After Divorcing my Captain Husband (Chloe and Michael)

Chapter Divorcing 422

Chapter 422 Dinner Party

James furrowed his brow slightly as he inquired, "Who?"

Vicky darted a glance at Chloe, feeling certain that James would fire Chloe.

"It's her, the one who hardly ever shows up for work. Today, she finally deigns to grace us with her presence, only to indulge in games. What purpose does such a person serve in the company?" James followed Vicky's accusing finger, which was pointed directly at Chloe's chest.

"Chloe?"

"Yes. Who else could it be?"

James gently but firmly pulled Vicky away from him. "She can play as she pleases. I permit her to not come to work."

Not only Vicky but the entire Security Department was left stunned.

"James, why?"

Vicky was unconvinced. She couldn't fathom what was so exceptional about Chloe.

"You're not from the Security Department. What business do you have here during working hours?"

Vicky had accused others of slacking, yet she was also neglecting her duties.

Vicky was silenced by these words and fixed her gaze on James.

"No use looking at me. If you're discontent with your current role, I'll inform your father tomorrow that it might be best for you to return to your home."

James was relieved, thinking he might finally have a reason to remove Vicky from Bright Moon International.

"You want to expel me for the sake of such a woman?"

Vicky pointed at herself in disbelief and questioned James loudly.

James was a man who spoke few words and had straightforward actions.

Experiencing the disciplined environment in the army, he found Vicky's shrill tone grating.

"Stop yelling. What do you mean that I expel you for her? You're uncommitted to your work and deliberately ostracize your colleagues. How have I wronged you? Vicky, you'd best reassess your position." He warned Vicky not to abuse the relationship between their families to become an accomplice to wrongdoers within the company.

Vicky's eyes welled up with tears.

She had never been publicly rebuked before.

"James, I hate you!"

With that, she turned and fled as swiftly as the wind.

James made no move to pursue her, instead breathing a sigh of relief.

He addressed all the employees in the Security Department. "This is Chloe Nelson. I haven't formally introduced her to you before. From today on, she will be the head of the security department. You will all report to her."

The company's system had been infected with a virus before, and the employees of the Security Department had all collaborated with Chloe on the programming.

Thus, they knew her capabilities well.

It wasn't surprising that Chloe was now being appointed as their supervisor.

"The company will host a dinner party tonight. It's a celebration for Chloe and a company gathering. It's at 7 p.m. at Azurland Restaurant. All who are free should attend." James had deliberated long in his office.

The only way for Chloe to interact with colleagues in the Planning Department without suspicion was through a dinner party.

Since they were from different departments, he could only organize a company-wide dinner.

When others heard "Azurland Restaurant," their eyes sparkled.

It was a top-tier restaurant known for its seafood and exquisite cuisine. Normally, they would hesitate even to stand at its threshold. "Thank you, Mr. Dale!"

They chorused and beamed with joy.

Only Chloe regarded James with a complex expression.

She thought, "He had pondered for so long and devised this plan?"

As the workday finally drew to a close, Chloe felt her backside sore from sitting.

She began to appreciate her flexible work schedule, no longer having to adhere to the nine-to-five grind.

"Chloe, let's go together!"

The young woman named Molly, who had conversed with Chloe earlier, donned her bag and cast a friendly glance at Chloe. "You're amazing. You resolved the crisis in just a few moves. Unlike me, I'm still an intern and uncertain if I'll secure a permanent position."

On the way to Azurland Restaurant, Molly continued to chat with Chloe.

Chloe mostly listened quietly and wore a faint smile, speaking only occasionally.

Bright Moon International boasted a large staff, so James had reserved all the private rooms at Azurland Restaurant.

A large private room was specifically arranged for the employees of the Security Department and the Planning Department to sit together.

As everyone entered and saw James, they were a bit taken aback.

"Mr. Dale, will you be joining us?"

James grinned mischievously, "Well, I'm afraid you guys might bully our new colleague."

Standing among the crowd, Chloe rolled her eyes at his cheeky remark.

But the other colleagues exchanged knowing looks.

Chloe sat down next to James and poured him some water, whispering, "Who is it?"
