Chapter Divorcing 417
Chapter 417 Too Ordinary
Yet, if Chloe hadn't hidden the truth, she might not have secured custody of her child.
She placed a hand on her belly, whispering, "Baby, you won't blame your mother, will you?"
All she desired was for her child to remain by her side.
As the sky darkened, Chloe idly kicked at the sand.
"Lovely lady, are you alone? A storm's brewing; let us escort you home."
A whistle pierced the air, startling Chloe. Turning, she saw two men in disheveled clothes with unkempt beards. Their expressions were lascivious when they winked at her suggestively. Receiving no answer from Chloe, one of them spoke up, "Lady, are you unhappy? There's a bar nearby. Let's go over and have a drink?"
Chloe knew her safest bet was to leave swiftly.
She turned to go, but the men directly touched her shoulders.
"Don't be in such a hurry..."
With a resounding "bang," Chloe spun around to see Quinn delivering a single punch that floored the two men.
He frowned, his foot delivering hard kicks to the prone figures.
"Stop kicking. It hurts..."
The skinny men, realizing their vulnerability, would never have approached had Chloe not been alone.
Now, faced with Quinn, they were terrified.
"Get out of here now!"
Their response was a hasty crawl and roll, disappearing quickly from Chloe's sight.
"How did you..."
Chloe was surprised because she had asked Quinn to return home earlier.
At that moment, the first drops of rain began to fall. Quinn retrieved a transparent umbrella from where it had fallen and held it over her head.
The sound of waves crashing against the rocks filled the air around them.
Chloe gazed at Quinn standing before her, a slight stirring in her heart.
"I feared for your safety, so I shadowed you. Please, don't be upset. Hold the umbrella; I can wait behind."
Chloe remained silent.
The raindrops grew larger, dotting his shoulders and hair.
She took the umbrella, tilting it toward him. "Let's return together."
Under his attentive care, she felt a renewed sense of peace.
When they were at Urban Lane, Jessica was enjoying a spicy chicken wing.
She had arrived after her classes, finding the place empty.
Upon seeing Chloe and Quinn enter, she eagerly invited them. "You're back! Care to join me for a bite? I've ordered plenty."
"Sure!" Chloe responded.
She took a seat and picked up a chicken wing.
When she was with Michael, such indulgences were rare.
Now that she had divorced, she relished the freedom to eat as she pleased.
After the meal, Quinn handed Chloe a clean towel, suggesting, "Go shower; you've been caught in the rain."
Chloe clapped her hands clean and headed towards the bathroom, appearing quite normal.
Yet, Jessica sensed something amiss.
She felt that Chloe was a bit too ordinary.
"Is Chloe alright?"
"She's fine."
Soaking in warm water, Chloe felt her body relax.
Stepping out of the bathroom and towel-drying her hair, she heard thunder outside.
If seen from a distance, one might mistake it for a divine tribulation.
"Isn't Candy coming here today?"
Jessica inquired, standing by the balcony door.
Chloe retrieved her phone, dialing Candy to inquire about her conversation with Wesley.
"Hello?" Candy answered.
Chloe asked, "Candy, have you returned to Glory Villa?"
"What?...Are you being annoying..."
Chloe stared at her abruptly disconnected phone and felt a flicker of unease.
The sound just now seemed off. What had happened?
