Chapter 18
Ella’s POV
Since Elena is an early riser, so when I woke up, I found myself alone in the room. I remember her telling me that she was going for a run and I should be ready to train with her.
Slightly groaning, I roughly brush my wet hair and let them down to air dry. I just want to spend time with my sister; you know, simply lazying around talking about weird shit kind of spending time. But knowing her, she is as strict as Dad when it comes to training. Maybe once or twice, I can convince dad to spare me from training, but not Elena.
She even gives Dad a hard time in hand-to-hand combat, and I know Dad never goes soft on her. Anyone who has fought with her can vouch that she is the beast.
Picking up my water bottle, I head outside to look for Elena. Finding her was not difficult at all, as she is very much enjoying the sun while lying on the grass in her purple sports bra and black workout leggings.
She loves basking in the sun. She has a beautiful tan to her skin because of the amount of time she spends outdoors.
Before I can call, I watch Ambrose marching towards her with a murderous look. Already looking forward to the much-needed entertainment, I slowly stroll in their direction.
“What are you doing?” He glares at her as he crosses his arms, trying to look intimidating. The keyword is trying. Because if you Elena, you would know that nothing... simply nothing scares her. For once, you can scare me, but not her.
“Relaxing myself after my run.” She stretches her body then again slumps with a lazy smile, not even opening her eyes to acknowledge him.
Ambrose’s face turns red in anger as he clenches his teeth. He doesn’t know my sister enjoys annoying people whom she doesn’t like. And he is definitely not on a good list of Whitmore sisters. So the more he gets annoyed, the more she will irritate him.
“You are distracting everyone.” He continues to stare at her angrily as he motions with his hand towards the training ground.
Looking in that direction, my eyebrows shoot up then I narrow my eyes at the group of some novices who are busy ogling at Elena rather than focusing on their training.
Finally, opening her eyes, she looks at the group with slightly raised eyebrows as if she has just noticed them. She gives them a sweet smile as she gets on her feet, then turns her attention to Ambrose.
“What kind of pathetic training you are giving them, that they are easily distracted by my divine beauty?” She waves her hand in front of her body with a smirk.
Have I ever mentioned that my sister doesn’t have a humble bone in her body? If not, then now I did.
She is not a self-obsessed person, but she can be mean when it comes to showing others their place if they mess with her. At the same time, she is the most confident person I have ever known. She accepts her flaws, but she owns her qualities.
“Listen, you whore-”
Quickly, before Elena’s anger get the best of her, and we witness a charcoaled Ambrose, I rush to her.
“Tsk tsk...such a filthy mouth you have.” She cuts him off while shaking her head, “I have a better title for you. So from now onwards, the world will know you as Turd Ambrose.”
Ambrose’s body shakes in anger as he looks like he is ready to explode.
“I don’t fight weak females like you, who show off their body to lure males into their trap. Otherwise, I would have shown you what happens if someone insults me.” He grits his teeth.
Do I have to teach him a lesson again?
“Weak? Like seriously?” Tilting her head slightly to the side, she scoffs, looking at him pointedly up and down. “You are the one who is living with a weakness hanging between your legs, and you call us female weak.”
“You bitch.” He points his finger at her while his eyes flash in anger.
“Not just a bitch.” She shrugs with a nonchalant smile, “I am a Queen bitch. Address me properly, Turd.” She smirks.
“Bloody mutts.” He spits while looking at us with venom-filled eyes.
“What the fuck did you just say?!” Elena growls as her skin starts to turn darker.
She can’t tolerate any words against us. She will once forgive you for messing with her but breathe in a wrong way in our direction; she will not think once before finishing you off.
“Enough!” I raise my voice to get their attention, “You go back to your training and stay away from my sister.” I snap my fingers at Ambrose and point towards the training ground.
Ambrose opens his mouth to say something but snaps it shut.
Then turning around, I glare at Elena, who is trying hard to reign her anger, “And you will come with me.”
After a glaring match between him and Elena, he walks away.
“Elena, you can’t just go around and piss off people, especially when we are on their territory.” I look at her sternly.
Even though I don’t like Ambrose or other guardians, I can’t let her mess with them because I don’t want to get her into any trouble.
Since mom and dad are not here, it is my responsibility to ensure she doesn’t get into any trouble. I am aware that she can handle herself, but I can’t stop myself from looking after her.
I can see that she is not happy with me, but she doesn’t say anything, as she keeps her eyes lowered.
She never argues with me, and now when I think of it... she never argues with anyone, be it mom or dad, grandpa or grandma, or anyone in the family or pack. Especially whenever mom or dad or even I tell her anything, she just accepts it.
She quietly accepts punishment which mom gives her for the havoc she often creates. Although this never stops her from staying out of trouble, she does what she likes. And unfortunately, my sister likes trouble.
Sighing, I wrap my arm around her stiff shoulders and softly look at her.
“Wanna kick my ass in training and let out some of your anger?” I lightly nudge her playfully, trying to get a smile from her, and I succeed when a hint of a smile appears on her face. But instantly, my heart drops when I realize how forced it is.
Her eyes are pitch black, while her hands are curled on her sides. It is not easy for her to deal with her emotions when she is constantly on edge. Only once has she voiced out her vulnerability to me when she said she knows one day she will lose herself to her craziness.
Sometimes, I feel like a failure when it comes to her because I know she struggles with her emotions, but I can’t help her. Mom tells her to trust herself and completely accept herself because this will make things easier for her. But she is still afraid of herself, and somewhere I can understand her fear because I have seen what our powers are capable of doing.
“We’ll train later.” She lets out a deep breath, and removing the hair tie from around her wrist, she gathers her hair and ties them up, “I just need to be alone, so I am going on a run again.”
Giving me another smile, which seems less forced, she takes off towards the path leading to the woods.
She needs some time to cool it off, but it doesn’t mean that I am happy for letting her go alone. Even though I want to follow her, but I stop myself from doing so, giving her some space that she needs at this moment.
Blaze howls in my mind sensing we have hurt our sister, but even she knows I am just looking out for her. I just hope I find a way to help Elena before she completely loses herself.
“You smell different.” Elena makes a face while looking at me, “Normally, you stink after every practice. But now, apart from smelling like garbage, there is something different about your scent.”
Scowling at her, I drag the hand towel across my forehead, wiping the sweat. Elena returned after an hour, and then straightaway, she demanded to train as she got antsy.
Training helps her calm herself, and she mostly prefers training with dad or me when she is dealing with her anger. Because this helps her to control her rage as there is no way she could hurt us.
“You are the one who is smelling like a pig.” I throw my towel at her face, which she catches singlehandedly while drinking water.
“No, I am serious.” Her face turns serious as she narrows her eyes at me, but there is an unfocused look on her face.
Something shifts in her expression, instantly alerting me.
“Your scent is marked, Ella.” Her shocked eyes meet mine.
Instantly, my hand moves to my neck where I can still remember Oliver’s touch. But then, the next moment, rage engulfs me because I realize this might be his plan to get back at me for binding his wolf to me.
How could he fall to this level that he decided to manipulate me and my feelings? For every werewolf, mate bond is sacred, and he just tried to fake that with me. I want to know why he did this because if he had been my mate, I would have already sensed that.
But I haven’t felt that pull when I am with him, apart from once. I don’t know whatever I saw last night was a dream or something else, but that was the only time I felt the pull.
Hurt flares in my heart along with disappointment because he shouldn’t have done that.
Tears of anger and hurt spring in my eyes as I take off to find Oliver.
