A Wolves World

Chapter Shocking News

The next few days went by normally going to classes having lunch with Connor. It was actually nice because since we learned more about what Connor was supposed to be doing here Brett has started actually talking to Connor instead of glaring at him. Brett was right on Friday night, I started to feel the pull of the moon even though it wasn’t going to be here until Sunday night. Late Saturday afternoon Brett and I were practicing fighting in the woods behind my house when I heard the sound of a car pulling up to the house.

I looked to Brett to see if he had heard it too and by the way that his ears perked he had. I motioned towards the house and Brett must have gotten what I meant because we both shifted into our human forms and ran to the house. We quickly snuck in through the back door and went to the living room and turned the tv on. Seconds later my parents walked through the door suitcases in hand.

“Hey, kids.” My dad says when he sees us sitting on the couch.

“Hey mom, dad.”

“Welcome back Mr. and Mrs. Wagner how was the trip?”

“It was very good thank you for asking Brett.” My mom says as she puts her bags down. I get up off the couch and make my way over to my parents to give them a hug.

“I’ve missed you guys,” I say, giving them each a hug.

“We’ve missed you to Erica.” my mom says giving me an extra tight hug. “How have classes been the last month anything exciting happen?” she asks, letting me out of her hug. Brett and I share a quick look as he comes to stand next to me.

“Not really just a new kid started the day you left and he has become a friend over the last month.

“Well, that’s nice maybe you should invite him around. We would love to meet him. Wouldn’t we dear.” she says turning to my dad.

“Of course we would love to meet him.” My dad adds. I can feel Brett Tense slightly next to me as though we know that Connor isn’t likely to be a danger to us, he still doesn’t want Connor to know where I live just in case he would change his mind.

“Well I can ask him, but his parents are pretty strict about him going to other people’s houses and everything after losing his sister not too long ago.”

“He lost his sister?” my dad asks as my mom seemed too shocked to speak.

“From what he has told us she had left with someone after going to his house only once. So his parents are worried that it will happen again.” I say, I mean it was a lie but it did have the truth woven into it a little bit.

“Well, maybe we could go to his place sometime.”

“Maybe,” I say though I know that it probably won’t happen. “Well you guys must be tired from your trip, so how about you go unpack and Brett and I will get dinner cooking.”

“That sounds wonderful.” My mom says before picking up her bags and then follows dad upstairs and to their room.

“Would you seriously ask him to come over here?” Brett asks when my parents are out of earshot.

“No, I wouldn’t Brett, not unless I know you would be okay with it,” I say giving him a kiss on the cheek. “Now let’s go get something cooking shall we.”

“Okay.” We begin cooking while my parents get unpacked and go downstairs to get their clothes into the wash and put the suitcases into storage for now. Once dinner was done cooking we all sat down and started eating, my parents talked about the trip and everything they did. They also ask us about school and what we had been doing to pass the time while they were away. We told them mostly the truth just leaving everything relating to us being werewolves and Connor ’s family wanting to turn Brett in to get their daughter back from his old pack. After we finish eating and all the dishes are taken care of Brett decides it is time for him to head back to the den. We head out the front door and walk towards the woods when I catch a scent that is familiar but I can’t quite place it.

“You smell that too right?” I ask turning to face Brett. He smells the air and turns his head towards the mailbox.

“Yeah, it’s Arthur’s scent.” He says walking to the mailbox I follow closely behind him. When we reach the mailbox Brett opens it and inside is one envelope from Aurthur addressed to me. I give Brett a curious look.

“I didn’t send him anything more even if I did it wouldn’t have gotten here this quick,” he says in response to the look I gave him. He opens it and unfolds the paper and begins to read.

Dear Brett and Erica,

I know I just wrote to you the other day but I just learned that the alpha plans to turn the girl you wrote to me about on the morning of the full moon. And if it turns out that they are mates they plan to do the mating ceremony the next day. I know that there is nothing you can do about it but I thought you would like to know. I would be careful how you tell the boy if you tell him as he could react badly. And if it is found that they aren’t mates I don’t know what that will mean for the girl. But I will keep you informed on any more changes I learn.

Sincerely Arthur

“That’s tomorrow,” I say after Brett finishes reading the letter. “Should we tell Connor?”

“I honestly don’t know what we should do, I wasn’t expecting they would do it so soon. And if it ends up that they are mates and they do the ceremony then it is not like we will be able to save her because she will need to be with her mate.”

“We have to tell him,” I say after a moment of silence. “I am not going to be able to look him in the eye on Monday and lie to him about his sister being turned and possibly getting mated to the Alpha.”

“I know, text him and tell him to go to the woods by his house and we will find him or meet us at school.”

“Okay, I will text him. And let you know what he says about where to meet.” Brett kisses me on the cheek and then heads off into the woods after putting the letter into his pocket. As I turn to head back to the house I hear Brett howl from the woods. Checking to make sure my parents aren’t looking, I shift and howl back before shifting back to human and heading inside.

I head to my room and text Connor and he agrees to meet at school tomorrow morning. I let Brett Know and then open my computer and watch some youtube videos to take my mind off of what we have just learned. The next morning I tell my Parents that Brett is taking me on a date and that I wouldn’t be back until afternoon. Yet another lie that I have to tell them. I meet Brett a little way into the woods and we take off running towards the school. Connor wasn’t there when we arrived so we just messed around in wolf form behind the school until he showed up.

“So what did you want to tell me.” He says startling us making both me and Brett growl. “Sorry didn’t mean to scare you.” He says holding his hands up in surrender. We shift and walk up to meet Connor in the middle of the field.

“You may not like what we have to tell you but we can’t keep this from you. You deserve to know what is going on.” Brett says before Connor can speak again.

“What is it?” he asks, looking worried by what Brett said.

“Well we got a note from Brett’s Friend in the pack last night and well it was about your sister.”

“She’s not dead is she?” he asks trying to keep his voice from cracking.

“No she is alive but Arthur says that they are planning on turning her sometime today before the full moon tonight as she may be the Alpha’s mate.”

“So she is going to be like you guys, a werewolf.”

“Yeah, and if she is the Alpha’s mate then tomorrow they are going to do the mating ceremony.”

“What is the mating ceremony?”

“It is a ceremony that officially bonds two werewolves who are mates together and after the ceremony, the mates can’t be apart for too long or it will take a big toll on them,” Brett explains as he knows more about it than I do. None of us speak for a while as Brett and I don’t know what else to say and Connor seems to be too shocked to say anything.

“So if they end up being mates even if I were to turn you in I most likely won’t get my sister back no matter what.”

“I’m afraid so,” Brett speaks, putting a hand on Connor’s shoulder.

“Thank you guys for telling me, I should go home now before my parents wonder where I am.”

“You aren’t going to tell your parents about us, are you?” I ask as he starts to turn around.

“I don’t know what I am going to tell them, they should know about Esther and everything but I don’t know what they would do. I got to go,” he says leaving without another word to us.

“We have to be on our toes, he may like us but who knows what he will tell his parents about what we have told him,” Brett says turning to me.

“I know,” I say looking Brett in the eyes. “I’m scared. What if he tells his parents and then they tell your pack. Then we will have to leave and I will leave my parents and then we may never be able to live normal lives again because there will be missing posters and everything for me.”

“Then maybe you should just let me run on my own. I don’t want to make you give up your life here for a mess you aren’t fully a part of.”

“Like I told you before, you are not leaving me I can’t do this whole werewolf thing without you,” I say trying to hold back the tears that are threatening to escape.

“Well then let’s hope that it doesn’t come to that,” Brett says Placing a kiss on my forehead and pulling me in for a hug.
