Chapter Suspicious Minds
Frank Grimes’ POV
Arrowhead Alpha House
Friday, July 24, 2020
“Honey? Wake up. It’s time for your pills.”
I groaned as I opened my eyes to look at my mate by our bedside. “Huh?”
“Every six hours, love. Let me take your blood pressure, then you can sit up.” It was normal, but I did wince as I sat up. It would take a week or two for the bullet wound to heal enough it didn't hurt all the time. “And don’t tell me it doesn’t hurt.”
I popped the painkiller and the antibiotic. The hospital discharged me only because the Pack had doctors available to monitor my care, and Colletta promised she’d keep me in line. I drank the water, then got up to use the bathroom. Colletta was waiting for me when I came back out, sitting on my side of the bed. “What’s wrong?”
“Things aren’t making sense,” she said.
I sat by her, and she leaned into my good side. “Like what?”
“How did the Cartel know where everyone was? We didn’t tell anyone outside the Pack and the Council about this walkthrough. Yet an entire Cartel squad was waiting for them to emerge from the old road?”
I let out a sigh. “The team could have been close by and monitoring us for an opportunity. There have been drone flyovers, including one just before the attack.”
“That doesn’t explain the border alarms and cameras.”
“What do you mean?”
“Chase talked to me after you went to bed. He confirmed the perimeter alarms were disabled and the camera feeds looped. We should have detected the attackers well before the ambush, and we didn’t. Whoever did it had access to the Arrowhead security center. One of his people, perhaps working with an enforcer, had to have done it.”
“That’s not good.” I thought about how it might happen. “There’s a danger in taking in rogues and transfers, especially in the numbers Arrowhead is talking. You leave yourself open for double agents or wolves you can't trust.”
Colletta let out a breath. “I’m furious that someone put my family in danger. I could have lost you, my youngest son, and his mate in that attack. That’s not the thing that bothers me the most, though.”
“What?”
She looked up at me with wide eyes. “I think I might know who is responsible, but if I’m right? It’s going to be a nuclear explosion.” I couldn’t imagine, so I waited for her to continue. “Luna Rebecca.”
“WHAT THE FUCK? She’s Rori’s Aunt! They are blood family!”
“And Rori is protecting the killer of her mate's sister.”
I closed my eyes, thinking through the implications. “This is nuts.”
“Hear me out,” Colletta said. “Nathan shows up here. He’s not the big, bad wolf. He’s got a family, a daughter who is part of the Pack, and he shows remorse. His story is powerful enough to gain sympathy with the other Alphas, especially Rori. Luna Rebecca and Alpha Martin panic; no longer is his death a sure thing. Rori will hold sway with them when they consider his sentencing, and what if she argues for leniency? Martin’s blood claim isn’t as strong. Nathan could walk away.”
She was right. “They’d never stand for that.”
“And with the new treaties, they can’t kill a rogue with impunity. They need him to die without suspicion falling on them. Who better than a Cartel crew to do that?”
My mind was about to explode. “Why would the Cartel risk it?”
“Money is the simplest explanation. Rebecca could offer them a chance to kidnap Rori, knowing Arrowhead would give up Spider Monkey to get her back. If it works, she gets what she wants and it costs her nothing.”
“Spider Monkey isn’t nothing.”
“She’s a werewolf now, but Vic hasn’t updated the Council rosters to reflect that yet. As far as Alpha Martin knows, she’s human. That means expendable.”
“What else?“
“Rebecca attacks Nathan at the graveyard, and two enforcers and a warrior bring her back early. She’s out of danger before the attack, and Rori’s armed escort gets cut in half. We’d never send a pregnant Alpha out there with such a small escort."
“And the Security Center didn’t send replacements right away because they are almost done.” It was monstrous, audacious, and unbelievable. I couldn’t find a logical reason to reject the possibility. “The team didn’t succeed. Rori and Chase escaped, and Nathan survived.”
She nodded. “Imagine you are on the team. Your orders are to kill Nathan but capture Rori intact. The first shots take out the drivers, but Nathan is behind the ATV with Rori. What do you do?”
I thought about it. “Suppress the fire from the other ATV while sending a team to retrieve the package. You have to be careful not to kill the hostage in the crossfire.”
