Alpha's Cursed Luna

Chapter 42

ALEXANDER

"What happened?” I ask her, whilst she just avoided my questioning gaze and glued her eyes to the floor.

She shook her head briefly before glancing up at me with a look of uncertainty in her blood-red eyes. There was a hint of nervousness in them as well which gradually disappeared the longer she fixed her eyes on me.

“I just want to go home,” She mumbles.

I stared at her for a few more seconds before letting out a sigh of defeat.

"Fine, let's go.” I eyed Linda who was also staring at Eleanor with a nervous look on her pale face. We headed to the car while I carried her three bags and put them in the backseat.

Eleanor decided to keep her silence during the entire drive back home. Glancing at her face and posture as she looked out the window, I noticed that her mood changed into a different level I couldn't quite reach, nor can I bring myself to grasp the emotions dwindling behind it.

I then forced my gaze back to the road, gripping the stirring wheel around both my hands as I tried to mind link my beta.

“Elijah, talk to me.’

“What?’ His voice ringed from the other end of the line, and I furrowed my brows at his irritated tone.

Elijah clears his throat before muttering, “Sorry, Al. I just...nevermind. What's the matter? I've known Elijah for a long time, and I definitely know when he's feeling stressed out or annoyed about a particular thing, especially when it came to...

I sighed, trying not to tear my gaze away from the road.

“It's Veronyka, isn't it?" It was a rhetorical question, because I knew. He told me everything. And the reason why he cannot claim his true fated mate.

I hear him let out an exasperated sigh before silence briefly took over.

“I'm torn, Al. I don't know what to do. I try not to think about her but I do. All fucking time.’

A smile crept to my face at Elijah’s words. So he does want her.

“It's a natural thing, bro. You can't resist the bond. You're mates, even if she doesn't know it yet."

“I know, and that's the fucking worst part,’ He groans.

I chuckled lightly and said, “We'll talk more about this later,’

“Where is Nick?" I ask.

“He's waiting for you outside your office. Alex, why didn’t you tell me?’ He huffed. Worry crystal clear in his rough voice.

“I was going to." I responded, truthfully.

Then we'll be waiting for you right here. You owe me.’

I sighed before cutting off the link.

Unbuckling my seatbelt, I glanced at Eleanor’s side only to find her already in a deep sleep. Her head leaned against the rolled window, holding her hands close to her lap.

I took a few seconds to take in her appearance. Her sweet vanilla scent with a light hint of delicious strawberries lingered through the air. I leaned over towards her, removing thin strands of hair covering her closed eyes and small nose.

I blinked at her, trailing my gaze down her face and her neck. There was an alluring smell nestling in her neck, almost inviting.

I grazed my fingers on her delicate face when she clenched her eyes, moaning slightly.

“Fuck’

Soon I let my eyes settle on her plump, juicy lips.

Before I even get any idea, I cleared my throat, shaking my head.

The first time I made a sound seemed too weak to wake her, but the third time I tried she began to open her eyes.

"We're home.” I gave her a smile and her eyes flew wide open.

"S-Sorry... I didn't mean to...” She mumbles as she tries to regain her senses and took in her surroundings.

I got out of the car and opened the passenger door.

Eleanor looked up at me as she set her foot down the ground. It was night, and her blood red eyes gleamed under the shining moonlight that has risen above.

She's beautiful.

I stood back, taking her hand as she closed the door behind her, which she reluctantly accepts. I wasn't sure what changed her after she came out through that door. But I made sure to question Linda about it soon after dealing with the other problem

We walked into the pack house in silence. Her hand intertwined in mine while Eleanor kept her gaze fixed on a certain distance.

I escorted her towards her room. As soon as she opened her bedroom door, she turned to me.

“I had a great day today, Alex.” She plasters a bright smile on her beautiful face. Though I knew it was slightly forced, I didn't want to interrogate her any further than I should. For tonight.

"Well, except for that one time you almost ran over that truck,” She pointed out, referring to the incident which happened earlier.

“I'll be more careful next time. And by the way, thank you.. For saving them.”

