Chapter 29 — the breaking.



Eternity later, she was still falling.

Eternity later, there was only pain.

Was this death? Or was this what absolute life felt like?

Was she in Saqa? A certain ripper had once promised her that he would visit this place with her.

But the ripper was long dead.

Her soul was weeping still, severely wounded with an unhealing wound still, though its sobs and throbs were drowned out by the noise of agony.

If she cried into this void, would anyone listen?

If she called out to her ripper, would he appear?

If she wished, would she be obliged?

Why was she alone again? Where was the wicked water-wielder?

You have only me, the voice spoke.

And laughed.
