Chapter 35: The Warning

Chloe had no intention of getting tangled up with Cathy. But when Cathy started spewing nastiness, Chloe just crossed her arms and snapped back. Cathy never expected Chloe to talk back.

Cathy paused for a moment, then sneered, "Elder? You think you're an elder? You might fool others, but how can you even fool yourself?"

"If it weren't for Grandpa's old age, you'd never have made it into the Shawn family!"

Cathy thought, "Michael totally hates me. He can't even stand to look at me."

She's usually so timid, but now she's actually daring to challenge

Cathy snapped.

Before Chloe could say a word, Candy stepped right up to her.

"If you can't speak properly, just zip it. No one's gonna mistake you for a mute. You're from a wealthy family, but where's your basic manners? Did your mom forget to pack your brain when she had you?" Chapter 35: The Warning

Cathy froze, her eyes wide with anger after being yelled at.

"Who do you think you are? How dare you talk to me like that?"

Cathy was always arrogant and bossy. With the Shawn and Swift families backing her, she'd been praised way too much and naturally believed everyone should obey her.

She figured everyone owed her some respect.

Cathy wasn't about to take Candy's crap.

Chloe knew Candy had a sharp tongue, and Cathy didn't stand a chance against her.

She thought, "If they start fighting, I might just lose it and punch Cathy."

When the time comes, I might end up not getting married again!

Chloe hooked her arm around Candy's and whispered, "Candy, don't argue with her."

Seeing Chloe trying to make peace, Cathy thought, "I was just wondering why Chloe's been acting so different lately."

"Looks like she's still just as cautious and timid as ever."

Chloe sneered, "How could a friend of a woman like you be any good? I suggest you steer clear of people like that from now on."

"How about I snitch to Michael, and then he'll punish you!"

Chloe tugged on Candy's hand, pausing for a moment. Slowly, she closed her eyes.

"What? Did I say something wrong? People like you naturally attract troublemakers. Don't go around telling people you're part of the Shawn family. You're an embarrassment to us..." Chloe thought, "Screw it. If I can't take it anymore, I won't!"

Chloe shot Cathy a furious glare.

In a heartbeat, she swung her arm and slapped Cathy across the face.

Cathy's cheeks stung as two sharp slaps echoed in the air.

She froze. After a long moment, she covered her face in disbelief, staring at Chloe in shock.

"You dare hit me? Who do you think you are?"

Chloe glared at her. "You curse in public, disrespect your elders, and slander my friends."

"The Swift family didn't raise you right. As your cousin's wife,

I can't just stand by. Next time you talk like that, it won't be just a slap."