Eleanor furrowed her brows. Confusion evident in her eyes as she squinted them at me.

“Them?”

“There was a man and a little girl inside that truck. I could've hit them, if it weren't for you” I stared into her eyes intently.

And if even one of them died, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself for my whole damn life.

She stared into an empty space for some time, contemplating.

"Well the most important thing is that we're all alive,” She says with an enthusiastic tone.

"Ahm.. Thank you again for these clothes,” She slightly lifted the bags I handed to her before she was supposed to enter her room, and I ran my tongue along my teeth before taking a small step forward. Intending to get closer to her as her scent has been driving my wolf wild crazy since the day she stepped into my life.

Lifting my right arm, I leaned it on the wall right beside her door. Staring down playfully while I smiled smugly at her. She immediately stumbled back, and gripped on the edge of the door for support.

“If you want to thank me, won't you thank me with a kiss?” I winked at her and enjoyed watching her entire face redden in seconds.

She bit her lip and looked straight into my eyes, hesitating. My wolf growls, warning me of his desire getting even stronger. Having the same mind, I knew my wolf wanted to mark her immediately after she what she did. Seducing me without even realizing exactly what she’s doing to me. How every movement she makes creates an impact that boosts my inner desire to possess her.

Seconds passed but we remained in the same position. I sighed.

I was about to speak and tell her good night when she suddenly tip-toed and kissed me right on the lips.

I froze for a moment, but soon my lips arched to form a stupid grin I couldn't wipe off my face. "Good night”

She gives me yet another smile and once again, I find myself at a loss for words to describe how she enchanted me with such incomparable sight.

"Good night, Alex”

“These are photographs captured through the security cameras that night, at the Royal Winder's Dinner. 10:47 pm.”

I stared hard and long at the couple of photos spread on my table. One in which I was present. At the exact time a woman had suddenly bumped into me, which is intriguing, actually. As I scanned each photo, it was clear the woman had deliberately crashed her body onto me, so as to distract me or something. I wasn't sure, however, if she really was drunk at the same time.

“Who is she?”

"Her name is Barbara Devine. Daughter of the current gamma in the Blue Mountains Pack.” Nick instantly announced.

I furrowed my brows, looking back at the picture in my hand, squinting my eyes.

She's from Eleanor’s pack.

“Did you confirm if it was this woman who drugged our drinks?” I ask without glancing up at him. "Yes, Alpha. A witness saw her dropping suspicious amounts of liquid in one of the drinks.” He uttered.

"What about her motive?” My head snapped up, staring at my beta leaning against the wall. His arms folded against his chest and his other heel touching the wall just above the floor.

Elijah stared, with his brows knitted tightly together, at the array of photos Nick had brought to the table after three days.

I turned my gaze towards Nick who shook his head slightly before bowing his head in visible shame and guilt.

“Forgive me, Alpha. I couldn't find anything about her motive.”

He regretfully announces.

I let a few seconds pass by before heaving out a sharp breath. To make it clear, I wasn't feeling mad or disappointed or anything, especially not towards Nick. I know he spent three whole days back there just to retrieve the necessary information I needed, and he did do his best.

I nodded my head slightly before slowly rising to my feet.

“I see. You're dismissed, good job.” I say as I waited for him to turn around and exit my office room. Now I was standing alone faced with an angry-looking Elijah right in front. Clenching his jaw as if he was trying to suppress words from escaping his throat.

"What?" I raised my voice a little, dragging my beta out of his damn thoughts

“I could've stopped her,” He mutters under his breath, tearing his eyes off the floor before looking up at me straight in the eye.

"Feeling upset at what's already done is rather pointless, wouldn't you agree?” I walked round the table and stopped on the spot right beside him.

Elijah took one glance at my face and said, “What next?” His arms still folded against him as he spoke.

His words resonated in my ears as I contemplated on my next move.

Just then, I snapped my eyes to meet Elijah's.

"Keep an eye on her while I visit her pack. See what I could find."

I bolted towards the door, grabbing my keys before sauntering down the staircase as I hear Elijah call out my name from behind.
