Chapter 109

Angela’s POV

After witnessing Zack and Grace having a heated argument last night, I didn’t sleep afterwards. I wasn’t usually the type to bite my nails no matter the situation but i found myself biting my nails due to nervousness and anxiety.

The one person who saved me and I believed I could trust was busy liaising with the biggest enemy of my life last night just a few metres away from me. I took a deep breath and removed my finger from my mouth.

Being nervous wouldn’t help.

I needed to think of a way to escape this place. I wasn’t a damsel in distress waiting to be saved. I looked through the window and back to the bedsheet. An idea came to my head.

I removed the pillowcases as well as the bedsheet and went on to tie them together, hoping it’d be long enough to reach the ground. By the time I was done with the knot, it barely got to the middle. I removed the curtain as well, almost tearing it off from the curtain hanger out of desperation. Although it wasn’t as thick as the bedsheet, It still did the job perfectly well. I threw it down the window and it ended just a bit closer to the ground. With my height, I could manage to jump the rest without breaking a bone.

As I was about to climb on the window pane, I suddenly heard the door being unlocked. Quickly, I shoved the makeshift rope underneath the tiny bed and sat on the bed, pretending as if everything was fine. The door opened and Grace walked in.

She looked at me with a raised eyebrow. I stared at her blankly. I couldn’t even look at her twice. She disgusted me. The fact that she could be there talking to Zack so comfortably said a lot of things about her. Maybe she wasn’t immune to his charms as I’d thought.

“What do you think you’re doing?” She asked.

“Good morning to you too, Grace,” I replied. I ignored her words and acted ignorant so she wouldn’t suspect anything.

“Are you out of your mind or do you have a death wish?”

I shrugged. “I don’t understand what you mean by that,”

She heaved loudly and ran her finger through her hair in exasperation. “I know you aren’t stupid, Angela but this is way below your intelligence quotient. What do you think would happen if Ryker or one of his men walked in here and found

all the sheets in the room empty? Applaud you or maybe kill you,” She narrowed her eyes at me.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I responded stubbornly.

She walked to the window. “Did you think you were going to make it down alive?” Do you think your feet will touch that ground without Ryker’s men shooting you dead? Do you think you’ll walk out alive without getting harmed? Did you even use your head?”

“That’s a lot of questions, I don’t even know which one to answer,”

She glared at me.

“Where is it?”

“Where is what?”

“The stupid rope you made out of these sheets. The curtain, the bedsheet. We have to return them before someone barges in and kills you,”

Angrily, I pulled out the sheet from underneath the bed and threw it at her. She clicked her tongue before she began to untangle the sheets. She returned the curtain to its spot as well as the bedsheets and pillowcases.

“Now, you and I are going to walk out of here as if Ryker requested for you. Once we’re out of this room, you cannot look back or look too confident,”

I frowned. I heard her clearly but it took a few seconds for me to believe I was hearing exactly what I just heard.

“What are you talking about?”

“Like I said earlier, you aren’t stupid, Angela. What else do you think I’m talking about? We don’t have time. Get your ass up,”

I shook my head. There was no way I would plan an escape with Grace. I saw her with Zack. What if she dropped me off at the devil’s gate himself? What if this was a plot to get me to Zack? Why was she even helping me?

“I’m not leaving with you,” I answered.

“But you’ll prefer to jump to your death,” She pointed at the window.

I nodded. “I’ll rather do that than walk to my death along with you,”

She cocked her head slightly and stared at me with shock. “What!”

“I saw you last night with Zack right outside under that tree. How am I supposed to trust you? That bastard killed my sister and assaulted me right here,” She grabbed my shoulder. “Listen, I can’t stay around to start explaining to you the reason why I was with Zack last night because Ryker is on his way right now to get you and take you to God knows where. We have to leave right now for the

good of you and your pack. When we’re on the way. I’ll explain everything to you

“What if it’s too late by then?” I bit down on my tongue. I didn’t know I said that out loud.

She

gave me a tiny smile. “I swear on my life, Angela. I’m not taking you to Zack. If you could risk your life to jump out of that window, then give me that tiny bit of risk and trust me until we’re out of here

“Why are you helping me?” I asked another question.

She ignored my question and rather grabbed my hand. “We need to leave now and I’m sorry for what I’m about to do,”

The next thing I felt against my cheek was a sharp pang of pain. She slapped me suddenly grabbed me by the hair and looked at me apologetically.

“Scream,” She pleaded.

“What?” Everything happened within a breath I couldn’t even think straight. Why was she doing this to me?

“Scream, Angela. Please!” She called my name as if she’d known me for a long time and not just for the first time yesterday.

I screamed! Not once! Not twice!

The guard at the door rushed into the room and looked between Grace and I. Grace had already grabbed me by my collar while my palm was glued to my cheek. It fucking burned.

“What’s going on?”

Grace turned to me with disdain. “King Ryker requested for me to bring her but she was acting stubborn. I had to put her in her place,” She lied. “You wench! Who do you think you are?”

The guard stared at me with hatred.

“Take her away,” The guard instructed.

“Of course,”

Still holding on to my collar, Grace pulled me out of the room. I didn’t look back or act confident as she had told me. I kept on following her and acted stubborn at times earning a pretend glare from her.

Soon, we were out of the house. She had taken the back door and fortunately, no one was there. She removed her hand from me and signaled for me to follow her. There was a small door in the mighty fence surrounding the house. As soon as we were out of the door, a car was waiting for us. The windows were tinted black and that gave me another round of anxiety.

“Get in, Angela‘ I was reluctant. The last time I walked into a black–tinted car without checking it I found myself in Ryker’s den.

*Angela” She called out again.

I decided to trust her as she wanted. The door opened and I entered the car. I closed the door behind me and my eyes went to the driver. A deep frown etched on my face in recognition. I looked at Grace and looked back at the driver.
