Chapter Divorcing 424
Chapter 424 Give Him a Chance?
Michael stared at her with concern and confusion. "He was just trying to harass you!"
"I didn't say anything, so what does it have to do with you? Just mind your own business!"
Chloe retorted and moved to help the man in the plaid shirt back into the private room. She secretively returned the phone to his pocket.
"Chloe, are you yelling at me because of this man?"
Chloe glanced at Michael helplessly. "You're not a child anymore. Can you stop being so childish?"
The noise outside grew louder, so James opened the door of the private room and stepped out.
The man in the plaid shirt contorted his face in pain and insisted on going to the hospital for a check-up, threatening to sue Michael for malicious injury.
With no other choice, James and Chloe were forced to accompany the man to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Michael's hand had struck a nearby glass cabinet, shattering it and causing his hand to bleed profusely.
Upon seeing the injury, Ethan was alarmed. "Mr. Shawn, your hand is bleeding!"
Michael fixed his gaze on Chloe's retreating figure and shook his head irritably. "It's just a minor injury. Not a big deal," he muttered.
Ethan said, "Mr. Shawn, I think you'd better go to the hospital for bandaging."
Michael eventually agreed to go to the hospital due to Chloe's presence.
While the doctor bandaged Michael's hand, the man in the plaid shirt sat nearby, his earlier drunkenness now replaced by sobriety. Realizing the gravity of his situation after offending Michael, he was filled with dread.
Michael spoke coldly, "If you continue to harass her, next time I won't just send you to the hospital."
The man's shoulders visibly shrank in fear.
"Sir, you can't threaten the patient, or I'll call the police!"
The nurse sternly stared at Michael.
Michael was momentarily speechless.
Outside the door, James and Chloe stood together. Their expressions were grim.
"The software was discreetly installed, and its presence remained undetected, suggesting that all should be well." Chloe reassured James.
It was a stroke of luck that Chloe was spotted by Michael upon her return, for had she not been, the unfinished task would have ignited her fury. "Why would he suddenly act like that? What did that man in the plaid shirt do to you?"
James was genuinely curious about Michael's uncharacteristic outburst.
"Not a single finger has touched me yet," Chloe replied.
Her voice was laced with frustration and a hint of choked emotion.
James, struggling to suppress his laughter, shook his shoulders.
Chloe, in response, punched him lightly.
"It's evident that Michael cares about you a lot. Even after the divorce, he still cares about you so much. Do you regret it?" James probed.
Chloe lowered her eyes. "There's no point in regretting," she murmured.
She genuinely couldn't fathom why Michael persistently lingered in her life.
He even crossed paths with her during meals and visits to exhibitions.
It seemed they couldn't escape each other.
"Why don't you give him another chance? I think he's serious about it," James suggested.
Chloe shot him a frosty glance. "If you have nothing meaningful to say, silence is golden."
"And what of your child? Will you let me bear the blame indefinitely?"
Though James didn't mind the idea of more godchildren, the prospect of more biological sons was another matter.
"You may aspire to be his father, but I do not consent," Chloe asserted.
Choosing a stepfather for her son was a decision she would not take lightly.
The fact that James had a history of morphine addiction alone was a dealbreaker.
The man in the plaid shirt and Michael left the ward almost simultaneously.
"Are you okay?" James asked with the weight of a superior's concern for his subordinate.
"I'm quite alright. Thank you for your concern, Mr. Dale. Ms. Nelson, I had too much to drink earlier and lost control of my actions. Please forgive me," the man apologized.
He maintained a respectful distance from Chloe.
Otherwise, Michael would cast a menacing glare at him.
He offered Chloe a bow before swiftly retreating.
Observing his demeanor, Chloe understood the silent threat Michael imposed upon him.
Yet, with their plan successfully executed, she felt a sense of relief and chose not to dwell on the incident further.
"Shall we depart? May I escort you home?"
James almost deliberately suggested sending Chloe home in front of Michael.
"Chloe, you can't go with him!"
Michael's hand was still wrapped in gauze, which contrasted starkly with his otherwise imposing demeanor.
"Who I choose to leave with is none of your concern."
Chloe was indifferent as she looked at Michael.
