A vampire's Choice

Chapter 20

Staying up so late has finally caught up with Lisa as the knock on the door pulled her from her dreamless sleep. Her curiosity and spying were biting her in the ass.

"Time to wake up, sleeping beauty,” a man's voice announced from behind the closed door, followed by more knocking.

Easing upright, Lisa swiped her unruly hair back, the sweat from the night making them cling to her forehead. The blanket dropped down as she moved back and rested her head against the headboard. Suddenly the knocking intensified, irritating the throbbing in her head.

"I'm up," Lisa yelled, making the ruckus stop. Instantly, she felt terrible for whoever was trying to wake her up, and she moved to apologize, but the sound of leaving footsteps stopped her. Resting her back against the headrest, she let out a deep huff, angry at herself for the way she acted. The lack of quality sleep made her irritated and plus the fact that she was in an unknown house, surrounded by werewolves and a vampire.

Closing her eyes, Lisa replayed the scene from last night. Sleep had evaded her as the knowledge that a mutated werewolf was trying to kill her fresh on her mind. The house had been dead, the moments of peace godsend until she had heard voices coming from outside. They were muffled and soft, but the curious woman in her needed to investigate, so she had left the comfortable bed to head to the window. The only light source was the moon, but it had been enough. Sitting beneath the trees at the edge of the open field, was two people. Her heart sank as she recognized them, Roger and Vanessa. The vampire who she might love and the werewolf who tried to kill her. Being human made her unable to listen to their conversation, but the fast turn of a head in her direction was a clue. Somehow Roger had known she was watching them, and as their eyes had met, the shock made her let go of the partially opened curtain. Her heartbeat doubles in speed thinking about being caught, scaring her back into bed. As the adrenaline wore off, a heaviness grabbed her eyelids and fell into a welcomed rest.

Only, she was still tired. There were no dreams for once, but something in her felt wrong. She had slightly woken up for a second as coldness had wrapped around her but soon forgot about it as she lost consciousness.

Lisa shot open her eyes, scanning the room for any sign of entry. The voice inside her screamed something had happened, but there was no sign of anything. Pushing her doubts back with a shake of the head, Lisa sighed as she threw the warm blanket away, the fresh air hitting her bare legs. With all the madness from the previous day, she had forgotten to grab her bag, forced to sleep in panties and the worn shirt. Pushing down on the mattress and straightening herself, the muscles protested the sudden movement. Reaching towards the ceiling, Lisa stretched her body, enjoying the slight pain. Dropping her arms and cracking her neck, she moved to the door and opened it, only leaving an opening big enough for one eye. A black bag perched against the wall, and relief washed over as Lisa recognized the bag. Slightly opening the door further, she shot her arm out to grab the handle, yanking it back fast. With safety behind the closed door, she dropped the bag on the bed, unzipping it to grab fresh clothes. Jeans, a plain t-shirt, and boots were her go-to.

Wrapped in a towel with water still dripping from her recently washed hair, Lisa dried herself off before wrapping the towel around her hair. When she was dressed, the towel from her head dropped onto the bed she had made and walked back into the bathroom. It made her wonder how big the house must indeed be if there each room had its bathroom. However, her curious nature surfaced again while she pulled her damp hair into a tight ponytail, making a silent promise to explore this house and the surrounding grounds. Having just learned about the existence of werewolves was weird, but the need to know more of them was more significant.

With a final glance and approval of her appearance, Lisa exited the room, shutting the door behind her. With a look to the left and then to the right, and no idea where she was, Lisa set out to the right, following the path she had heard her alarm clock walk earlier. Pictures plastered the walls as she followed the path, hundreds of smiling faces looking at her. Their happiness made her smile, but with no time, she could not fully enjoy them. Finally, stairs came into view and since she was on the second floor, going down was probably the right path. Before reaching the ground, a delightful squeal erupted behind her, giving her enough time to move to the side. Small children burst to pass her, moving too fast to watch them. Their bodies disappeared into a room, and with no idea where to go, she followed.

