.
Though Alpha Lucifer was the youngest of all the male alphas present in the room, he was also known as the most dangerous alpha after Alpha Augustus, known for his viciousness.
It was the mystery revolving around his pack that secured him a spot in the list of most dangerous. He was never seen to interact with other alphas, nor was anyone allowed to step inside his pack without a special permit.
His pack soldiers were even given a special badge so that they could be recognized from a distance. His pack was also the one who killed 367 rogues in the last year without anyone’s help.
“Are you sure about that, Alpha Lucifer? We are yet to discuss the strategies, Alpha Blaze asked.
Alpha Lucifer nodded before he stood from his place and buttoned his coat.
“Let’s not take too much of Miss‘ time. She looks like she needs to be somewhere,” Alpha Lucifer said and Alexis realized he was doing it for her.
A thankful smile appeared on her face as all the alphas started to rise from their places.
“We shall arrange another meeting for the strategic discussion. After all, we have to give the reports of how we are planning to handle the issue to both the council and Alpha Augustus, Alpha Hade said.
“We will arrange the meeting soon. It’s okay if you are available too, Alpha Blaze said again and Alexis smiled at them thankfully before all of them went their ways.
The four elders left together to eat dinner.
As soon as Alexis exited the room, she followed the noise and finally reached the area near the lift where Augustus was leaning on the wall.
As drunk as Augustus wanted to look, he was still the strongest alpha with a reputation and didn’t want to cause much drama.
“Honey,” He said, throwing his body on Alexis as soon as he saw her.
“Let’s go,” Alexis didn’t waste her time scolding him there.
She pressed the button of the lift while supporting her, unbeknownst to the fact that a particular Alpha who took interest in her, observed everything with a smirk on his face.
They were hurrying the meetings because they were afraid of the strongest Alpha, and looked at this girl, who already had him wrapped around her finger.
But why? What exactly was going on here? The information he gathered said nothing about her relationship status. Judging from how Alexis’s expression had paled afte
r hearing that honey word, he knew it was intended for her only.
But then again, he was back to the same question.
Exactly why?