She nodded. “You send teams to flank them, but it takes time. Resistance is stiffer than you expect because Nathan got to the rifle. You’ve taken casualties, and then your kidnapping target escapes. Reinforcements will be there any minute. What do you do now?”
“Withdraw,” I said. “If Rori was my payment, I don’t care if Nathan is dead. He’s not worth risking the rest of my crew. Get out before the reinforcements arrive.”
Colletta slid over onto my lap. “It fits, but I can’t believe they’d do this.”
“I don’t want to believe it. What are you planning to do now?”
“I don’t have enough to confront them. We need more evidence.”
“Yeah. I’ll talk to the FBI in the morning. They can see if there were any suspicious phone calls from the Pack grounds yesterday.”
“I called Chief Enforcer Trestman and told him my suspicions. He’s flying out with a team to do a very discrete investigation. He’ll work with Chase to get answers.”
That was good. Even a rumor of Adirondack Pack involvement in the attack would send shockwaves through the Council and Packs. “You’re covering all the bases the right way, honey. Where is Nathan now?”
“The van just left for Rochester. He’s with Mykayla and her moms. Vic Knightly is driving.”
I raised my eyebrow. “Really?”
“He volunteered. Vic has always watched over Mykayla, and he’s patched things up with Nathan. I sent an Enforcer along, and Chase sent two Pack Warriors in a second car.”
That was a smart precaution. “I can’t think of anything else to do tonight.”
Colletta wiggled her butt in my lap. “I can. You scared the hell out of me, Frank. I need you.” I looked down at my wounded arm. “That’s not the part of you I need.” She stood up, pulling her long T-shirt off. Underneath, she was wearing nothing. She pushed me back until I was lying down, my butt at the edge of the bed. “I’m driving, and leave your hands where they are. The doctor said not to exert yourself.”
So I didn’t. Colletta dropped to her knees between my legs. I lifted my hips so she could slide my shorts off and toss them aside. I was half-hard already. Watching the most powerful werewolf in the world suck my cock got me the rest of the way in seconds.
My love lavished her attention and skills on me, and I was building to a peak. She sensed me getting close and took me into her throat. Her tongue sticking out and licking my balls sent me past the point of no return. I came hard, filling her throat and mouth with my hot seed. “Jesus,” I said as she finally popped off. “Your turn.”
She crawled up my body, and I spent the next ten minutes showing her everything I knew about pleasing a woman with a mouth and five fingers. She screamed out her orgasm, then moved back to stand next to the bed.
“You’re hard again,” she said as she caressed my length.“I want this deep inside me, love.”
She turned around and straddled my legs. It was hard to believe her age with that ass in your face. I wanted to smack it as she grabbed the base of my manhood, but I remembered her warning. She positioned it at her entrance and lowered herself onto it slowly. We both groaned in pleasure when she reached the bottom. “So fucking good,” I moaned.
Colletta’s love and pleasure throbbed over the bond as she slowly moved up. When just the head was left inside, she slowly reversed course. After a few strokes like this, I tried bucking up into her. “Not yet,” she said.
She was too excited to maintain the slow torture. A few minutes later, she was bouncing off me every few seconds. She came on my cock, but it wasn’t the big one. The sounds of her wet sex and the smack of her ass on my hips filled the room.
I'd already popped once, so I was good for a while. She'd had a good workout by the time I was getting close. “My turn,” I said. I held her hip with my good arm and started pounding up into her. My position allowed me to brace my legs on the floor. She leaned back, her arms at my side while my thrusts hit her g-spot again and again. “I’m going to cum,” I told her.
“Do it,” she moaned.
I held out for three more thrusts, then buried myself inside her as I came hard. I smacked her soaked pussy twice. The pain triggered a leg-shaking orgasm. She was still twitching when I rolled us on our sides, our combined juices flowing out to soak the edge of the bed. I spooned her, my good arm cupping a breast as we regained our breath.
She eventually went to the bathroom, returning with a warm washcloth. “I can’t imagine a life without you, Frank Grimes. Don’t get yourself killed.”
“I’d run through the gates of hell with a gallon of gasoline to return to you,” I told her. “I love you, Colletta.”
We fell asleep until the alarm woke us two hours later, and I made love to her again. There was something about Arrowhead that made her horny as hell, and I couldn’t argue with the results. Maybe the Blessing would strike again?
