A Girl Nobody Wanted

Chapter 65

A person came to the room with a trolley full of snacks and tea/ coffee. He then arranged them on the coffee table in fror of us.

At the same time, Luke entered the room after his call.

“Please treat yourselves. I have a few calls to be made.” Mr. Patterson said, and then he left me alone with Luke.

“What did he ask?” Luke asked after Mr. Patterson left.

“Nothing special..”" replied casually. If tell him the truth, he will drag me out of this house and go home in a blink of an eye.

He didn't say anything. We drank coffee silently.

After a few minutes, Mr. Patterson came to the room.

“Everyone drives me crazy. I don't know why people bother me this much even in a situation like this,” he said miserably. He looked even more exhausted.

“Why? What has happened, Mr. Patterson?” I asked worriedly. Everything he said to me earlier just disappeared after seei his face.

“My mom is a simple woman, Sarah. I am sure that she doesn't care about how many people attend her funeral or how much are we going to spend on her funeral ceremony. She is a religious woman; she just needs her last rituals to be done in front of God without any disturbance.” He said, closing his eyes and resting his head on the chair

I looked at Luke. He was just staring at Mr. Patterson without any expressions in his face.

“But my dad wants more. For him, even this is an opportunity to show his status. He wants to do the funeral ceremony grandly when I want it to be simple. We even had a conflict because of that. Finally, I decided to let him do whatever he wants because I had no energy to worry about it anymore. But now, all these people don't let me sit aside and just mour for my mom. They want me to talk with the funeral directors. They want me to talk to the people who come here. Since th moment my mom passed away, it was like this."

“l am not even in a state to thinking clearly. I feel like my head is going to explode. I just need to clear off my mind, Sarat I can't involve in all these responsibilities at this moment.”

He was still closing his eyes and relaxing his head. His voice sounds broken.

What he was telling is true. What the purpose of having a grand funeral ceremony after someone passed away. There is nothing that a person can get from it. Especially as he told, he just needs to clear off his mind. He just lost the most. precious person he had in his life.

This time when I look at Luke, his face was also filled with sympathy.

“Sarah...” Mr. Patterson said, raising his head from the chair.

“Yes, Mr. Patterson...” I said quickly.

“Can you please come with me for a walk in the garden. I need to stay away from all of these for some time; he asked. without even knowing, I looked at Luke before replying.

“Let's go for a walk. 1 also can join with you” Luke said immediately.

“No, Luke. I need a bigger help from you actually.” Mr. Patterson then said.

Luke looked at him curiously. I could clearly tell that he was not happy with whatever the help Mr. Patterson is going to a “Some people from the funeral directors would come now. I want you to go through this list with them and identify what yet to be done. Mr. Patterson said, offering Luke a file.

“But I don't know anything about the funeral plan or anything. I don’t think 1 will be any use to it.” Luke said immediately without even taking the file Mr. Patterson offered.

“Charles will be there. He knows everything. I just want someone responsible to be there with him because we can't keep complete trust in servants.” Mr. Patterson said.

“But can't we ask one of your relatives to look into that. ” Luke asked. I think he wants to come with us. He doesn't need t let me stay alone with Mr. Patterson.

“I don't really want to talk to any of them right now, Luke. Please... This is a big favor you can do me right now. If I stay further and talk with those people, my head will definitely explode. Please, let me take a few minutes off from all of thes: Mr. Patterson said in a pleading voice.

Finally, Luke agreed to take the file from Mr. Patterson. Mr. Patterson introduced Luke to the person called Charles, who w the person welcome us at the entrance.

Before I leave with Mr. Patterson, Luke gave me a look which carried all the words he couldn't speak in front of Mr. Patterson.

There was a huge, beautifully maintained garden beside Mr. Patterson's house. They surely spend more than all four of us spend in a month, for this garden. There were some plants that I have never seen, and I didn't even believe they grow weI in our country. They have put a great effort into this garden.

However, it is truly refreshing and relaxing to take a walk in such a beautiful place.

We were just walking silently. I wanted to tell something to comfort him, but I didn't know what to say.

“Mom loved this garden so much... This was her happy place,” he said in a low voice.

“We used to walk a lot in the garden together, after Lilly's death. Mom was trying her best to comfort me. My poor mom.” I voice broke.

“I can't ask you not to be sad, Mr. Patterson. But as I said, I am pretty sure that your mom wants you to stay happy. Don't break her heart." I said.

without saying anything, he stared at me.

“ am 50 glad that you are with me, Sarah..." then he said, holding my hand.

My whole body shivered. I wanted to release my hand, but I didn’t want to hurt his feelings as well.

“It is her own people made her leave this world so early, Sarah... She was too young to go,” he said, still holding my hand. I couldn't understand what he was talking about.

“She was young and healthy. They made her a heart patient, which eventually cost her life. But she loved them until her last breath. That's how my mom was. She was too good for this world."

“I can't really understand what you are talking about, Mr.

Patterson.’ I said confusedly.

“It is the fight between her brother and my dad, which made her a sick person, Sarah... She begged to both of them, but none of them were willing to listen” his grip on my hand felt extremely tight. He was angry and disappointed.

“Especially her brother. He didn’t give an sh*t about my mom. He is so desperate for money and power. His unlimited greediness finally killed my mom."

I felt s0 sorry for his mom. Her brother must be exactly like Shane. Who is willing to do anything for his own benefit, without thinking about his sister.

“Couldn't you intervene and try to find a solution to this conflict?” I asked, sadly.

“I tried that's how I lost my Lilly..” he said. His voice was filled with extreme anger. His grip got even tighter, and my hand started to ache. I think he realized that I was in pain, so he released my hand.

“What?” I asked with surprise. Didn't he say his Lilly died with an accident?

“My uncle is the one who planned that accident to kill my little angel...” he said.

“What? But why? *

“50 hard to believe right? But that's just a normal thing in this world, Sarah... He did that because I tried to intervene in their fight. My mom begged him to keep me out of this. But he didn't listen. He wanted to kill me. Unfortunately, it was m, Lilly, who paid the price.”

“How could someone become that heartless?” I asked in a broken voice.

No need to tell that I was furious about his uncle. I couldn't even believe how someone could do something like that to h own sister's family. I don't think even Shane can become that cruel.

“People can do a lot of things for power and money, Sarah... Someone so innocent like you can't even understand them,” said.

“Does he know that your mom passed away?” I asked.

“Yes... He came to the hospital. But he tried to get into a fight with my dad even there” he said.

“What? That person is totally unbelievable. I said, bitterly. Who can actually get into a fight when his own sister is in her death bed?

“It is not just him. His son and his wife are also the same. His wife played a major role in putting my mom mentally down. His son threatened me multiple times, even after Lilly's death. I am not sure, Lilly's accident was my uncle's work, or is it his son, who did all these” he said.

“My mom has begged all three of them to let us live alone. But they didn't listen. They all are so cruel”

“Couldn't you get the support from Police or someone?” I asked.

“Police...” he said, laughing.

“Police, Courts, and everything is under their arms, Sarah... They can do anything they wish in this country."

I don't usually hate people. I can't hate my parents, my brother, or anyone in the university, no matter how bad they treat me. But at that moment, I hate his uncle and his entire family, with my whole heart. Those people can't be really human. I wish they all have to suffer for what they have done.

“You know who my uncle is?" he then asked.

“I really didn't know anything about your dad either, Mr. Patterson. It is just today, I got to know that he is a politician. So how can I know about your uncle?” I said.

“Well... You know him quite well... Even if you don’t know my dad. At least you know his son..." he said.

“What? How I know about him?” I asked confusedly.
