Chapter 2
Annette's POV
"What would you like to drink?"
I didn't dwell long on what happened at the entrance. Nor did I think too much about why the ruthless Connor Norman helped me, I just figured he was in a good mood today.
With deafening music blaring, I found a booth and asked the bartender for a whiskey. Normally, I could only handle cocktails, but tonight I had one goal-to get drunk and forget everything.
I sipped my drink absentmindedly, still tormented by the image of Kyle with the other man and woman. Our love felt like a sick joke.
Shaking the liquid in my glass, I cursed Kyle, Lena, and the Moon Goddess, feeling my face grow hotter and my head heavier. "Damn it! I should go. There's no one to pick me up."
I wobbled as I stood up, my vision blurring. I shook my head hard and turned, but I stumbled, expecting to hit the floor.
A pair of strong hands caught me.
I raised up my head and looked up to see a short, stocky man in a suit. I couldn't make out his expression, but he was smiling at me.
"Why would a pretty woman like you come to a bar alone to get drunk? Let me take care of you. What if you fall again?"
Despite his help, I felt an inexplicable sense of repulsion and unease towards him.
"No, please let go of me," I said, trying to open my eyes wide, hoping he would understand and leave me alone. But he held onto me firmly and started pulling me outside. A wave of unease spread through my heart. I tried to break free but lacked the strength.
"You drank the drink I sent over, and now you won't let me take you home. You're a heartless little sweetheart," he whispered, his hot breath on my ear, igniting an unusual heat within me.
What terrified me more were his words. I realized then that there was something wrong with the drink the bartender had given me.
As he dragged me closer to the exit, despair engulfed me. I felt weaker and weaker, and just as I was about to lose consciousness, another pair of warm hands grasped my arm. en.swhovels.net
"Where are you taking her?" A familiar deep and raspy voice sounded. The man holding me immediately loosened his grip.
I fell into a warm embrace that smelled pleasantly of vanilla.
"Alpha... Alpha Connor, I didn't know she was with you," the man stammered.
"Get lost!"
Feeling the disgusting smell around me fade away, I instinctively let out a sigh of relief. But soon, the effects of the alcohol surged through my body again igniting a sense of emptiness inside me that desperately needed to be filled.
Hot, very hot.

drawn to the coolness of his skin, which felt soothing against mine.
"Take me away..." I murmured, nuzzling his neck like a kitten. Kyle had already betrayed me, and at this moment, I had nothing left to lose.
I knew what I needed now, but I wasn't sure if this man would help me.
Suddenly, I felt a force on my chin. His well-defined fingers gripped my chin, forcing me to look at him.
I fell into a pair of gray eyes.
"Are you sure?" he asked.
I didn't answer. Instead, I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him down, and stood on tiptoe to plant a scorching kiss on his cool lips. "As you wish," he rasped.
