A Stranger in the Night

Chapter 19

Alex's POV

Draven has been gone for some time now and I was becoming worried. I didn't like the thought of him going out with the Lycans and doing a hunt for whoever attacked Jess but it needed to be done. Luna was just as much at risk as she was and I wanted her to be safe. I needed her to be safe. The last several days I haven't been able to leave the House or see to any of my regular work. Meredith was proving more of a handful than we first predicted and it was driving me nuts having her here and not being able to see Luna. I paced my room probably more than 100 times...he should have been back by now. Claude and Nerine had checked in on me several times but no word from Draven. I hope he's not out partying instead of doing what I had told him to. The waiting was excruciating. I needed to know how she was but I couldn't contact her. My phone I organised had disappeared and since then I had no way of contacting her apart from messages through Draven, so I'm not even sure if she is getting them.

I missed her. I missed her scent. The way her hair fell flawlessly. Her sparkling eyes in the moonlight and I would do anything to bring her back to me soon.

I heard footsteps hastily approaching my door. Claude burst through, looking as if he had just run a marathon. "Master! He has returned.". I nodded and began making my way past him, before he grabbed me. "Master, something has happened!". His face grimaced as he tried to hold me back from leaving the room, but I pushed him away and made my way to the main hall. 2 servants were attending Draven when I reached there, but there was no Luna in sight. I went straight past him to the front walkway and looked out over the carparks and the gardens but she wasn't here. I turned around and stormed towards Draven. The look of remorse on his face caused me to stop in my tracks. I grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and lifted him off the ground. "What happened to her? Where is she?". I shook him and demanded he told me what had happened. His head sunk lower and he began to mumble. "Speak up Draven!" I shook him again hard! Draven looked up at me, still remorseful, "We need to talk in private....".

"What do you mean they were attacked?". Draven sat on the lounge beside the bed. His room only lit by a few candelabras and the flames from the fire. Even though the room was dark, I could still see the anguish on his face. He couldn't even lift his head to talk to me. "Exactly that. They were attacked. Lucas and I had left to follow up on the leads we had...and they were attacked whilst we were gone...". The thought of Luna being harmed felt like my heart was being ripped out and crushed infront of me. "What....what happened?". I hated asking but I needed to know. "Vincent....he brought some of the Halflings and attacked them. Told them he was there "doing a job". The Halflings that attacked them are now dead...Vincent is being held for questioning, to find out who sent him...".

I was furious, no, I was beyond furious. I wanted blood and the demon in me did too. I could feel the heat and fire within me begin to blaze and I watched as the flames erupted from my hands and covered my arms. "Hey! Don't set my room on fire!" Draven yelled at me. "Jess? Luna? Did they survive?". I felt a lump creep up in my throat so large, that I could not swallow it....I waited for Draven to answer me. It took him a few moments but he finally lifted his head and looked at me. "Yes...just...". I dropped to the floor. Relief overwhelming me. "But I need to tell you something....". I spun around to look at Draven. "All is good brother. Jess and Luna survived. We have someone in custody who can lead us to who started this whole mess. What else matters?". Draven pulled an awkward face, I could tell he was holding something back from me. "Yeah, well it's a doozey.".

Draven explained how he and Lucas' pack showed up in a nick of time and saved them from being killed. He then went on to explain how close to death Jess got and that he had no choice other than to give her his blood. I presumed that he had given her enough to begin a transformation but was unsure at this stage, seeing how vague he was being. He then went on to say that he found something out about Luna but didn't know if what he saw really happened. He believed she had powers but that's impossible as only immortals have powers as he describe and she definitely wasn't an immortal. "So where is Luna and Jess now? Don't tell me you left them at the apartment? That place would be a disaster zone right now and completely unsafe! I can't believe you would be stupid enough to leave them there.". I felt like tearing him apart for such a decision. "Calm down! No. I am not stupid enough to leave them there and Lucas thought the same.". I winced at Lucas' name being used so much in conversation lately. I didn't trust Lucas or his pack and knowing they were involved made me very uneasy. "So where are they?". I was becoming frustrated with Draven. I knew he was avoiding telling me what was going on. "Well....first things first....Jess is here.". Holy hell! Was this idiot stupid! Meredith would find her and if he was worried about her before, he should be petrified for her now. "Why Draven! How could you be so stupid!". Draven jumped up and pushed me against the wall. "I had to! I had no choice. She would have died and I am not willing to give her up yet. She drank enough of my blood to trigger a transformation and I am going to see it through with her. Nerine is currently taking care of her in the servants chambers and all have been instructed not to mention this to anyone apart from Silvano, you and me.". I could see the heartache in his face. He really didn't want her to transform but literally was backed into a corner. We just had to be careful now because if the heads of the clans found out that Draven had a triggered transformation, there would be a price to pay.

"OK....ok....so what about Luna? Where is she? Did you bring her here too?". Draven's head sunk lower again. He released his hold on me and walked over to the fire, watching it's flames dance around. "No. She's not here. She refused to come.". It was as if time stood still. What did he mean she refused to come. "Where the hell is she then?". I flew to his side, my hand gripping tightly into his arm. "Stop it. Its' not my fault. She went with Lucas and his pack.". He brushed my hand off and pushed me aside. I couldn't help it this time. The flames coated my entire body by the time I realised my rage was getting out of control. "Hey flameboy! Calm down. She decided to go there on her own accord. Said she didn't think you cared about her and wanted to stay with the pack. She also gave me these to give to you.". Draven hesitantly handed me a bag. It was full of gifts I had given her and my coat I had put over her one night as she fell asleep. My heart broke. I was lost for words. Why did she give these back? Draven looked up at me, I could feel his eyes burning into my head. "Because you broke your promise.".

I spent the next several hours in my room. Contemplating how to get to Luna. I couldn't just walk right up into the packs domain without causing a fuss. Lucas and I haven't always gotten along and we've had a fair share of disagreements over the years. I wish I knew where my phone was but there was not much point now. She had given back the phone amongst the items in the bag. When I made the realisation, I opened up the phone that I had given her, and had a look at the message section. She had messaged me every day, messages that I had never gotten. Some were short just saying hope you have a good day, others told me about her day and what had been happening. If I didn't feel bad before, I definitely did now. I had to keep my distance from her because of Meredith and our parents arriving a couple days ago. Keeping them entertained and not questioning me every time I was going somewhere was hard and now I wished I had just done what I wanted to. How could she forgive me now? I promised to be there whenever she needed me, to protect her and keep her safe and now here she almost died and I wasn't there. Lucas was. I decided that I was going to risk it. When possible, I would get Draven to take me to Luna. I would make arrangements for Silvano, Eligio and Marco to keep our parents and Meredith entertained and I would go seek her out. I needed to explain to her what's been going on and to apologise.
