Abe, a weird and short werewolf novel

Chapter 3

Abbygail's point of view:

“No, no, no!” Harley wailed as she came into my room.

It was six-thirty and I had actually fallen asleep on the bag of chips I had opened last night.

“You can’t just sleep with chips in your bed!” She continued her rant while pulling the blankets away and pushing me out of the bed. “Go into the shower, now!” She pushed me again, closing the bathroom door behind my ass.

“New start, my ass!” I said out loud.

“Don’t you dare start that attitude with me!” Harley shouted, probably even pointing her finger towards the bathroom.

I mumbled some curses and got undressed. How much I hated for Harley to act like a mother right now, she was right, I need to get showered. Once underneath the rainfall showerhead, I heard Harley starting up my vacuum cleaner and she went her way with the chips in my bed.

It took half an hour, but now I’m sitting at my kitchen island, clean and dressed, while Harley took care of my unruly curled hair. “How do you live with this kind of hair?!” She cursed at it, even though I knew she liked to care for me in this way.

Eventually, she had used several lotions and moisturizers, combed gently through my hair with a wide-toothed comb and decided to put all of it in a high ponytail, at which my hair poofed out from the elastic band, pointing in all directions. “This will have to do.” She finally said, satisfied with her project.

“For what?” I asked her.

“For metwing anew cwient.” She murmured while taking a sip of coffee.

“What now?” I asked her again, making sure it wasn’t something viral she was getting sick on.

“For meeting a new client.” She whispered and I rose one of my eyebrows. “For meeting a new client, alright!” She said out loud now, confirming her whisper.

“No.” I stated and continued my breakfast.

“I know you don’t want it, but-

“No! It’s for your safety as well!” I said angry and shoved the bowl of cereal away from me, not wanting to eat anymore.

I love Harley and she can pull me out of bed and push me under the shower as much as she likes, at which I will even listen and comply, but to this, our safety, no argument could withdraw me from it. No one can link my face to my job or the other way around. I’m Abe to all our clients, and whether they believe me to be a male or female, I don’t care, but other than those three letters, they won’t get anything from me.

“I know, but you are not getting out of the house at all anymore! Since when have you had a fun night out?” She asked me worriedly.

“Yesterday, when you forced me out of my home.”

“You actually went somewhere to meet new people?” She asked dumbfounded and I nodded. “Wow, I knew you had been outside but I wouldn’t have thought you would talk to other human beings.”

“Yep, I even promised her that we would be going out next week again.” I told her, hoping that she would start talking to me about this subject, rather than continuing her wish for me to meet a client.

I explained everything that had happened and how I felt about it, she beamed at me that I had finally decided to crawl out of my shell again. “I know you have been through some rough shit, months ago, but this is good. I’m glad I pushed you out of your home.” She smiled gently, putting her hand on my shoulder for comfort.

I wasn’t sure if I could really break through my wall of defence, carelessness and boredom, but I’m going to try at least. Harley was right to do what she did, this first step was good.

“Harley, I don’t want to discuss meeting a client again.” I said to her.

“Yes, yes, now that I know you have gone out yesterday, I’ll decline this client. I’m sure Mister Williams will understand our security protocol.” She waved it off, not bothering me with any details about this client, as we would probably lose it now anyway.

“How much was he offering, though?” I asked curiously.

“He wanted you to meet him in his house and update his security system, together with a yearly salary to keep it updated and supervised. He would pay us ten thousand dollars a month as a maintenance fee, and that is without the cost of new parts or a completely new system.” She explained.

“Ouch… That is a big job to lose. A fun one too.” I said while grabbing my soggy bowl of cereal again, deciding that I should eat it.

Harley’s phone began to buzz and when she checked it, she chuckled and looked up at me. “Where do you want your two million to be sent to?” She asked me as she just received word from the FBI to have confirmation on catching the killer of three young women, after receiving my detailed description of what the murderous scumbag had been doing lately.

I had gone through all the information and data that they had sent me, as that was the project I worked on yesterday, and at about four in the morning, I found the missing key in this ongoing case. I hated that this was something even the FBI couldn’t have handled on their own, as they have a tech department, but as one of the murdered women was the daughter of a high placed politician, they had spared no expenses.

The more money you got, the more demands you could claim. Blegh! The world is broken.

“Spread it out to twenty small orphanages, and also to twenty small businesses that focus their goal on self-defence classes for women.”

“Anonymously?”

“As always.”

Harley and I kept talking a little more, about finding me some slightly illegal jobs to keep my brain occupied with, as I loved a little danger, and she also opened the door for the cleaning company that had delivered my laundry, steamed and cleaned. She informed me that two shirts had to be tossed away as they were beyond repair and cleaning, but other than that, three filled boxes stood now in my living room.

“I’d love to help you and put them in your closet again, but the twins are being a hazard to my nanny, and I can’t leave her alone with them for too long.” Harley smiled, grabbing her jacket and leaving my house.

“Right. So I have to do this on my own? Crap!” I cursed as I picked up the first box.

“Linda, I told you, I don’t feel comfortable yet to go and visit your people. You know I’ve been through something a few months ago.” I told her, while she hooked her arm in mine, walking me towards the door of this big ass mansion.

The week had passed but I hadn’t left my house at all, besides coming here now.

“Oh come on, they will love you just like I do. Besides, you told me you had to be pushed every now and then, to get out of your old life.” She threw back my own words at which I had to groan.

“Well, that doesn’t mean I like it if it happens!” I said half angry.

“Yeah well, it’s going to happen!” Linda snapped back. “Besides, I still have to thank you for what you did for me, so, me pulling you out of a sombre life, is my payment to you.”

“I decline.”

“No, you are not.” Linda stated.

“I refuse.”

“That’s unfortunate, but your written refusal has gotten mixed up in the mail.” She countered smartly, still dragging me.

This girl is strong though! I know I’m not the lightest, hell I have a belly and wear clothes, size ten or twelve, but still, she hardly breaks a sweat and still keeps on walking on her high heels, pulling me with her!

We reached the entrance of the mansion, leaving the parking lot behind us, covered in slight darkness as the evening started to get close already. It was about nine o clock now, as it had taken about an hour by car to get here. And ‘here’ was beautiful! I loved going through the woods to reach this house as it gave a mysterious vibe to it.

Linda just marched right in by pushing the left door of the double-doored entrance. Then, she pulled me upstairs, to supposedly her room and called for someone named Mike to come over.

“Is she here?” A curious and well-manicured man stepped into the room and Linda nodded. “Oh my! She doesn’t only need a mental make-over, but a physical one too!” He chirped as he walked around me, pulling strands of my hair between his fingers and even touching the hem of my floral dress.

“What did you just say?” I furrowed my brows as this humiliation got me angry.

“Oh, don’t worry, love. I mean it in the bestest of ways possible. You see, Linda here told me all about how you saved her life with some techno voodoo and she wanted to repay you by taking you out. But honey, nu-uh, you are not going with us looking like that.” He said while his left hand was on his chest and his right pointed to… well… all of me.

“Linda, seriously, I’m going home.” I said while taking a few steps forward.

“Andrea, look at me.” Linda started. “Do you think I wear too much make-up?” She asked and I said no, she looked beautiful. “Do you think I wear slutty clothes?” She then asked and again I said no. “Well, Mike here, he did this for me. He is a truly great friend and he doesn’t want to drag you up like his latest fashion model, he seeks out the best in you and transforms you in you.” She continued and I sighed.

“Fine. But I hate you.” I conceded, making a mental note to find me some new friends soon.