The smell of bacon waft through the air, tickling her nose. Following the delicious scent led her back to the table and room from the night before. Only now the seriousness was replaced by laughter. Familiar and new faces filled the seats as people spoke and ate, reaching over each other for more food. Then, the same or a maybe different group of kids rushed past her, almost knocking her over.

"That is enough. I said no running in the house,” a beautiful voice said.

Lisa looked up to find the source but stopped in her tracks. Rising from a seat was a gorgeous woman. Shiny brown hair piled high on her head with a few escaped tendrils framing her face. Making eye contact, Lisa felt mesmerized by her hazel eyes, the brown glistering in the light as a big smile brightened her aura. Trying not to look but failing miserably, the people around the table watched as Ruby walked over to Lisa and grabbing her into a hug.

The sudden act of kindness shocked Lisa. All she could do was stand there and enjoy the unexpected hug. Ruby finally pulled back, her smile even more extensive.

"Welcome to the packhouse. My name is Ruby, and I am the Luna."

"I...uh... my name is Lisa."

"I know, dear. We have all heard so much about you."

Lisa was confused by the terminology and did not know what Luna meant, but seeing the group tense up when Ruby hugged her, must mean she is important. A soft hand took hold of her to gently pull her towards the table, with Lisa's feet following automatically. Two empty chairs were open as Ruby dropped into the one, motioning to the other. "Please, sit down and enjoy some breakfast. It is to die for." Ruby bend her neck to look down as she rubbed her stomach, "I know you love it."

Sitting down next to Ruby, Lisa realized the woman was pregnant, the flowy shirt hiding her condition, set for a small pump. "Congratulations." Lisa said with a smile, "How far along are you?"

Ruby held a protective hand on her stomach as she looked up at Lisa. "Only a couple of months, but he, or she, is already strong."

"That is the future Alpha for you.” Someone said, and the whole table burst into cheers.

It felt like she was interrupting a special moment and was about to stand up when a deep voice spoke behind her.

"I see you finally managed to get up."

Turning to look around, Lisa came face to face with Roland as he walks towards her. Putting two and two together, she realizes he must have been the one she had screamed at this morning, and with his path aimed at her, fear grabbed her but vanished as soon as he smiled, not at her but Ruby. His arms wrapped around her middle as he bends down, placing a kiss on her lips before straightening himself and smirking in her direction.

"It was you this morning." Lisa's cheeks turned red as shame washed over her, "I am so sorry for what I said."

Roland let out a deep chuckle. “No need. We all get grumpy sometimes."

Wishing the earth could swallow her up, Lisa dropped her shoulders into the chair, but Ruby will have non of it as she grabbed a plate of scrambled eggs and waved it in front of Lisa's nose. They smelled delectable, and as if on cue, her stomach growled.

"Have some breakfast. We don't want to hurt the chef's feelings."

It was all the invitation she needed as she dug in. Roland gave her a final smile before placing a kiss on his wife's head and left the room. Lisa was too preoccupied with the feast before her to notice, or the pair of black eyes from the door focused on her.

After a filling breakfast and an exciting conversation, Lisa and Ruby had set out on an adventure. A walk around the house and grounds did both ladies wonder and given them some one-on-one time. Ruby had finally explained what Luna meant and how the leadership dynamic worked. Lisa had been in awe, eager to hear more stories. As they made their way around the property, meeting most of the pack, Ruby had told her backstory, making Lisa realize her bad history was nothing compared to the hell Ruby must have gone through. Sometimes the monster under the bed was not supernaturals but humans.

With a blanket in hand, the two women enjoyed the sun as they lay on the soft grass, both taking turns in unburdening their emotions, all the while having an extra pair of eyes on them.

