Linda came to realize that Greenwood had caught Amber cheating on him with the principal. She wondered if he had gotten the results of his daughter's paternity test.
He even went as far as to cook up a storm at the school. He must have been furious!
Linda and Anna went to the principal's office to see this dramatic fight.
The sonorous sound of Greenwood's abusive words wafted along the floor. They even heard it from outside the office.
Men tended to flare up when they found out that their female partners had cheated on them. That was the way it was. Linda didn't feel sorry for Greenwood, for he, too, was also cheating on his wife. He deserved no sympathy from others. "Yes, you may be the principal of this school, but you have no right to fool around with my wife. How long have you two been together? Tell me the truth! Aren't you ashamed of yourself when you did it with a teacher of your school?" "Silence won't clean up your sins. You have to tell me how you are going to deal with it!"
Curses after curses could be heard outside the principal's office, attracting many students to this uproar as it had happened during their noon break!
But the principal told these students with a solemn face, "What are you all looking at? Haven't you got any schoolwork to attend to? Go back to your classroom to study."
These students had no reason to contradict him, for he was the big boss of this school. They had to obey his words and go back to their classrooms. But some rebellious ones didn't follow his instruction. They hid themselves in the bathroom where they could eavesdrop on the fight. It was certainly big news which was too interesting to miss!
High school students more or less knew what love and sex were about, so they had an inkling that something was not right. Not to mention, this was such a juicy gossip!
Linda and Anna didn't go to the exact site of the quarrel; instead, they chose a spot upstairs on the corridor where they could clearly see the two people and hear their conversation, while those downstairs couldn't see them. It was such a good spot.
"What do you want? You can't behave like this in school. If you insist on doing this, I shall call the police," the principal told Greenwood calmly.
"What do I want? You should know what I want! Go and call the police. I dare you." Greenwood was totally pissed at the principal who behaved like a just and decent man when he had slept with someone else's wife the whole time.
The principal was about to speak. But Amber came in a hurry and interrupted him. She was agitated upon hearing that Greenwood had gone to the principal's office. She had no idea how he found out about their affair. They were cautious with their meetings. They only saw each other in school. Private meetings were out of question.
So how did Greenwood find out about their relationship?
"Fetch me the security guards. Tell them to get this man out of here. He is just an asshole. Don't listen to his nonsense," the principal gave his words immediately.
Greenwood exploded at hearing those words. He reached out his fist and prepared to give him a punch. Amber was frightened by his gesture, so she stopped him right away, "Don't do that. If you have something to say, just say it."
Greenwood got even more furious at seeing Amber. She didn't come home last night and told him that she was on duty. But now, it seemed that she had been with the stupid principal the whole night!
Fed by his indignation, Greenwood slapped her hard across the face, twice. Amber was beaten to the ground.
She didn't come to her senses for several seconds because of the shock and the pain.
"Where did you gain your courage to come here? You damned bitch! Tell me, where were you and what did you do last night?"
She didn't do anything unfaithful to him last night. She had stayed inside the school to keep guard of the third-year students who lived in the dormitories inside the school. With the college entrance examination approaching, some students would stay up at night to study for the exam. The school had assigned teachers to keep them safe, and Amber took that task, for her money was running low.
She could earn extra one thousand if she stayed to keep an eye on these students two days a week. Amber had asked the principal to give her that assignment. She could leave at one or two o'clock in the morning when all the students had left classrooms. She could then sleep at the teacher's dormitory. It was a really good bargain. She basically did nothing for some money.
Now that Greenwood had known about her affair with the principal, he probably wouldn't buy her explanation. Words would fail to restore her reputation!
"Honey, what are you talking about? Don't listen to what others say. They are trying to alienate us. There is nothing between me and the principal, "Amber said in an uneasy voice as she stood up.
She was afraid of the scandal been exposed. If their affair was known to the public, she couldn't stay at the school any longer, let alone teach the students. Her image in their eyes would be totally ruined.
"So... what you are saying is that you have nothing to do with the principal, right?" Greenwood blurted a question.
"Yes, that's exactly what I meant. Darling, you know me. I have given you all my money, haven't I? It is you whom I love. How could I cheat on you?"
After rising to her feet, Amber held onto one of Greenwood's arms. Judging from his tone, she figured he just had a sneaking suspicion which was not supported by any hard evidences.
She had to quell his anger at present, or else she would be publicly humiliated.
But contrary to her expectation, Greenwood shoved her away. His face was darkened with fury. "Then, perhaps you could explain to me what this is. I have trusted you. But you have let me down. You even slept with another man. You whore! I want a divorce!" Greenwood took out a photo from his pocket and threw it toward Amber.
She picked it up and looked at it. Her heart sunk at the glimpse of it. It was the same photo she had seen before. Who gave it to him? Who was plotting against her? Whoever did that must have hated her so bad. Why else would that person do such a thing? In that photo, Amber and the principal were half naked, their bodies intertwined. Surely, any man could tell that they were doing it. She couldn't undo what she had already done!
The principal also saw the picture, but he calmed himself down and told Greenwood, "It may be photoshoped. Why don't you trust your own wife? I am the principal of this school. I would never do such thing! You'd better go. I'll have someone look into it. Your reputation will not be sullied. I promise you."
Greenwood sneered at his words. If he hadn't done the paternity test, he would have bought the principal's words about someone trying to frame them.
