Chapter 8
“I don’t know him.”
“She does.”
I had just finished speaking when Chris, who had hurried over from elsewhere, also spoke up. His whole face fell when he heard me say I didn’t know him.
“Ally, you know Mr. Walker? I had no idea.”
I replied to Samantha, “I’ve met him a few times, but we’re not close.”
That wasn’t a lie. It had been hard to see Chris since we got married.
He spent all his time with Chloe and Amanda.
Chris looked upset and stubbornly said, “Ally is my wife.”
Samantha raised an eyebrow.
I stood my ground.
“Not for much longer.“,
Chris didn’t get angry; he tried to grab my hand, but I avoided it,
“Ally, no matter how long you are mad, I won’t divorce you,” he declared.
I scoffed and didn’t want to be entangled with him any longer.
In the five years we were married, he never declared my status in front of others.
Out of fear that Chris would get angry, I also never brought it up with anyone.
Our friends knew I was married, but none knew to whom.
I used to feel aggrieved, but now, it seemed better that they didn’t know.
It would make things easier down the road.
Knowing my temper and character, Samantha understood there were things I wouldn’t talk about, no matter what. She just took my arm and led me towards our seats.
Chloe arrived quite late.
She was dressed in a turquoise evening gown; her figure was elegantly accentuated.
Chris announced that he would share a critical piece of news with the world tonight.
As a leading company, the Walker Group’s announcement had already attracted many media outlets to the venue. Chloe clearly did not expect to see me there, her tone one of surprise and displeasure.
“Ashley, what are you doing here?”
I flashed her a radiant smile.
“I’m here to be the leading lady, of course.”
I continued, “You know Chris is going to announce something big today, right? Let me tell you secretly, it’s about me.” Chloe refused to believe it.
“Impossible! Chris would never care about you!
“Ashley, don’t try to fool me. I advise you to back off wisely. He can only be mine, and I will be the lady of the Walker Group
I pulled out the recording from that night. “I will announce to everyone there that you are my, Chris’s wife.” Chloe’s eyes widened in disbelief, and she pulled me into the restroom.

First, she smashed my phone to make sure no one else was inside. Then she turned toward me with a fierce look. “Ashley, I advise you to leave now, or don’t blame me for being rude!”
I suppressed a smile, pretending to be scared.
“What are you going to do? Chris is right outside, you wouldn’t dare.”