Since he woke up, Roger had been eager to see his mate again, to hold her in his arms, but he was too late. So instead, he opted to watch from afar, enjoying the view of her behind as they moved along the grounds. The trees were his hideout as they lay in the sun. The warm rays focused a spotlight on Lisa, making her even more gorgeous. Kids played close to the house as their parents went about their daily chores. Now and then, he could feel cold daggers on the back of his neck as some pack members glared him down, but no one was saying anything. He knew they objected to a vampire in their mists but will not move to do something about it. So, Roger just ignored them as he admired Lisa's blond hair, free from bindings and currently spread out around her face, the sun developing the already light hair.

"Since we are alone, you can be honest with me.” Their voices filtered across the field, his heightened senses picking it up as if they were right next to him. "What do you think about Roger?"

His name drew him ultimately in making Roger turn his attention and gaze from the house and pack, too entire focus on the pair. He was inquisitive about how she felt, wondering if his feelings are returned. Sure, he does not fully believe Lisa to be his mate, but there was no denying the sexual attraction between them.

"I don't know, to be honest." Lisa let out a sigh before continuing, "Merely days ago, the existence of vampires was a myth, and now I am apparently a mate to one. Whatever that means."

Ruby glanced at Lisa before closing her eyes and turning her face towards the sun, soaking up the warmth. "You are preaching to the choir. We are so much alike. I went through those emotions. The confusion, the attraction. I get it, but I think I can help."

"How?" Lisa asked.

"I told you my story and Roland and I's history, but what I did not mention was I had been a human when we met."

Lisa shot up and twisted to face Ruby, who was still lying with her eyes closed, a slight smirk edged on her mouth.

Roger's ears also perked up. He met the pair briefly before and even went on a hunt for Vanessa together, but Roger did not know their history.

"Please lay back down, and I will tell you." Ruby peeked through her barely open eyes to watch as Lisa dropped back down, her eyes glued to the wolf.

"Happy?" Lisa joked when she was flat against the earth.

"Very."

Roger chuckled at the she-wolf. She was a feisty one, and he would bet they could be great friends.

"Long story short, I was a wolf literally hiding in a human body. The assassin's group covered up the truth, especially from me, and meeting Roland had triggered the change. You know, the first time we met, I tried to kill him, and do you know how he responded? By kissing me."

Lisa let out a laugh. “No."

"Yes, ma'am, he did. I distracted him by kicking his crown jewels to escape. But being the Alpha that he is, days later, he tracked me down and kidnapped me."

"Sounds familiar." Lisa torted.

"Do not take it personally. Roger and Roland might be two different species, but the alphas in them are the same. The urge to conquer their mates is strong, which sounds scary but believe me, you will love it."

"I doubt it."

Ruby turned to face Lisa, resting her head in her palm, concern on her face. "Has he hurt you?"

Roger tensed up, afraid of what the answer might be. If he hurt her, it was not intentional, but the damage would be done. The tree felt brought beneath his palms as he grabbed on, his strength splitting the wood.

"No, no. Nothing like that. I was angry at being taken, but I see now it was for my own good, considering a monster is after me. It is just how he makes me feel. That is what scares me."

"How do you mean?" Then, glad that Lisa was not hurt, Ruby relaxed and dropped back.

"Being an orphan, I don't tend to make friends, especially boyfriends, and my interaction with men is, as you say, limited."

A bellowing laugh spilled from Ruby, making Lisa sit up and face her. "It is not funny."

Ruby joined her as she sat up and placed a hand on her leg, squeezing lightly. "I wasn't laughing at your lack of sexual life; I was laughing at how truly the same we are. You see, I was also a virgin when Roland and I met."

Lisa's cheeks turned into ripe tomatoes with the mention of the virgin. “That is not what I meant."

"Darling, there is nothing to be ashamed of." Ruby's hand left her leg and moved to lift Lisa's dropped face as she tried to hide it.

"I know. but people tend to look at you funny when you say you are a virgin, especially at my age."

The breath Roger was holding vanished as Lisa admitted her status. When Ruby had said that word first, he knew it could not be accurate. Lisa was gorgeous, and surely human men have tried. But no, it just came from her own lips. Suddenly the sun became hotter as his clothes felt tighter. The way he had spoken to her, the teasing, hell, even when they kissed. She was inexperienced, and here he was throwing himself at her. No matter she was scared of him.

