Chapter Shifters
Celine's POV:
"We are not just going to run into the woods and let everything put on our luck." Alpha Tyrion said once he noticed my despair, "I will formulate a proper plan and strategy. We just need to follow that. Believe me, it's not that difficult." I could only hope that this challenge would not be so difficult for me because Alpha Tyrion was a pretty good match for those beasts.
"Will they attack us?" I asked.
"Do you think any shifter will come to a kingdom on his or her own? They will try their best to not get caught but we don't have to hurt them." He said.
Beta Remy gave us twenty minutes to plot and frame a plan for the task. Alpha Tyrion and I, went to sit in a quiet corner where he took a small notepad and a pen. He drew the map of the forest and marked the danger points. "See, this is the map of the woods. I have marked the areas where the shifters usually roam. " He said.
I was amazed to by the knowledge he had about the woods and this whole kingdom. That's what a full prepared contestant looked like. I listened intently to him as he explained about the escape routes for the shifters.
"In the den, the lions live. We don't trouble them because they're quite powerful. In the inner woods, you will find snakes, bears, foxes and leopards and bunnies. Who do you think will be the easiest for you to catch?" He asked. "The bunnies! "I exclaimed without even giving it another thought because the other animals were deadly.
He smiled, "They have a speed of lightning though. It's extremely difficult to catch them. They vanish when you blink and run away into the dark forest. "
I licked my lips, " Then which one should be our target according to you?'
"
"We can set traps for bunnies. But if it was me alone, I would have definitely attacked the bear. They do look tough but are easier to handle after a while."
He made the map after marking the trap locations for bunnies and took out a sword, dagger, hunter, nets, sleep inducing thorns and gave me each of them too. We were called back by Beta Remy to the exit of the pack borders. "All the best everyone. May the best couples win."
We made our way to the route which led to the woods. My heart was beating fast and everything was making me dizzy as I thought about the shifters lurking in the dark shadows. As we stood at the entrance mark which stated clearly that the "Kingdom of Zephyr" Ends here and the land of common shifters start from here.
"Let's go."
Ava and Alpha Kristian were right behind us but none of them talked to each other. It was as if Ava had not spoken a single word to him since the announcement of this challenge. She was fuming with anger as her eyes landed on me.
"I guess someone is not going to come back alive, today." She said loud enough for everyone to hear.
Alpha Tyrion gripped my arm tightly and gave her a hard stare. She understood to not open her mouth again.
"Ava stop being so salty." Another Luna answered.
Ava made a face and walked inside the woods while Alpha Kristian ran after her.
"Thank you." I said.
"No problem, Celine. I am Luna Sephora of the Sapphire Moon Kingdom." She introduced herself.
We shook hands and the Alphas did the same.
"Not so tough task. " She said and I nodded without any will.
At some point me and Alpha Tyrion separated from them and went on our different paths. We had to set traps and nets for bunnies but there was no sign of them in the woods. Alpha Tyrion looked around for their scent and foot prints but he couldn't find any. So, we had to walk further into the woods.
"Is everything okay?" I asked him.
"I don't know why the bunnies and even foxes are not here. It's as if they have already hid somewhere."
'I can catch a very peculiar scent around me.' Belinay commented.
I followed the scent which my wolf was feeling at this point. Alpha Tyrion was looking around the smaller trees and shrubs for any signs of those small bunnies. The wind blew across my face and I shivered at the possibility of the danger lurking behind my back. Alpha Tyrion had set up the traps and the nets for the shifters and he was ready with his sword for the first batch of them.
But I could feel someone watching us with so much attention that I snapped my head at the direction of the cause of scent and came face to face with the largest Lioness I had ever seen in my whole life. She roared and the birds flew from the top of the tears. The monkeys made noise and i heard the smaller shifters running to the safe places too.
Alpha Tyrion had noticed her too by now and she immediately stood between me and her. The lioness jumped from the tree and shifted to her human form. Her long hair and golden eyes decorated with the gold jewelry made her an extremely beautiful predator. She smirked when she noticed me trembling with fear.
"So, the Alphas and Lunas were setting traps for those rabbits and foxes. What happened to the brave hearts who would try to bring the Lions as a slave? We rank the highest if you can take me to the pack, you will earn 500 points. A rabbit is just the minimum passing requirement."
Her voice too. It was seductive yet dangerous. She was playing with us and I was lost by her charm. Alpha Tyrion kept himself as a shield between her and me.
"Nobody is pestering you. We need to go back to the pack and finish this task. " He told her.
She raised a brow," Is your mate mute? Or a human? Why doesn't she speak?"
Alpha Tyrion growled, giving her a warning, "I am telling you the last time..."
She shifted within a second and jumped over me. With her claws, she pushed Alpha Tyrion inti a trap making his leg stuck on one of the net. She grabbed my body in her jaws and dragged me deep into the woods as I screamed for Alpha Tyrion.
