Chapter 76
Lorena POV
It's been one week since the contest was paused because of Danielle's death and since everyone spoke badly about me pointing fingers at me for being responsible for the death of Danielle. Thanks to Fenrir who made sure everything was sorte out. If not for him then I could have become a scapegoat or worst still become an outcast among the humans and a sacrifice for the werewolves.
“how long before the contest starts?” I asked miss donna who was preparing me for the final contest. We were both in my room without exchanging any words.
“in an hour my lady," she replied.
I heaved a deep sigh as I was dressed up in long pants by Miss Donna who handed me my helmet to wear since the final contest was about horse riding. The killer was still on the loose, Danielle was gone forever, and Angelica was released from her room and allowed to watch the final match. Because Danielle died, Hallie and I were the only ones left and the battle was between us.
The crown of the noble consort.
This would determine my fate if I was going to remain a concubine forever or get the revenge that I wanted on the werewolves. I doubt if I could still do the revenge because I had already fallen and confessed my love to Fenrir. Even though he had not said it back, I believed that he must have felt something for me. I mean he came back for me and saved me from the assailant.
I was grateful for everything that he did for me. it was all thanks to him for saving my life. “This contest sucks” I complained and that was the truth. The contest sucked to the point of feeling that it was pointless. Fenrir had made the last contest eas) by riding horses and returning in one piece. I had no idea why he chose that concept but it was all good as long as it doesn’ involve fighting.
“you shouldn't complain like that my lady” Miss Donna tightened the boot on my legs and I winced in pain due to its tightness. I couldn't complain about the tightness of the shoe because Miss Donna would scold the hell out of me and I hated that.
I didn't want them to make me feel she wasn't doing enough. I bite my lower lips to endure the pain until it was all over. “I hate this last contest already," I groaned and tried to rest my back on the chair but it was slapped by Miss Donna who shook her head in response.
“Don't you dare do that!” she yelled at me and I visibly gulped afraid of what she could do. Miss Donna was scary on her par and I believed that she was doing all of that to make sure I didn't give up and lose to Hallie. “you have to become noble consort," she said and I nodded in response.
“Becoming the noble consort is the only way to prove yourself worthy to everyone around you especially the humans whom you promised to liberate”
I nodded in response remembering the humans that I promised to protect. Miss Donna was right about me protecting the humans and that was my plan from the beginning until I fell for Fenrir and forgot about my revenge of getting rid of him. Jus the thought of that made me stare at miss donna and wondered why she uttered such a word.
What was she aiming at? I thought as I continued staring at her.
“is there something on my face?” she asked and I quickly averted my eyes. The sleeve of her long gown slightly lifted and I saw the scratches of fingers visible around her. cleared my throat and wondered how she got the scratches. She had no idea that her sleeve had lifted from her gown and I pretended that I didn't see it. I didn't bother asking questions about the scratches because it was suspicious.
How did she get it and from where? Those were the thoughts in my head as I stared at the mirror. After pondering on the matter for a few seconds, I should shake my head knowing full well that Miss Donna was not a crazy person and she had no evil intentions against me.
Ever since I met her, she had been a great person to me and I see her as a mother figure. She wasn't the type of person to hurt others and she was not the type to attack others.
She doesn't have the physique of a killer. I trusted her enough to believe that she would ever do a thing of such.
“is there something bothering my lady?” she asked but I shook my head in response. There was absolutely nothing wrong with me as I was perfectly fine but still had a lot of worries in her heart. I worried for Danielle who could have been alive an in my place and I also worried for myself who almost got killed by an unknown person who wanted me dead.
Someone who was out for me and ready to ruin my life.
“I am just worried about this competition,” I told her and she placed her hands on my shoulder. “everything is going to be fine” she assured me and I nodded in response because I believed in her word.
I had no right to suspect someone like her because all she ever did was believe in me. “you were lucky to get this spot again and I hope that you use it wisely and become the noble consort. Since this part is about horse riding, there are a few lesson that I can tell you about before the competition commences,” she said and I adjusted myself on the seat listening with rapt attention to what she was about to tell me.
“I used to horse ride as a kid when my father was alive and the basic thing is to get acquainted with your horse,’ she said. “Acquainted?”
She nodded in response and walked to my front. She grabbed my hand and placed it on my chest. “The truth about horse riding is to bond with your animal. Once you have done that, you and your horse become one and you will be able to contro him thereby leading yourself to victory."
I nodded in response and smiled at her. “That is great” told her. “so, I should bond with the horse and it would be in my favor?” I asked her to make sure that I heard her right.
“yes,” she replied. “the horse might be an animal but it believes in its owner, and would never fail them. It would be just like when you promised to save the humans and get revenge on the werewolf king”
I nodded knowing fully well that I was already breaking my promise. I had fallen so hard for Fenrir that it would become hart to get revenge on him.