"Has he tried to, you know, touch you?"

Lisa's red cheeks turned darker as she replayed all the times in her head the words he had whispered. She was too ashamed to admit that she had loved it, especially discovering a new part of her, but to say it out loud was wrong.

"I take that as a yes. And did you like it?"

Roger leaned closer, eager to hear her response. The hand holding the tree dug deeper as his fingers pierced the bark as he tried to control himself. Listening to her sweet voice as she spoke about sex made him hard, as the need to thrust himself into her warm, wet flesh overrode all other senses.

Did she like it? Of course, she did. But that was something she would not admit.

Ruby knew the answer and understood her silence, so she laid back down and closed her eyes, leaving Lisa to her thoughts.

Thoughts about all the time Roger have touched her, the heat that would bloom inside. The kissing she had craved and hoped would never end. The wetness he had drawn from her. The memories replayed in her head, making her sweat as the temperature rose, and not from the sun. Shifting into a comfortable position let loose the wetness that had formed between her legs. The shift made her pants rub against her clit, releasing a burst of pleasure. A scream choked in her throat as she remembered the woman next to her. Opening her eyes, Lisa saw an empty blanket. Ruby was gone, but she was not alone.

Sparks suddenly burst from her arms as fingers curled around her skin, the contact flaming the heat in her pants. Warm breath brushed her ear as Roger whispered. "This is not the time or place."

Being so close to him while aroused made her forget her surroundings, and she dropped her head back onto his shoulder, leaning in closer to him. The movement sparked another wave of pleasure to burst from her as she let out a soft moan.

"You are going to be the death of me."

The alluring scent of her arousal crashed into Roger as he held onto her, his member stiff and pleading to be let free, but the sound of others around made him stop. Even though he needed to rip her pants off and shove his face between her legs, licking her sweet nectar.

A hard object pushed into her back, and on instinct, Lisa reached behind her to grab it. A deep groan burst out next to her ear as she wrapped her fingers around him, intrigued by what she felt. Unfortunately, movies and magazines did not prepare her well enough for the real thing.

Roger's hand shot to her neck and softly squeezed while he spoke. "If you do not stop now, I will throw you down on this blanket and fuck you until you beg for more."

Lisa was shocked by his words but yet her body betrayed her as she let out a moan, the image clear in her mind. Her fingers grabbed him tighter as Roger kissed her neck, which she gladly permitted by exposing more of her skin.

"Don't make threats you can't keep.” Lust made her voice deep and slow.

"Don't test me."

Roger dragged his fingers down her exposed arm to prove his point, leaving a trail of sparks. Lisa's breath deepened as she watched his hand move lower and lower before he roughly grabbed her. Her loud moan was broken as Roger clasped a hand over her mouth while his other hand rubbed between her legs. Her wetness soaked through her pants as her body demanded more. Without knowing it, Lisa's hips began thrusting, forcing his hand to rub up and down her clit. The friction built, the pleasure great as her head dropped down and her eyes were rolling back. Roger felt like he was about to burst, but he wanted this. He needed to make her come and see the pleasure in her face. To do what no man has ever done.

Lisa was so close as she rocked harder. The hand on his member moved as she grabbed his leg for support; everything was so overwhelming. But it ended too soon.

"Roger," someone shouted from the house. "Nix is here."

Without warning, he let go of her between the legs, and she let out a whimper. Her chest rose and dropped frantically as breathing became difficult, with Roger replicating her. Their loud breathing filled the silence, made Lisa forget for just a second about what had just happened. She had almost come in broad daylight, in front of everyone. All because of him.

"We need to go," Rogers stated between deep breaths.

Abruptly, Lisa pushed him away as she got to her feet and straightening her crumpled clothes. Roger was confused as she gave him a death glare before walking away. He watched her go and knew she needed time to accept what had just happened. But from the reaction he just saw, she better know sooner rather than later that he would claim her.
