Chapter 10: Hanako Reports Back
I paced back and forth in my throne room. Ever since I sent Hanako to kill that new light mage, I haven’t slept at all. Something feels unsettling to me.
“Shadow Aneko,” I yelled, “Come here!”
“You yelled, My Queen?” Aneko asked, appearing.
“Has Hanako returned?” I asked.
“I’m afraid not, Your Highness,” Aneko answered.
“I don’t like it, not in the least,” I said.
Suddenly, Aneko’s younger sister, Eun, appeared. Eun whispered something to Aneko before disappearing.
“My Leige,” Aneko began, “It appears that Hanako has returned.”
“Good,” I said, “Send her here.”
“Before I do,” Aneko replied, “I will need to fill you in on a slight change about Hanako.”
“Go on…,” I said.
“It seems she has no arms,” Aneko said.
“What!?!” I yelled, “Bring Hanako here this instant!!!”
“Right away, Your Grace,” Aneko replied, disappearing.
It only took Aneko five seconds to bring Hanako. Sure enough, Hanako was without her arms. It looked like they had been burned off.
“Speak, Hanako,” I commanded.
“I’m afraid the light mage beat us,” Hanako said.
“I can tell,” I replied, very angry, “What else!?!”
“Well… it seems the light mage is… ummm… a man,” Hanako answered.
“A man!?!” I yelled, “That’s impossible! I sealed away all the men! On top of that, no man has magical powers!”
“I believe his name is Randy Nelson,” Hanako continued.
“Nelson?” I repeated, “Where have I heard that name before?”
“He gave me a message to tell you, My Leige,” Hanako said, “’Be ready to hand over your life, Kei. I am going to make you pay for what you did to my parents, especially my mother, Jora. I am your worst nightmare and it’s a nightmare that will never end as long as you live.’ That’s what he said, word for word.”
“Jora, the light mage that escaped this realm with her lover!?!” I yelled, getting even angrier, “Jora is his mother!?! What was her lover’s name!?!”
“If I recall, My Queen, Darien Nelson,” Aneko answered.
“Nelson!?!” I screamed, “They escaped, had a son, and now their son is back to cause trouble for me!!! And, why do you have no arms!?!”
“Randy burned them off as proof that he’s serious,” Hanako answered.
“Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa,” I yelled, “You are of no use to me! Begone from this realm, Hanako!”
I snapped my fingers and watched as Hanako blew up into a pile of powder dust. I sighed.
“Aneko… I’m very disappointed,” I said, “It appears that a descendent of the only light mage ever to escaped my grasp has arrived to take back these magical beings’ realm and overthrow me. I can not let that happen! Already, this male light mage has defeated my rank seven commander. If I’m correct, he has already made some friends since he has been here.”
“He has, Your Grace,” Aneko replied, “My scanners indicate that he has an elf, a fairy, a ghost, and a witch with him. My guess is that he is heading towards Transbola to find the chosen vampire to add to his party.”
“This does not bode well, Aneko,” I said, “If my hunch is correct, he is one of the few mages that gains strength with each new partner of a different race. He already has four out of the seven. We must act fast. Give Commanders Gen and Machiko a radar with his beacon and tell them to get him before he finds that vampire!”
“Right away, Your Highness,” Aneko replied, disappearing.
I walked over to the window. You want a war, Randy Nelson? Then, you shall have one.
