A Journey Within the Realm

Chapter 16: Dai Dies

For the past couple of nights, I have been staring at the moon here in the Undershadows. The moon every night is usually red and full, but, day by day, parts of the moon glowed more white. It was making me uneasy.

“My Queen, I have some urgent news,” Aneko said, appearing.

I sighed, “Is it good or bad?”

“The usual, Your Honor,” Aneko replied.

I walked over to my throne and sat down.

“Proceed,” I ordered.

“It appears the light mage defeated Commanders Dai and Cho,” Aneko said.

“Explain,” I said, annoyed.

“Well… it seems that the light mage used a new type of spell,” Aneko explained, “To tell you the truth, it was two spells. Both using lightning. One of the spells vaporized Commander Cho. Then, he ripped Commander Dai’s arms without his usual burning.”

“Is she here?” I asked.

“Yes, My Queen,” Aneko replied, “However, she is in a lot of pain.”

“Bring her to me,” I commanded.

“No bother. I’m here,” Commander Dai said, appearing.

I couldn’t believe my eyes. Dai’s arms were completely gone, just like Aneko said. However, her black blood was dripping from where her arms were.

“It didn’t make any sense,” Dai said, “He had no blood. He was dead. But, he could still fight and win. And, his eyes… first glowing white, then red.”

“Wait… what?” I asked, “Did you say that his eyes glowed red?”

Dai nodded.

“I see… then he still has an evil side,” I said, “But, it only appears when he is near death. There might be still a chance to beat him.”

“The only problem is that he still hates us even when he’s evil,” Dai corrected.

“True, however I can control it while you could not,” I corrected, “Now, begone!”

I snapped my fingers, turning Dai into a pile of ash. Suddenly, I heard a yelp from the doorway.

“Did you hear that, Aneko?” I asked.

“Yes, Ma’am,” Aneko answered.

“Go check it out,” I ordered.

Aneko bowed before she walked over to the doorway. Once there, she saw something on the ground. Picked it up, she returned to fill me in.

“Your Honor,” Aneko said, “I’m afraid someone was watching us. It appears it was my youngest sister, Solada. This was her favorite ribbon.”

Aneko handed me the ribbon. Interesting… it was the ribbon I had given her when she joined my commanders. This didn’t look good.

“It seems Solada has seen me killing off Commander Dai,” I explained, “After seeing that scene, she is now afraid for her life. My guess is that Solada is running away. And, if she is, she will probably head for that light mage.”

“What should we do, My Queen?” Aneko asked, worried.

“Send Commander Chiyo to watch the light mage and his friends,” I commanded, “Tell her to not attack them until she sees Solada.”

“I understand, Master,” Aneko replied.

“Now, go,” I ordered.

Aneko bowed as she disappeared. Once she was done, I got up and walked back to the window. I stared at the moon. Now, I understand why it’s glowing whiter. If I don’t do anything fast, I will soon be dead.
