A Villainess Should Be Strong

Chapter 65: Her Role

Blood splattered all over her. The innards, pieces of flesh, and all the man's ripped remains scattered everywhere.

Estelle was in a daze. In her hand was the man's severed head down to the neck, as the explosion only affected his torso. Even his pair of legs survived, lying lifeless on the ground with pieces of his intestines still attached.

"Hehe," She let out a giggle. Crazy. The entire fiasco was crazy.

"How displeasing,"

The stench of blood overwhelmed her nose. It was unpleasant, yet strangely satisfying.

A sense of accomplishment.

When one is given power and freedom, there was a scale that would be created inside their minds, a scale that signified their mental balance.

This scale also applied to normal people, but in case of the strongest beings, it was easier to tip.

As if everything was planned out beforehand, another interference came from the locked door.

"Estelle!!!" Heine and Yulia's figures entered her sight. Heine couldn't open the door by himself, so he asked for Yulia's help.

Yulia had to unlock the seal, which had been unexpectedly quite hard to solve.

[How convenient.] Estelle commented. Only after she was done with the deed did they come.

They didn't expect the scene that greeted their eyes.

Estelle's silver hair floated in the air as her golden-colored mana freely flowed in the air. Anger and madness were shown inside her eyes.

She couldn't believe that she fell for these petty tricks. Hikari, Kalis, and now this dead bastard.

[Can't I make contact with people with ease? Am I denied of even that right?] Estelle threw the man's head away, immediately rinsing her hand with Water Magic as if a great deal of filth was plastered onto it.

She took off the enhancement magic spells, taking in a deep breath. She braced herself for the pain that was about to come.

[How fucking convenient.] Once again, she repeated.

Sure enough, Estelle winced in pain once the spells were removed.

She cast healing magic on herself right after, rejuvenating her entire being and returning it to back when she hadn't engaged in a fight.

Unless Estelle miraculously forgives a man who just tried to kill her, he was doomed.

"The trip was cancelled. Shall we go tomorrow?" Estelle was tired.

Tired of everything.

She engaged in normal conversations with the two.

With full knowledge of Heine and Yulia's apathy to death for people like the man, she approached them. She didn't even bother to clean up the remains.

The man didn't deserve such a thing.

She didn't even know his name, but he knew what he was doing.

For people who delved into this industry, surely they would expect death to fall upon them too.

Yulia was a bit taken aback, but Heine was different.

"...What a beautiful human," Heine muttered. "Yes.. Just like that person's figure.."

"Huh? What do you mean?" Yulia asked, coming into the room while pinching her nose to avoid smelling the nasty stench.

The man's explosion was gruesome.

They were experienced, so they could stomach it, but it was still a bit unsettling.

Therefore, Yulia tried to forgo the hard facts and steer closer to Estelle.

"Estelle," Yulia called.

The girl's head turned towards the elder and tilted ever so slightly, her eyes as innocent as a newborn's.

As if nothing happened.

As if the incident was void.

In a sense, denial was a form of self protection.

Estelle, who was denying the truth of her deeds did not know how to face herself.

A villainess.

Really?

Was she destined to take on that path?

Is that the reason why people around her always got hit with misfortune?

On her first day in the world, her mother almost died.

Just because of a happy mistake, her entire Dukedom was almost implicated into a court scandal.

Monsters that related to her appeared.

Heine was taken off the throne.

Ancient humans that recognized her.

The Underworld and Arayle who had a maddened love for her.

Just what is it?

Why was fate against her so much?

She was a Duke's daughter, but even if she tried to live normally, misfortune came knocking at her door.

Was it because she's a villainess?

Because a villainess, the embodiment of evil was meant to fall?

She did nothing wrong. Her friends and close ones were innocent in the cases they were caught in.

They were sinners, but not to such a severe degree that the things pitted against them were considered a given.

Why?

Because she, Estelle Clareste had a role that had the world fuck her over at any possible chance?

No way in hell.

There was no way she was going to accept that.

Demise? Destruction? Downfall?

The literature she read in the past had villainesses, too.

At first, she accepted her fate without questioning it.

She believed that she, Kirisaki Reina, was sent over to enter this world to play a role.

And that role was a villainess.

But now, she had enough.

If the world turned against her, was she supposed to stay a pushover and let herself be dragged into ruin?

And in the process, her acquaintances would be dragged, too?

No.

That wasn't what she wanted.

What she wanted was..

..Was?

What did she want?

What was her purpose?

To terrorize others, being the villainess she is?

Or.. continue being 'Estelle Clareste', the human, without minding about her destined role?

Looking at Yulia and Heine, Estelle was able to tell that they were stressed.

Gritting her teeth, she resolved.

If the world painted her as evil, she will just do something a step ahead of it.

She would break the chains of 'evil' and 'good'. contemporary romance

Become something completely out of the bounds,  a new category not yet made into existence.

She was going to do it.

All the conspiracies, all the threats.

It meant nothing.

She, Estelle Clareste, was tired of it.
