Chapter 32
Ella’s POV
It feels strange when I don’t hear back from Elena.
Something like this has never happened before. Whenever I have called her, she has always responded to my call. My heart drops in my stomach, and for some unknown reason, I feel abandoned, which can’t be true as she can never leave me.
I snap out my thoughts when Oliver grabs my hand and pulls me with him. I let him drag him as I try to gather my thoughts to figure out what is going on.
Oliver clutches my hand tightly as I notice we are heading outside. I look at him questioningly, but he keeps walking while looking straight ahead.
“Where are we going?” I ask him while looking around the empty campus ground.
There is no one in sight, yet it feels like we are being watched, which alerts my wolf.
“Not we.” He shakes his head and clenches and unclenches his jaws. “Only you.”
Snatching my hand from his, I stop walking and look at him.
“What do you mean by only me?” I frown at him.
“This place is not safe, Ella.” His jaws twitch, and he again holds my hand, “I can’t let you stay here. So you are leaving right now.” He takes out something from his pocket and places it in my hand.
Looking down, I find a small knife.
I can feel the knife is charmed, so I know it isn’t an ordinary knife.
“I have charmed it.” He points at the knife, “It will keep you safe from all the evil energies. And you can even use it for your defense.”
No cast can work on me, so why is he giving me this?
“Evil energies are much more powerful than any spells because they can be found anywhere, in anything, or anyone.“He answers my unasked question. “You can never be completely protected against them, so that’s why you need to leave this ground because I can’t let anything happen to you.”
“Shift as soon as you step outside this gate and run back to your pack.” He grabs my upper arm as he again pulls me towards the main gate.
“Don’t worry about Elena. I will find her and send her back to you safely.” His moments are taut as if he is anticipating for someone to attack us.
Abruptly, he turns to me and holds my face in his hands. His eyes roam over my eyes like he is memorizing it, and then he leans towards me and kisses me.
“I love you.” Breaking the kiss, he looks into my eyes, “I feel blessed that you are mine.”
I can’t help but smile at the idiot mate of mine. Because of the way he is talking to me, it seems like a goodbye. But he doesn’t know is that I am giving him a few moments to play hero because if he thinks I am someone who is going to run away, then he doesn’t really know to whom he is mated.
“Are you done?” Arching my eyebrow, I throw the knife in the air and watch it flip a few times before perfectly landing back in my hand.
“Ella-”
“Hush!” I cut him off with a wave of my hand, “Oliver, my dear stupid Oliver. If you think I am leaving you and letting you get all the glory, then you are so mistaken, mate.”
“I am not going anywhere.” Standing on my toes, I peck his lips, “I am staying with you. And you know what you are going to do?”
“You are going to follow my orders, and together we are going to kick some asses.” I wink at him as Oliver pinches the bridge of his nose, probably realizing he can’t win against me.
“Since I know you won’t go anywhere, how about for a change you listen to me and we kick some asses?” He gives me a pointed look.
There is confidence in his tone, which I have never heard before, and it seems like I am seeing a different Oliver.
“Do I have to remind you that I am your Alpha?” Raising my eyebrows, I return his look.
An amused smile appears on his lips which he quickly straightens up.
“Do I have to remind you that I am your mate?” He counters me back with a question. “Which means that I am responsible for your safety and well-being.”
“Yes, you are right.” Nodding my head, I shrug, “So according to this, even your safety and well-being is my responsibility. So you look after me, and I will keep you safe since we both are equals.”
“I can’t win against you ever, huh?” Shaking his head, he sighs.
“No.” I smirk, “So if you always want to win, so be on my side, and leave rest to me. Because I will never let you lose.”
“I trust you and will always trust you. And I promise that I will never disappoint you.” His gaze holds so much sincerity and love that for a moment, it makes me question that do I deserve this?
Suddenly, I feel the shift in the air, and when I glance at Oliver, his eyes have turned yellow while the muscles in his arms recoil.
