A Pinch of Cinnamon

Chapter I Love You(s)

Spencer’s POV

That beeping is getting really annoying. My eyes are so heavy, I can’t open them yet to find where the noise is coming from and obliterate the annoying object.

Why am I so tired? Fuck. Everything is sore. What did I do yesterday?

“Please open your eyes Spencer. Baby, please.” I can hear Nick’s worried voice floating around the room. What on earth is he talking about?

“Jayden called me daddy.” My heart stuttered. “I was so surprised but with everything going on I could barely think about it. I love that little guy. He is my son even though he’s not my blood. We may not have been together long, but you guys are my family. We need you to wake up baby. It’s been three days.” My stomach clenched at hearing this man claim Jayden as his son. At the same time, he sounds so...... broken.

Wait.....did he say I’ve been out for three days?!

I struggle to open my eyes, but they seem to be sewn shut. I want to. I need to see him.

The events I went through are now flooding my brain. The memories causing my heart rate to accelerate. The annoying beeping speeding up.

“Spence?” Nick’s voice sounds closer as he leans towards me, obviously hearing the change.

“You can do it, baby. Open those beautiful eyes.”

I’m trying Nick. I want to see you and I need to see my baby boy. I hope he’s okay. I can’t believe he had to go through all this.

I could feel warm tingles spread up my hand as Nick grasped it, squeezing. I focused all my energy and tried to squeeze his hand in return.

I feel like an infant right now. I have no strength as I try and squeeze my fingers against his.

But he felt it.

“Yes! That’s it sweetheart! Oh my god.” I can hear a catch in his voice as he mumbles the last part.

Finally, I’m able to crack my eyes open to see the love of my life, openly weeping. His body is shaking as he sobs in relief and tears streak out of his eyes. His eyes adamantly locking onto mine despite the waterworks.

My heart hurts seeing him like this. He looks awful. Disheveled, scruff growing over his face, his clothes are rumpled, and he has huge bags under his eyes. His hair is messy like he’s been constantly running his hand through it. He looks like he’s been awake the whole 3 days I’ve supposedly been out.

I smile weakly at him.

“Oh my god, baby. You scared us so much!” He grabs my face between his hands and kisses me as gently, but as firmly as he can. He continues to kiss me all over my face, being careful of the bruises I can feel littering my face.

“I love you so much.” He murmurs between kisses.

I swear I stopped breathing.

He loves me? Like for real?

Sensing my thoughts, Nick pulls back to look into my eyes.

“I love you. So very much.” He leans his forehead against mine while still looking at me. A tear trickles from his eye landing in my cheek. “I love your smile. I love your blush. I love the way you snore in your sleep.” I glare at him. “I love how amazing you are with Jayden. I love how passionate you are about the farm. I love your beautiful, sexy moans when I’m having my way with you.” My cheeks immediately heat up as he smirks at me.

He brushes his knuckles along my cheekbones as he tilts his head, gazing at me softly. “That blush. I love that blush so fucking much.” He murmurs. “I love how you can eat more tacos than I can. I love how much my family loves you. Honestly, I think they love you more than me.” I giggle weakly. “I love every fucking thing about you. Mind, body, and soul.” He kisses me again. Tears were now leaking from my own eyes at hearing his heartfelt words. “I was so afraid I would never get to tell you that. I thought I was going to lose you.” His voice cracks again.

I raise a shaky hand to cup his cheek. He huffs out a broken laugh and turns his head to kiss my palm.

“I love you, too.” I whisper. My voice soft, but strong. Honestly, I’ve probably loved him from the first week we spent together.

His head snaps to mine as if he couldn’t possibly believe what I said. “I love you.” I repeat, making sure he sees how serious I am. I have never loved someone as I love him. Our connection scares me, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

“How are you feeling?” I look up at Nick, his face serious and I can see the pain in his eyes. My heart breaks at seeing him like this.

“I have to pee.” I whine and pout. It works and Nick starts laughing. His eyes wrinkling as his smile brightens his face. I hate seeing him sad.

“No, you don’t baby. You have a catheter in.” He chuckles. I shrug slightly.

“It got you to laugh.”

He pushes the call button for a nurse to let them know I’m awake.

“Oh, you’re awake!” A bright, radiant, very offending nurse walks in with a giant smile on her face. She is way to fucking chipper for me when I just barely woke up.

“Ok. Well let’s pull your catheter now that you’re awake, and you can try going to the bathroom when you have the urge, then I’ll let the doctor know you’re awake.”

God this is embarrassing and a little uncomfortable as she pulls the catheter.

After about 30 minutes, I really need to pee, so the nurse returns to help. I have a giant cast on my leg and I’m not allowed to walk. The nurse makes me wobble into the wheelchair.... okay, so maybe Nick just picked me up and placed me in it. Then she rolls me three feet into the bathroom where I wobble to the toilet and then back to the chair again. Nick was kind enough to lift me back into the bed when I was finished.

Once I was positioned and comfortable in bed, I scooted a bit off to the side and beckoned Nick to climb in with me while we waited for the doctor. I don’t need to ask him twice.

He carefully slides in beside me and wraps his arms around my waist. I lean back into him, finally relaxing.

“It’s been way to long since I’ve been able to hold you.” Nick mumbles, grazing my ear with his lips. An involuntary shiver runs through me. I sigh and snuggle back farther.

The door slides open and the doctor walks in after knocking. “Good evening, Miss Williams. How are you feeling today?”

I shrug a little. “Sore. And I have a headache.” He nods.

“That’s to be expected. Did your fiancé tell you about your injuries?”

Fiancé?

I felt Nick shift behind me uncomfortably. “No, we hadn’t gotten there yet.” He responds for me.

“Well, you have a small skull fracture, two broken ribs, and your leg is broken. We had to do surgery on your leg when you first got here. Other than that, you have bruises and scrapes.” Wow. That bull did more damage than I thought. “I want to keep you in hospital a few more days to monitor you progress, but then you should be ok to go home if you have constant supervision. I don’t mess around with head injuries.”

Great.

“I won’t be leaving her side.” Nick’s grip tightens on me. The doctor nods before checking my chart and leaving.

I crane my head back to look at Nick with a raised eyebrow.

“What?” His eyes are wide as if he just got caught stealing the last cookie.

“Your fiancé, huh?” I smirk at the blush that was rapidly filling his face.

Awe. Cute!

“Umm. Well, they weren’t going to let me see you if I wasn’t family.” Nick buries his face in my neck in embarrassment as I laughed.

“Is Jay ok?” Nick smiles sadly as I shuffle around to see him better. It takes a minute, each twist of my body shoots pain through my chest. I keep my pain off my face, so Nick won’t worry.

“He was scared and confused but he’s ok. He’s been asking when you will wake up. It’s late right now, so I will text my mom and he can come visit tomorrow.”

“He really called you Daddy?” Nick looked shocked for a minute, that I had heard him, before smiling and glancing at me hesitantly.

“Yeah. It’s that okay? I don’t want to overstep or anything, but he honestly feels like he is mine and I love him like he’s mine and—“I cut off Nick’s rambling by placing a burning, passionate kiss to his lips.

“I love you.” I whisper against his lips. “You are already more of a father to him than I could ever have imagined.”

“I love you, too.”
