Chapter 42
We got to the hospital and it turned out that we arrived before the ambulance because Chase had taken a shorter route. Nick was holding my hands tightly, he was still frightened by what he had experienced earlier and I just wish I could make him forget about what he saw.
The ambulance came shortly afterwards and I watched how they wheeled my father in immediately, I stopped Leni to ask what was happening but tears were still built up in her eyes and I could tell that she had been crying ever since we left the scene.
I hugged her to assure her that my father would be fine, we all would be fine eventually and she hugged me back.
She wiped the tears from her eyes and tried to smile to me but I could see a thousand pain hidden behind that smile.
We walked in the hospital and Chase did the necessary paperwork that was needed so they would attend to my Dad better and faster.
I watched how doctors surrounded him from the small circle window that was on the door and I also prayed that nothing happens to my father.
I realized that Nick must've been hungry so I left him with Chase to go look for something for him to eat.
I left their midst and it didn't take me long to see some biscuits and juice boxes, I came back to the floor I had left them on and I immediately noticed the change of atmosphere.
“Go in” Leni said and collected the biscuits to feed Nick.
My heart fell at the sound of what she had and I gulped down the saliva in my mouth as I walked in.
My heart broke at the sight of what I saw immediately and my legs began to shake making it hard for me to keep my balance I was gone for less than ten minutes and I came back to find out that my father was...dead?
This shouldn't be happening to me, I had lost my mum and promised myself that I wouldn't lose my father but this time I had lost him for good.

The atmosphere seemed tensed and everyone was not in a mood to talk, I had somehow convinced Chase that it wasn't his fault and he shouldn't blame himself even though it actually wasn't his fault.
Nick moved around the house wondering why everyone was sad and he was trying to cheer everyone up by playing games with us.
“Are you ready?"Chase asked and I nodded, do did Leni.
We walked into the car dressed in all black trying to make it to the funeral, the ride had been silent throughout, Leni was trying not to cry again and so was I.
We finally got to the cemetery and the priest was waiting for our arrival already, since it was a small family and we didn't really know a lot of people we were just few present for the funeral.
My Dad's brother was able to make it from overseas and I was grateful for that, even though he hadn't been the supporting type of person I was still glad that a family member could make it to the wedding.
The priest started the event and everyone present was quiet even Nick, Nick had been quiet the whole time we were at the cemetery and it made it seem like he understood what was going on.
Everyone present was asked to give a speech about how my father had lived his life on Earth and the good things he had done.
As the only child of my father I went there first and poured out my entire feelings and emotions, the thought of him made me cry and Chase had to support me by wrapping his hands around me.
Leni said her speech next and I wasn't really surprised at how fast they had bonded but I was actually surprised that my father had helped her and her family when they were running in big debts but she never told me.
My father's brother Richard came to say some good things about my father and even though i wasn't expecting much from him since he never really bonded with my Dad, I was glad he had something to talk about.
Then it was Chase, the only one left, I had imagined that Chase's speech won't be something new or captivating but this was the first time ever that I would hear Chase talking so good about something, I had thought that his speech would be the shortest and maybe he would rush it but he took the time to talk about all of the things he had done with my father and about all of the good things my father had done to him.
His speech made me emotional and I started to cry, Nick noticed that I was crying so he came to hug me tight as he spread his tiny arms around my legs and I had to clean the tears from my eyes.
I lifted him up and he chuckled, showing off his cute dimple and I smiled, this time it was genuine.
I hugged my baby boy and Chase rubbed his hands on my back patting me and reassuring me that he would remain by my side for eternity.
The funeral was over and my father’s coffin was dug six feet into the Earth's soil, I heavily sighed as they covered the coffin with sand. We came from the dust and we will all someday return to the dust.
I greeted my uncle goodbye as he got back into his car in order to not miss his flight.
We also entered the car and Chase drove us, this time the atmosphere wasn't as sad as before but rather happier and I was glad. I was also happy because I knew my fa ther is better off in heaven with my mother, I'l join them soon but that wouldn’ be anytime near.
