A Song of Askaldenfirsts and Dragons. Part eight: The New Queen

Chapter 8: Greyskuggies

The two hooded elves watched, hiding behind the trees.

“She is gone, brother, the one that cannot be eaten,” the elf female said.

“Yes, and the fire dragon killed creature before that,” the elf male said.

“They called it a ghost.”

“Yes.”

“Look, brother, the dragon flies away, leaving defenseless food. I’m hungry.”

“We must wait a little longer; the fiery one has not flown far.”

“But I’m hungry!” and with these words she turned into smoke and flew toward the group of ermirians.

Her brother transformed too and followed her. The fire dragon flew away, shouting, “Queen Nulara!”

At first, the sister pierced the dwarf, then the two northerners, and the brother wanted to pierce the swarthy one, but failed, then he tried the girl without one arm and failed too.

“Sister, try these,” he took the form of an elf.

The ermirians shouted, fussed, and tried to attack the smoke. The female smoke took the form of an elf.

“Are you ghosts too?” sister asked, turning to the big-eyed woman with almond-shaped eyes. But she only tried to lunge with her sword, and the sister took the form of a shadow-smoke again. Her brother did it too.

The brother and sister ate the dwarf to the bone, the two northerners, and the northerner woman who had a child. While the greyskuggies ate, the other four ermirians ran to the city gates.

Suddenly, from somewhere above, a giant shadow covered the brother and sister, and it was a fiery dragon! And he spewed an enormous stream of fire, the brother had time to take elf-shape and jump, but the sister did not, and her essence was incinerated.

“No!” the greyskuggie roared, he turned into smoke and flew toward the city gates. Just as those four ran up to a healer, and the greyskuggie pierced his flesh. The four continued to run. The dragon flew after the smoke, the greyskuggie turned behind the house, and the dragon blew the roof with fire, the wooden house not just catching fire, but shattering into pieces as if from an explosion. But the greyskuggie turned into another house. “Revenge! Revenge! Revenge!” the greyskuggie hissed.

Greyskuggie flew, but there was no one there, and he thought that he and his sister had been watching the dragon and the ghost for too long; they should have flown south, away from the frost. “South! The brothers of fire one are sleep there, there is food and there is revenge! Revenge! Revenge! Sister!”

The dragon wanted revenge, too, and the greyskuggie understood that, and the dragon acted just as smoke wanted, the fiery one was destroying the capital.

Greyskuggie circled several houses, taunting the dragon, and then he saw those four again, who could not be eaten, and he tried again to kill them and nothing succeeded. Smoke decided that it was time to fly south, eat thoroughly, and to think of a plan of revenge.

And then, out of nowhere, a dragon appeared right in front of him. Greyscuggie felt a scorching fire and knew he was going to die…
