Chapter Divorcing 357
Chapter 357 Comes for Free
Owen had been raising money after he promised to help Lucy pay back yesterday.
All of his money combined totaled about 20 million dollars, and he was still over 20 million dollars short.
Lucy suggested he borrow from his friends, but Owen's proud nature wouldn't allow him to do that.
He didn't even tell his family, so how could he go to his friends for money?
So he couldn't come up with the remaining 26.05 million dollars.
"Lucy, do you have any money left?"
Lucy cried and said, "Owen, I paid my mother's debts with all the money I had. I really don't have any money left at all."
"Don't you cry. I'll think of something else!"
Owen scratched his head somewhat helplessly.
Lucy thought of something. "Owen, don't you have another house on the north side of the city?"
"That house..."
Owen was a little hesitant.
Lucy grabbed his hand and said with red eyes, "Owen, I know that house is very important to you. But if you sell it now, you can still buy it back later. I promise you, I'll find a way to help you buy the house back when we finish paying off this money. Okay?"
Owen was a little touched to see Lucy so concerned for him.
"Lucy, I don't need you to help me buy the house. The time Michael gave was only one day. That's just too tight!"
Hearing him complain about Michael, Lucy subconsciously spoke up for Michael.
"It's not really Michael's fault. It was Chloe who was angry. Michael had no choice. Don't you blame him."
Owen frowned tightly and didn't reply to her.
"I'd better go sell the house first."
In the evening, Chloe finally received the money.
The 46.05 million dollars wasn't a penny less.
A text message was sent to her cell phone immediately following the receipt of the money.
[The money has been paid back. I hope you won't pester Lucy again!]
It was an unfamiliar number, but Chloe knew who it was.
She just thought, "He's such a nut.
Regardless of how this money came about, I got my money back anyway."
But something happened that night.
Michael was back from Shawn Heavy Industries. The two of them were sitting in the dining room eating when the sound of cursing came through the door. Chloe hadn't intended to take it personally.
But the people outside kept shouting. Michael frowned. "Emma, go out and tell the people outside to be quiet!"
He thought, "This is a high-class villa area. Don't those people even have that much courtesy?"
Emma opened the door and tried to convey Michael's words.
But before she could say anything, the people outside rushed in.
Chloe looked over and realized it was Owen's parents.
She'd met them once when she married Michael.
"Mr. Shawn, what did Owen ever do to offend you that you want us dead? We know Owen's nature. He would never owe that much money!"
"Yes. Even if he owed you money, you can tell us, and we'll find a way to pay it back. How could you let him sell that house in the north of the city?"
They talked a lot. Michael finally got it.
"Mr. Smith, Ms. Morgan, it's not what you think. That money is..."
"Mr. Shawn, Owen has known you since college. Don't you understand what kind of person he is? You've been friends for so many years, and the Shawn family doesn't lack those tens of millions of dollars. Why do you have to limit the deadline so tightly? Aren't you forcing him to sell his house?"
"Mr. Smith, Owen and I do..."
Chloe sat in a dining chair. Listening to Owen's parents, she thought it was funny.
"He signed the IOU himself. What's it to us what method he used to raise the money?
"The Shawn family really doesn't lack for that kind of money. But doesn't this money need to be paid back? Whose money comes for free?"
