Chapter 20: Dombard
“Eolarnel, what kind of a name is that?” Dombard lamented to himself. “We need to find those oldenmessers who woke up the dragon and stuff their guts into their filthy, decrepit throats!”
Dombard could not fully read all the thoughts of his vessel, past, present and future flashed in fragments, because the elf’s mind resisted, although at the same time it was suppressed. But the ghost didn’t care, what could an arqilunian know that Dombard didn’t know? Until now, the ghost could not understand why he couldn’t possess Edelmer’s body? What’s so special about snunorf?
No one knows how many centuries or thousands of years ghosts lived in the Belt of Twilight, it is not for nothing that the Belt of Twilight had such a name in ancient snunorf language, ‘Ondargardmalbergen’, which translated as “the evil mountains that guard the dead sky.” But the even more ancient name “Spjöckelsensweg” was translated as “the Wall of Ghosts”. The ghosts were from the ancient snunorf bloodlines, and they lived here in the mountains with the oldenmessers. Anyone who tried to make their way through the mountain range found themselves under the influence of the ghosts’ magic. When the ghosts needed, they possessed the creatures and performed various kinds of actions. But the awakening of the dragon and the destruction of the star changed everything. The peaks of the mountains were no longer shrouded in darkness. And now it has become easy for ghosts to go to the north.
And some oldenmessers, who left the mountains a long time ago, settled in more comfortable places, gradually lost part of their knowledge, part of the past, part of their history, and even began to invent new legends for themselves. They remembered that they needed to return here, but they no longer remember why. And only a few oldenmessers remained to live on the Wall of Ghosts.