“Stay behind me.” He orders as he turns around and glares ahead.
Narrowing my eyes, I try to see what he is glaring at, but all I see is empty space.
A shiver runs down my spine when my powers begin to rise in me. My palms begin to tingle as I call forward my powers.
A gasp falls from my lips when I am finally able to see what we are facing. I haven’t seen something like this before, because these things are shapeless and faceless, just some kind of shadows, but there is something very sinister about them.
“What are these creatures?” I ask, unable to look away from these things.
“Restless,” Oliver answers but growls when they try to move closer.
I have heard about restless. These creatures are formless and cursed. These are the souls of the people who have chosen the evil path, and even after death, they don’t ever get peace. That’s why they are called restless. Evil doesn't even leave you even after your death.
“Somebody has summoned them.” He states while staring at them.
Oliver’s body buzzes with powers, and I witness the same golden light emitting from his body. However, this time his powers seem much stronger, that I can practically feel them without doing anything.
“Aren’t they harmless?” I ask, feeling fascinated by seeing these creatures. I can feel their confusion and curiosity as sometimes they try to move closer. However, Oliver’s power doesn’t let anyone move forward, forcing them to hover away from us.
“Not all of them. Some of them are still tied to evil, and they are dangerous." He answers without looking in my direction but his hand finds mine.
The dark feelings swirl inside my chest, and suddenly I feel a new sensation running through me.
I can hear a lot of unintelligent nasal murmurs, some sound like chants, while some resemble pleas.
“Capture her.” Burton's voice forces me to turn my head as I find him and other guardians forming a circle around us.
“She is the one behind all of this.” He points his finger at me, while his eyes have a hint of red in them, “She will be punished.”
How dare he?!
Anger surges through me, and rage consumes all my other thoughts. I notice restless are coming closer and hovering near me, but I don't pay much attention to them as my focus is on the bastard in front of him.
Abruptly, a sharp pain shoots in my skull, causing me to scream. The intensity of the pain even affects Blaze as she howls in agony.
Oliver roars furiously, and then a burst of light surrounds us, nearly blinding us.
Fear dances across Burton’s face as he looks at Oliver in shock. The other guardian seems to be in awe because even they can feel Oliver's aura.
Oliver stands in front of me, and his eyes are blazing golden. He looks the same, yet he seems different, like some invisible chains have been broken, and he has been freed.
"Are you challenging me?" Getting back his composure, Burton straightens up and questions Oliver. "Have you forgotten who you are standing against? I am your Superior, and you are nothing in front of me."
His expression hardens when he notices the mark on Oliver's neck. Next, his eyes shift to mine, and venom seeps into his gaze when removing my hair to the side, I proudly display my mate's mark.
"You have repeated the same mistake which your parents have committed." Shaking his head, Burton looks between Oliver and me, "I always had a doubt that you both are hiding something from us, but I have never thought you would be such a fool to go against our rules."
"You both will share the same fate as Andrew and Sienna." He smiles. "Your death will be a lesson to all the others who think they are above my orders."
"Do you really think you can scare us by your lame-as-shit threat?" Shaking my head, I cross my arms over my chest, "Haven't you still figured out yet that I am the one who has your fate in my hand?"
"I have given you more than enough chances to straighten up your ways, but I guess now the time has come when you have to bear the consequences of your actions." Clenching my jaws, I recall the pain Oliver had gone through because of him during all these years.
"I am Superior Guardian." He growls. "I am above everyone!"
As I have said, I am done with his shit, so I do what I have wanted to do since I have found out he didn't deserve being Superior of this clan.
Someone else deserves this title, and today he will get what is rightfully his.
My eyes connect with Oliver, and I find him looking at me in anticipation.
"Oliver." I smile at him, then I turn my cold gaze towards Burton, "Please, release him from his duties."
My lips turn into a smirk as I say the following words.
"Finish him."
