Chapter I’ll keep us safe 8:10 am 21st Oct 2180
On the outskirts of Baltimore
“Vicky, can you please call Sara and Zackery?” Ginny said.
“Ok, Ginny,” Vicky said.
Gabriel sipped at his coffee.
Watching Dmitry had wrung them both out, but Ginny seemed to have pulled herself together.
He was amazed at her resilience.
“Hi there. Sara and Zackery here,” Sara said. “Is everything ok?”
“Can anybody hear you?” Ginny asked. “I mean, are you sitting anywhere where other people can hear our conversation?”
“Just a minute,” Sara said, then “Ok, we’re good this end. What’s up?”
“We left the STU in Switzerland,” Ginny said. “Dmitry turned up with another bunch of guys with guns.”
“Shit,” said Zackery.
“What happened to you guys?” Sara said.
“We weren’t there,” said Ginny. “We were watching a vid feed. But what is clear is that Dmitry is a fucking psychopath. He shot one of his own men when he realised they had followed a false trail.”
“Fuck!” Zackery said.
“So, what should we do?” Sara said.
“I think that you should move,” Ginny said. “Just for a little while. Just in case they think to back-track ... and come back to Seville. They have no technical way of tracing you, but just in case.”
“Yeah, just in case,” said Zackery.
“Ok,” Sara said. “We’ve got our gear together ... in fact we’ve got it in a bag with us right now. Any thoughts as to where we should ...?”
“I don’t think you should tell us,” Ginny said. “If anything happens and we ...”
“Oh God,” Sara said. “Do you think that, that if they caught you they would ...?”
“Dmitry is not a nice man,” Ginny said. “I don’t want to take the risk of knowing where you guys have gone.”
“Ok, Ginny,” Zackery said. “We’re getting under-way right now. We’ve been expecting this call, so we are ready to go. Good luck guys.”
“And you,” Ginny said.
“They have closed the call”, Vicky said.
“Ok, thanks Vicky,” Ginny said.
“I hope they’ll be alright,” Ginny said to Gabriel.
“I hope we’ll be alright,” Gabriel said.
“I’ll keep us safe,” Ginny said.
