Chapter 43
My brows draw together with confusion. "What?! Benjamin is not my father?" I ask in shock as I search her face to see if she is telling a lie, but her expression never changes so I know she isn't lying. "Cypress is your biological father, Chloe. You have had wolf blood coursing through your veins this whole time, but since it was also half-human from your mother’s side, you don't always experience the change. Normally, that would have happened on your 18th birthday, but it obviously didn't" Sukie explains, never breaking my eye contact.
The realization of this bomb she just dropped on me hits me like a ton of bricks. My eyes go wide in
fear. "OH MY GOD! If Cypress is my father, then that means Malachi is my brother WHAT THE
FUCK!!!" I scream and start to pace in a small patch of grass as my hands threaten to rip my hair out.
I can feel Sukie's eyes on me as if she is contemplating the level of my mental breakdown. "STOP!" I
hear beside me as Malachi comes around a tree. I freeze as the word brother rings in my mind and
all the memories of us together play on repeat. I have to force down the bile that's rising in my
throat.
"Wait, Malachi. Let her speak," I demand, putting my hand up to stop him from coming closer. I'm not sure I could hold it together if he touches me. Thankfully, Malachi stops, clearly confused about why I won't let him come to my side. I hear Sukie scoff beside me as she shakes her head. "Chloe, stop freaking out. You didn't have sex or a baby with your brother. Malachi is not Cypress's son. Evadean fell in love with the Alpha of the Cosmopolis pack before Cypress met your mother, so you are not related, but your lives are pretty fucked up," Sukie says, laughing a little.
I take a deep breath, feeling like I'm hyperventilating. "What is this witch bitch talking about?" Malachi demands, looking from me to Sukie and back. I turn to Sukie, "How do we know you are telling the truth?" I question, raising a brow. "I have no reason to lie to you," She declares. Malachi looks between us, confused. "Can someone please tell me what the hell is going on?!" he demands.
I walk to him, wrapping my arms around his torso and look up into his eyes. "Well, my mother is a whore for starters, and your father, who is not your father, was in love with my mother. Cypress is my father, and I am human, werewolf, and witch, but I never changed because of being human, and your father is Evadean's Alpha,” I explained to Malachi in fast pace not taking a breath until i finished, then take a deep breath and turn my attention to Sukie "Did I get that right?” I verified, and she nodded.
Malachi stares, stunned. "Um... I don't know what to say,” He mutters. "Cypress and I were never the bad guys here. When I brought Chloe back, it was because she is Cypress's daughter, and I love him," Sukie declares. "Your mother lied about their deaths and wanted to blame me for it. I put a spell on her to stop her from destroying the whole Aberdeen pack. Your mother was so powerful she had to be stopped.” Sukie says with an expression so soft.
Malachi finally comes out of his trance to stare at Sukie. "So, are you saying that my real father is Gregor, the Alpha of the Cosmopolis?” He questions, puzzled. Sukie gives him a gentle nod. "Where the hell is he then?" Malachi asks, rubbing his temple like this is too much to handle. I put my hand on his shoulder, and he turned to look at me. "I believe her," I tell him, pulling him close to me. "We have to find your mother,” Malachi concludes.
Sukie walks to us, standing only a few feet away. "Don't trust her, Chloe. She is back for a reason and it can't be a good one,” She claims. "What about Cypress? Where is he and why is he hiding?" I question. "He is not hiding. He is hunting,” Sukie replies, turning around and leaving through the same way she appeared. We stand there for a moment, confused.
Malachi walked back to the car and he gave me his shirt to put on, since my clothes shredded when I shifted. We both get in the car and drive away. When we pull into the drive, Malachi parks but neither of us moves. We turn to each other "How come our lives are so fucked up?" I sigh, slouching in the seat. "It seems the Moon Goddess chose us for each other for a reason. We both have spent our lives with fucking liars,” Malachi replies, no emotion on his face.
Malachi turns to me, looking like a lost puppy. I caress his cheek "Go for a drive, have some time to yourself to take all this in. I will be here when you come home. Remember, I love you, Malachi, and this changes nothing of our love for each other. We will get through this together,” I reassure him, pressing a soft kiss on his lips. We break away and he stares into my eyes like he sees every ounce of me. "I love you, Luna," I smile slightly and open the door stepping out.
Malachi drives away, and I stand there, watching his taillights disappear into the night. Once he is out of sight I walk in the house and go straight for our room to shower and change. I take my time in the showering, imagining the water is washing away all my problems and the nasty seconds I thought Malachi and I were related. Talk about cringe worthy. Once I get dressed, I walk back downstairs to make some tea to relax my nerves. I stand there and look out the window, trying to wonder if I can trust my mother or not. Was it safe to believe and trust Sukie? I jump out of my skin as the teapot starts whistling on the stove. “Ugh, Chloe, why are you so jumpy?’ I think, grabbing the pot and pouring my tea into a cup and walking to the front porch to take a seat in the rocking chair, but suddenly I get a sense that I'm not alone. "Chloe?" A voice whispers in the night.
