Chapter 4
Connor handed over a handkerchief and said, "You are drenched. Dry yourself first."
"Are you surprised to see me?"
Annette took the handkerchief and apologized, "Sorry for messing up your car. I'll wash your car when the rain stops."
The car stopped at the convenience store at the intersection. Annette opened the door and was about to get off.
Connor said to the driver, "Give her an umbrella."
The driver handed an umbrella to Annette.
Annette opened the umbrella. She turned to Connor and said, "Alpha Connor, thanks for helping me out."
"It takes more than paying lip service." Connor's expression was cold.
"Bye." She took a step back and limped toward the convenience store.
"Stop the car," Connor said to the driver, who had just started the engine.
He got out of the car with another umbrella. He caught up with Annette and pulled her.
Annette turned around and was surprised. "Alpha Connor?"
"Are you injured? Come with me to the pack. I'll get the doctor to check on you," Connor said.
"I'm fine, and I need to work," Annette refused.
"A job at a convenience store?" Connor glanced at the store not far from them. He said, "You can clean my home for me. I don't know how much they pay you, but I'll pay you three times more."
"I told you before that I didn't want to see you again, so no," Annette said.
"You know that I have many ways to keep you from getting any kind of job," Connor said nonchalantly.
"You can't do that to me." Annette gritted her teeth. Then she snorted, "Then I want more money."
"Are you raising the price?"
"That's right."
"Sure. As you wish. But you'd better not be late."
After Connor finished speaking, he left. Annette was late because of her conversation with Connor.
The manager of the convenience store was kind. He did not deduct money from Annette's salary, so she worked half an hour longer.
When Annette returned to the dorm of the werewolf university, she saw Lena sitting on the bed, reading a book.
Lena wasn't happy to see Annette.
Annette walked toward Lena, looked at her, and said coldly, "Lena, I think you should move out."
Annette asked Lena to move to another dorm. Her cold attitude made Lena angry.
"Why?" Lena stood up, looked at Annette, and said angrily, "Annette, Kyle sleeps with me, because he loves me. Do you still believe in what the teacher says about mates? We are not ancient werewolves. We aren't ancient beasts anymore, OK? You are making Kyle your slave, just because he is your mate. Kyle is a free man and compared with you, I'm more suited for him."
Annette closed the book. She stood up to look at Lena with a cold and distant gaze.
Annette said, "If ignoring the connection between mates and having an affair is what he wants, then you are right. I'm not the right person for him. Because I don't sleep around like him. Also, I said that I would reject him. So, only one of us can stay in this dorm."
"Is that so? Then you should move out. I won't," Lena raised her head and said complacently.
Annette smiled coldly, "Fine. You'd better not regret it."
"So? Do you want to challenge me? Don't forget that you're just a Rogue."
Lena looked at Annette provocatively. To her surprise, Annette gave up quarreling with her.
Annette sat down and opened a book.
Lena clenched her fists and returned to her bed.
The next day, everyone at the university was gossiping about Lena and Kyle. Lena went to her locker to get the books for her next class.
She heard the people nearby whispering that she had seduced Kyle and ruined his relationship with Annette and that she brought shame to all werewolves.
Lena was so angry that her face turned red.
After class, Annette was about to leave the classroom, when Lena rushed in from outside.
Lena came to Annette, crying as she said, "Annette, why did you do this to me? I thought you were my friend. Why did you slander me?"
Annette held the book in her arms. She stood up and looked at Lena.
Then Annette said in a "sad" tone, "Lena, I've always considered you as my friend. But the scene of you and Kyle in bed is killing me since he is my mate. I bet you don't know what that felt like. Then, you told me that you loved him. So, I rejected Kyle for you. What else do you want me to do?"
She wiped her tears and ran away from Lena.
Lena was stunned. The truth came out through their conversation.
Soon, everyone in the university
heard about what Lena had done
Her
me represented the type of
woman who broke off mates among the werewolves.
Annette walked out of the building. Wondering if she should look for a new place to stay. Then, her phone rang.
She took out her phone. It was Connor.
She thought, 'Why is he calling me again?'
She picked up the phone and said, "Hi, Alpha Connor."
"It's a nice day," Connor said.
"Really?" Annette looked up at the sky and said helplessly. "Well, whatever you say."
"I remember you said yesterday that you would wash my car when the rain stopped."
"I see." Annette hung up the phone.
After a while, Annette came to Connor's company. The driver took her to the parking lot and showed her the car from yesterday.
"This is the one, Ms. Hall. Here is the key." Then, the driver left.
Annette took the car key. She didn't know what to do now. Though she had a driver's license, she never owned a car and didn't know how to drive.
She circled the black car and finally decided to get in.
Meanwhile, Connor opened the door and got out of the car.
Annette was startled. "Alpha Connor, what are you doing in the car?"
"Well, this is my car, isn't it?"
"That's not what I meant. I thought I was supposed to drive it to the carwash."
Connor looked at her coldly and asked, "You don't know how to drive, right?"
Annette nodded.
Connor spread out his hands and said, "Give me the key and get in."
He started the car. Annette said politely, "I ruined the car seat, and now you have to drive me to the car wash. I'm so sorry."
"Well, I don't need you to be sorry, so I'm giving you a chance to do something for me before washing the car."
"What do you want me to do?"
"Join me for lunch."
She looked at Connor and said, "Lunch? I'm afraid I'll pass. I'm not hungry. Besides, I shouldn't go out with you for a meal like that."
"You know what? This is a very
expensive car. The carpet your
ruined yesterday was a limited edition from Hermes, but I have to
throw it away. Do you prefer to pay
for that, or join me for lunch?"
Annette felt threatened. She was unhappy about it and turned to Connor. "Are all the leaders of the werewolves as fussy as you?"
"So, what is your choice?" Connor asked.
"I'll go with you." She couldn't afford the expensive carpet.
Connor smirked after he got what he wanted.
As the car pulled up to the entrance of a restaurant, Connor pointed to the back of the car and said, "There's a dress in the back seat. Go get changed."
"Get changed in the car?"
"It's very private in the back, don't worry."
He got out of the car and leaned against the car door, waiting for her.
Soon, she changed her clothes and got out of the car.
He sized her up with content.
He put her hand around his arm gently.
They went upstairs together. "All you need to do is to keep smiling and enjoy the food. You don't need to do the talking."
Annette was a little confused. She somehow had the feeling that it was more than a meal.
They walked to the table reserved for them, and Annette realized that there was a woman who was going to join them.
She noticed that the woman was also a werewolf.
Moreover, the woman was a werewolf with Alpha's blood.
Annette's wolf felt a little unsettled.
