Chapter Divorcing 396
Chapter 396 Wendy's Safe
*****
Tiffany had been discharged for a few days. Today, Lucy went to tell her about Wendy's incident.
Tiffany's eyes immediately filled with joy.
"Really? Do you know what happened?"
Lucy shook her head. "How would I know? If I asked too much, it would raise suspicion."
Tiffany thought for a moment. She then took out her phone and said, "Last time I went to Wendy's hospital, I got a contact of a caregiver." "Why did you add a caregiver?"
"Chloe stops us from going in, but she can't stop the caregiver. Having someone inside the hospital makes things much easier."
Tiffany immediately called the caregiver.
Most caregivers in the hospital were from rural areas.
Moreover, that caregiver wasn't taking care of Wendy. With a bit of money, getting into the hospital wouldn't be a problem.
At the hospital, when Michael arrived, Wendy was just being wheeled out of the operating room.
Chloe, with red eyes, rushed up. "Doctor, how is my mom?"
"The patient is stable for now, but she must not be agitated again. If today's situation repeats, we might not be able to save her." The doctor's words were very clear.
Chloe felt a wave of guilt and started crying again.
If she had paid more attention to Wendy, she wouldn't have been agitated by Madeline and the others.
Michael held her in his arms. He thanked the doctor and helped push Wendy back to her room.
He stayed by Wendy's bedside, helping with anything she needed.
When Wendy woke up and saw Chloe and Michael by her bedside, she knew she had troubled them again. She moved her fingers, and Chloe immediately noticed. "Mom, you're awake. Are you feeling any discomfort?" Wendy glanced at Michael and said, somewhat embarrassed, "Michael, I want to talk to Chloe alone." Michael sensibly stepped out, leaving just them in the room.
"Chloe, I'm sorry for troubling you."
"Mom, you didn't. It's not a bother!"
Chloe said, tearing up again.
"Chloe, my illness can't be cured."
Wendy felt very sad herself. Her illness came and went. The last time she had an episode, she even hurt Chloe.
Every time she regained consciousness, she felt very guilty.
Chloe shook her head continuously. "Mom, it's okay. You're much better now. The doctor said we can take you out for a walk in a few days. You'll get better!" Chloe held Wendy's hand, her voice choked with emotion.
"Today, Madeline told me that you hit Maya. She said she's taking Maya for an injury check and wants compensation. I just got so angry..." Wendy blamed herself a lot.
Why get angry over those words? In the end, it only tormented Chloe.
"Mom, let's not bother with them. If she wants to get an injury check, let her. I'm not afraid of them."
Wendy felt very uncomfortable seeing Chloe's swollen eyes.
She had been struggling with this illness for so many years, tormenting Chloe. Just her medical expenses alone were a huge burden every month. Although she lived in the hospital without worries about food and clothing, she knew Chloe was under pressure outside.
Weakly raising her hand, she said, "Get Michael for me. I want to talk to him."
Chloe was a bit reluctant. "Mom, you can just tell me whatever it is."
"He's your husband. Of course, I need to talk to him. I need to see if he's treating you well."
Chloe couldn't argue with Wendy, so she went out to get Michael.
"My mom wants to talk to you. Just agree with whatever she says and don't take it to heart. Thank you."
Michael nodded. He didn't actually treat this as a chore to be brushed off.
He was quite happy that Wendy wanted to talk to him.
"Michael, you and Chloe have been married for three years, right?"
"Yes."
Wendy sighed slightly. "Chloe takes after me. Sometimes, she's a bit stubborn. Please bear with her." "Chloe is my wife. This is what I should do."
Michael sat on the chair next to her.
"Michael, when you and Chloe got married, it was too rushed. I never asked you, do you truly love Chloe?"
