A Savage Life

Chapter 4

Ok, I was hopelessly lost. This place was a maze and I managed to find my way to what seemed to be an aquarium, which isn’t that bad given the fact that I loved to fish. I had seen large fish that looked out of this world swam in big ten thousand gallon tanks. There was also a list of endangered species ad a list of extinct species plastered onto every wall, glass, concrete slab at eye level, as if to remind you, “We evil humans are killing these guys, so be grateful you get to see them.”

The Extinct poster had typed on it: Sharks, Polar Bears, Wales, Dolphins, Pelicans, Sea Hawks, Krill, Zooplankton, Squid, Octopus, Walrus, Seal, Penguins, Orcas, Jellyfish, Lobster and Stone Fish. On the Endangered poster were Frogs, Newts, Seagulls, Crocodiles, Ducks, Eagles, Rhinoceroses, Foxes, Swordfish, Spider Crabs, Japanese Maquaques, Tuna, Laternfish, Anglerfish, Sardines, Coral, Minnows, Alligators, Lions, and Clown Fish. And half of the list barely made sense. Then on ANOTHER posted list below the Extinct and Endangered lists gave a very long list of Introduced Species and Experimentally Advanced Species.

I wondered about what could have possibly been introduced. A type of water owl? A large Angler? Ooh, maybe some bigger Red Snapper. I could stay all day salivating about it, but I better get going before the Creepy Smile Gang catches up to me.

I was walking through the genetically altered fish section, taking in the weirdest of weird sights and sounds. I saw a fox with fins and a flying fish with fox ears. There was what looked to be a bear/dolphin hybrid, across from it was a crab-like creature with amphibian skin on it’s shell, fur on it’s legs, and would slither out it’s tongue like a snake that would follow me and gawk at me curiously with it’s crab eyes. Oh, and I was right about water owls. They moved their wings and taloned feet like that of a human underwater, their large eyes beckoning me to stare back at them and go, “Hoo. Hoo.”

As wildly cool as this may be, this is what the future generations are doing? Somebody take me back to 1986! This is madness. Sharks with swords for tails, Lantern fish that had squid tentacles. And then I looked over to the breeding tank and saw more of The Creepy Crew forcing different species to breed. Oh my goodness! They’re forcing them to interbreed. That poor cat was being forced to mate with a bat with gills.

I ran as fast as I could past Electric Eels with turtle fins that swam as far as the tank would let them, and they were fighting viciously against the glass to attack me, making enough racket to alert all of Chicago on a busy day. I also seen a lot more creepy creatures along the way as I dashed madly from one direction to another- wolves with frog eyes, crocodiles with duck beaks and laden with platypus-like features, ducks with four eyes and hawk talons, jellyfish with wide mouths and large, humanoid eyes, and a whole lot more where that came from.

This was beginning to add up for me up for me. The future was experimenting on humans, animals, and warping people’s minds! All with an obnoxious grin. I had to get out of here! This wasn’t the future, this was a mad house! I have to get out. I leave now. But I also knew that I probably wasn’t going to leave this place without a fight on my hands. Well, let’s get started. I think as I crack my knuckles.
