Chapter 16
Ella’s POV
Prune storms from there, while some guardians choose to follow him and some remain in their position.
Turning my head towards Emerson’s wolf, I find him shaking his head as if Emerson is trying to take back control. He howls and crouches down, and some guardians are quick to close the circle around him.
Emerson’s wolf trembles feverously as he begins to shift. Abruptly, someone pushes me out of the way and drags me away from there.
Turning around, I glare at Ambrose, who is holding my upper arm. He looks at me and shakes his head at me, then leaving me; he joins the rest of the guardians around Emerson's wolf.
An agonizing howl pierces my ears which turns into a groan when Emerson shifts back.
Before I realize what is happening, I am lifted off the ground as Emerson holds me by my neck. Gasping, I try to claw his hand, but he tightens his hold, constricting my windpipe. Black dots begin to appear in front of me as barely any oxygen reaches my lungs.
Shock overtakes my senses as I look at him in disbelief.
He looks menacing as he brings his face near to mine.
"You shouldn't have done that." His voice is cold and emotionless. "You will regret crossing your path with me."
He carelessly throws me on the ground and walks away without even looking in my direction.
Placing my hand on my throat, I breathe hard, trying to fill my lungs with oxygen. Anger surges through me as I get back on my feet.
"Emerson!" My voice roars, causing him and other guardians to stop and turn in my direction.
My entire body shakes in anger as my eyes zero on Emerson.
Eliminating the distance, I stand in front of him, looking straight into his eyes.
"I own your fucking ass, Emerson. You can't do shit about it." My lips tilt into a cruel smile, "Do your worse, but remember one thing, where you will end, I will begin from there." Tilting my head slightly to the side, I glance at him challengingly.
"You don't know what you are getting yourself into." His voice drops to a threatening tone.
Smirking at him, I stand on my toes and kiss his cheek. Instantly, his body goes so still, I wonder if he is even breathing.
"You don't know who you are facing, Emerson. I am not someone who believes in playing fair, because I know in this world no one is fair. I only believe in getting what I want, and I don't care whether it is by hook or crook." My smirk deepens when I sense him struggling with his wolf, "Since there was a time when you were a friend, so for the old-time sakes, I should warn you that I make my enemies' life worst than death. So be very careful what you wish for." I whisper in his ear, my voice dripping with sweetness and venom.
Stepping away from him, I find his hands curled into tight fists on his sides while his eyes are impassive. The ticking in his jaw is the only indication of the anger he is trying to suppress.
Giving him a flying kiss to add more to his annoyance, I walk towards Brody and Steven, who are held back by the guardians.
Yanking his arms free from guardians' hold, Steven wraps his arm around my shoulder while glaring at Emerson and other guardians. At the same time, Brody stands protective beside me.
Something flashes through Emerson's gaze as he looks at us, but then his cold expression returns.
Steven gently squeezes my shoulder to shift my attention away from Emerson and leads me away from him.
Looking over my shoulder, I find him still standing in the same spot while his eyes remain on me.
Brody is saying something, but my mind is solely focused on Emerson. I can't still believe that he attacked me.How can a person who once protected your life attack you?
There is something that I am not getting, and I will not rest until I don't find the truth. However, I will not be the first one to strike; I will let Emerson do whatever he wishes to do.But, each attack will be answered because I don't back down from any fight.
"Ella, you should return to our pack." Steven speaks as he takes a seat beside me on the stairs, "I know how you feel about leaving us here, but you can't put yourself in danger." He looks at me while I keep staring at the grass in front of us.
Currently, all three of us are sitting in front of the outdoor training ground. These guardians have indoor and outdoor training grounds. I guess that they train in both their wolf and human at the outdoor ground, and indoor is only reserved for hand-to-hand combat and weapons.
"None of the guardians tried to hurt anyone of us. In fact, not all of them are bad. We don't feel threatened or worried. Although none of us remember what happens in the interrogation, I don't feel they want to hurt us." He takes a deep breath and releases, "They are just trying to find something, or there is another reason behind their secretive behavior."
"He is right." Brody nods his head, looking in deep concentration, "They are training us as if they want to strengthen us. Maybe they want something from us. That's why they are preparing us."
He does have a point. However, before I can think more about this, a familiar warmth warms my chest. I hear the sound of a car approaching towards the campus gate.
The connection, which I haven't felt in days, finally fills the void inside my chest.
My heart races in anticipation as my eyes are glued to the black SUV which passes through the gate, slowly nearing us.
The car stops just in front of us, and a smile breaks onto my face when my eyes connect with a similar pair of eyes as soon as she steps outside the driver's seat of the car.
"Elena!" I laugh while running towards her and engulfing her in a tight hug.
Forgetting all my earlier anger and hurt.
She laughs quietly and returns the hug with the same enthusiasm while I can sense the feeling of relief through our bond.
Blaze howls in contentment, feeling pleased to meet our sister. Elena greets her through our mindlink, as she can sense her eagerness to connect with her.
"I will burn you if you go anywhere without taking me with you." Pulling back from the hug, she looks at me, "I felt like someone tore me in half when I felt severing of our bond." Moisture lines in her eyes, making my eyes wet too.
"I am sorry, I won't ever leave you again like that." Holding her face in my hands, I smile at her.
"Woah, eye candies." Stepping back from me, she looks around as I have just now realized the guardians have gathered around us.
The trainee guardians gaze at Elena with a little too much interest much to my dismay. She smirks at them, enjoying their attention.
"What are you doing here?" I ask, lightly shaking her hand to gain back her attention.
"Mom asked me to bring your stuff to you." She looks at me, and her smirk turns into a genuine smile, "Mom and dad can't visit guardian's territory as first they need to have a meeting with the other elders and then get written permission from the Guardian Superior and some other bullshit." She shrugs with a roll of an eye.
"But since I don't have any such obligations, so here I am." She smirks and gives a dramatic bow.
I smile knowingly at her. This is not the only reason why mom and dad have send her here. They know what she is capable of doing, and when we both are together then we are next to unbeatable.
“You are not allowed to stay on our ground.” Ambrose marches towards Elena, “You don’t have permission from us.”
What the hell is his problem?
A bored look settles on her face as she glances at Ambrose.
"I don’t need anyone’s permission to meet my sister.” Her tone is calm... too calm, but I can't miss the menacing look in her eyes.
Guardians make a way when Emerson approaches us. He looks at Elena, and then his gaze travels to me. But ignoring him, I focus back on Elena.
“Alpha Whitmore has cleared your arrival with us, and you are welcome to stay here,” Emerson speaks to Elena and then gives a pointed look to an annoyed Ambrose.
Elena keeps looking at Emerson with a strange curiosity while his face is free of any expression.
“Thank you.” Elena gives him a curt nod with a smirk while her eyes are still pitch black, indicating her other side is just on the surface.
Turning around, she walks back to the car and takes out a bag from the passenger seat. She looks at Ambrose’s reflection in the window, and her eyes slightly narrow.
At the same time, Ambrose yelps and curses loudly as his pants catch fire. He pats his pants with his bare hands to put off the fire and then looks surprised when suddenly the fire was out as if it wasn’t there.
Shaking my head, I look heavenward, then I arch an eyebrow at Elena. She flicks her hair over her shoulder with a nonchalant shrug while a mischievous glint dances in her eyes.
Abruptly, my gaze moves to Emerson to find him glancing at Elena with a hint of amusement in his eyes when no one is noticing him. However, when he sees me watching him abruptly, all emotions wipe from his face, and an impassive expression replaces them.
