A Life Debt Repaid novel (John and Cordy)

Chapter 32

Chapter 32

Ever since they met, John had never told Cordy about his family-only his name

"I am," he admitted regardless, and he asked, "When did you notice?"

"Just now," Cordy replied. "It's not that hard to notice. Your last name is Levine, you're a single dad, and there's your extravagance. The only thing that doesn't fit is..."

As John raised a brow, she finished, "You're better looking than the rumors say.

"You flatter me."

Cordy said nothing to that, but she was just spitting facts.

"I did not want to hide it for you," John said earnestly.

Cordy, however, did not mind-they were not close enough to have to tell each other everything.

In fact, she was just asking because Alan Levine's birthday was on the 17th, and she had been eager to find out why John had asked her to make time on that day.

"Well, there's this guy who keeps insisting that I'm a firefighter, and you might think that I'm deceiving you. That's why I planned to formally introduce myself on the 17th."

He spoke with a neutral tone, but the jibe in his words was unmistakable.

It was not hard for Cordy to figure out who he meant. "He's blind-always has been."

John chuckled, seemingly content with her opinion of Kyle.

"It's late, Ms. Sachs. Please retire soon, though I'm afraid I'll have to leave Dicky with you tonight."

Cordy nodded. "Bye, Mr. Levine."

After seeing him off, Cordy returned to her bed.

This was the first time there was someone else in her bed after so many years-it felt curious, and not repulsive at all.

Amidst the dim light, the sight of Richard's little face as he lay fast asleep left her feeling warmth over her

chest.

As the next morning arrived, Cordy made two portions of a very simple breakfast: toast, fried eggs, and

milk.

Richard happily ate, praising it even if she obviously burnt the eggs slightly, which left her beaming cheerfully

They had just finished breakfast when the doorbell rang.

Cordy opened the door to find Winston standing outside, a respectful expression on his face. "Good morning, Ms. Sachs. Master John has asked me to pick up Master Richard because he will be busy with a client today"

"Is he not attending kindergarten?" Cordy asked.

"Not since he's just returned to the country," Winston replied. "However, he will be attending grade school around July-Master John has already found a private school for his son."

Cordy said nothing.

She was just asking offhandedly-Winston did not have to tell her everything.

"By the way, these are Master Richard's clothes," Winston then said, presenting a huge box.

Cordy frowned. "He just needs one set, doesn't he?"

"Master John insisted on having more for the sake of convenience, in case Master Richard stays here. again. And aside from clothes, there are also other items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, and towels." Cordy wondered if she could actually refuse.

"May I come in to tidy up Master Richard's personal effects?"

*... Please," Cordy said gratefully.

"Oh," Wintson then remembered. "Here's a pair of loafers Master John had me prepare. Should I put it in the shoe cupboard?"

He showed her the pair of loafers, and Cordy pursed her lips but silently nodded.

When that was done, Winston entered with the box, helped Richard get changed, and then put his clothes. neatly into an empty spot in Cordy's wardrobe.

With that done, he said, "I shall be leaving with Master Richard now, since you have to go to work."

"Mommy..." Richard appeared reluctant to leave.

"I'll see you tomorrow," Cordy assured him, though she was reluctant to let the boy leave too.
