Chapter 3

Chapter 3 Gwyneth Has a Boyfriend?

The room was awfully quiet.

They could hear a pin drop. Gwyneth kept her back straight, yet she was shaking inside.

Raynard looked at her poker face and asked darkly, “You guess?”

Gwyneth’s heart sank.

She forgot that Raynard hated vague answers.

Lowering her head, Gwyneth squared her jaw and said firmly, “Nobody had entered your room after I brought you back.”

Her tone was certain, leaving no space for doubts.

The room fell silent again. Gwyneth never knew a minute could be this long.

But she had to stay strong.

Once Raynard found out she was lying, her career was over and Janine would be in trouble too.

She had settled down in Harbor City. If she couldn’t get a job in Harbor City ever again, her life would be miserable.

Gwyneth didn’t know how long she waited. When her shirt was soaked in sweat, Raynard spoke up. “OK.”

She closed her eyes and heaved a sigh of relief, thinking that she made it through.

“Bring me the Seaward Group’s proposal,” Raynard ordered in a deep voice.

As Raynard had turned his focus on work, Gwyneth relaxed slightly. She said with a nod, “Yes.”

In the following month, they continued the business trip and went to many places. Gwyneth had avoided being alone with Raynard during the whole time.

One month later, they returned to Harbor City from overseas.

As usual, she had two days off after a long business trip. Raynard went to the office for an urgent meeting.

Darron greeted Raynard humbly after the meeting.

Raynard frowned at the sight of Darron. “Where’s Gwyneth?”

“Don’t you remember that the staff can have a vacation after a long-term business trip? You’ve left the country for a month. I think Ms. Maynard needs the day off to see her boyfriend.”

A dangerous glint showed in Raynard’s eyes and soon disappeared.

Darron was caught off guard by the sudden tension in the room.

Meanwhile, in the company dormitory.

Janine whispered in Gwyneth’s ear, “Did Mr. Fletcher do anything afterward?”

Gwyneth jumped as Janine suddenly brought up the incident a month ago. She immediately glanced at the doors of the other two rooms.

Janine said, “Relax. They’re gone. We’re alone in the house.”

Gwyneth calmed down at Janine’s assurance. She had tried her hardest to fool Raynard that day.

Although it had been a month, Gwyneth still flinched involuntarily when Janine brought up the event.

Recalling Raynard’s gloomy expression that day, Gwyneth paused before answering, “Mr. Fletcher wouldn’t want to know there was a woman in his room that night.”

Therefore, when he ordered Gwyneth to find the owner of the pendant, he merely wanted to make sure of it. Maybe he didn’t care about that night much.

Convincing herself of that theory, Gwyneth finally let her heart down.

Janine nodded. “That’s nice. Women who seduced Mr. Fletcher never ended well. Sleeping with him isn’t a good thing.”

“I know. Come on. Stop talking about it. I need to go to the bank.”

Gwyneth didn’t want to talk about it at all.

Janine felt sad for Gwyneth when she mentioned going to a bank. “Your brother can look for internships now. Why does he still ask you for living expenses?”

Gwyneth had picked up her purse and went to the foyer.

While changing her shoes, she said, “He hasn’t found a suitable job yet. During the business trip, he called me several times.”

Gwyneth’s father died when she was five. She was the middle child with an elder sister and a younger brother.

Her sister had married while her brother would graduate from college six months later. By then, she and her sister wouldn’t be burdened with his living costs.

Hearing that Gwyneth’s brother called her several times for money,

Janine grew more upset. “Your mom spoils him too much. She never pays a dime for your tuition.

“He could started looking for an internship three months ago. Yet, he still hasn’t found a job. I bet it’s because he’s too picky.”

A dark glint showed in Gwyneth’s eyes when Janine mentioned her mom. She changed the subject. “Do you want to go with me?”

“No. Bring some food for me when you come back.”

Gwyneth nodded. “OK.”

Gwyneth walked out of the company dormitory.

It was a sunny day, yet Gwyneth felt she was freezing. To be exact, she hadn’t felt warm since her grandma died.

Her phone was vibrating violently in her purse.

Gwyneth took it out and hung up angrily when she saw the caller ID. It was Dudley Webb, her half-brother.

Her phone rang again as soon as she hung up.

Gwyneth picked up and said grumpily, “Use the time you call me to look for a job. You would have interviews lining up.”
