A Girl Nobody Wanted

I don’t know how long we have been talking. I guess it was near to the dawn when we ended the call. As a result, I got late to wake up in the morning, as well.

It was around 7 am. So, as soon as I woke up, I ran to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. I didn't even remember to check m phone.

After preparing breakfast, I quickly got ready to go for lectures.

When I was about to leave the house, I saw Jake's message.

“Sarah, I have a few matters to attend at home. So, I am going there for a few days. Nothing to worry about, but 1 will be a bit busy. So, I won't be able to contact you most of the time.”

I read his message over and over again. After everything we discussed yesterday night, this message made me really bothered.

I dialed his phone, but it was switched off.

What the hell

He must be still on the way... Why has he switched off his phone already?

I tried dialing his phone a few more times, like a crazy person. I wanted to contact him somehow. He can't just put me a message like that and leave, right? He should know that 1 will worry so much.

If there is nothing to worry about, he won't leave like this. What has really happened? Has something happened to his mq or dad?

You should have called me and explained to me everything before leaving.

I saw Luke's car was parked near the bus stop. This made me even worried. Has something happened to Jake? What is Luk doing here in the morning?

I think he saw me from the side mirror. He waved at me.

I literally ran to his car and opened the passenger door.

“Good morning, Sarah...” he greeted me.

“Good morning. Where is Jake?” I asked, without even waiting to close the door.

“He got some matters to attend at home,” he replied casually.

“What matters? What has happened? Are his mom and dad okay? When did he leave?” I had so many questions to ask. “God, Sarah... Calm down. There is nothing to worry about. Everyone is okay. His dad needs him, related to a few matters. So, he had to leave early in the morning”

“But he called me yesterday night. It was near to the dawn when he hung up the phone. He didn't even mention anything said worriedly.

“I think his dad called him early in the morning. Jake called me around 6, I guess,” he said.

“He called you? He just kept a message for me. Why he couldn't call me as well?" I asked angrily. Don't get me wrong. I am not an overprotective girlfriend. However, with all the secrets he is hiding from me, I couldn't help but worried about him and get angry when he hide more things from me.

“He knows that you ask too many questions... Have you heard about that funny story about Christopher Columbus?” he asked, laughing.

“What? Is this a time to tell a funny story, Luke? ” he is making me even angrier.

“No... No... Listen... Then you will understand why he didn't call you." he said, still laughing.

I didn't say anything.

“You know what they say if Columbus had a girlfriend who is similar to today’s girls, he would never be able to discover America because his girlfriend will ask him millions of questions before he set off. She will ask him, why are you going on such a long and risky journey? Who else is going with you? When are you coming back? Will you write to me during the journey? Are there any girls in your crew? Why can’t you send someone else on this journey, do you have to do it by yourself?” he was continuously talking.

If it was some other time, he could make me laugh my heart out. But now, I was not in a mood for jokes.

“We ask all these because we love that person. You guys always misunderstand us” I said, angrily.

He just said he has to go, and he asked me to look after you until he comes back.” Luke sai “I don't know, Luke... Why he switched off his phone? It is a long journey to reach his home. So, why he couldn't make me call during the journey?” I asked.

“His dad has actually sent him a private helicopter. I think he could reach home even before 7 in the morning,” he said casually.

“What! A private helicopter? You say there is nothing to worry about when his dad sent him a private helicopter to reach home as soon as possible.’ I yelled at him.

“Oh! God! Sarah, I don't know how to explain to you. Please stop being worried. You know that he is the only child. When I father needs him, he has to go. They are so damn rich. They don't need an emergency to use a private helicopter. Just forget about everything and remember that he loves you more than anyone can love a girl.." he said. He seemed to be annoyed.

I looked at him. His face looked so serious. So, I didn't want to talk any further.

I went to the washroom after the first lecture. Sally was there. She smiled with me as she saw me. But it was not her usua bright smile.

Has Luke talked to her?

I smiled back.

“Hey! you didn't come for the lecture, right?” I asked.

“Yeah... I was planning to stay home today. But I also wanted to meet you. That's why I came after the lecture. You don't have anything until 1, right?” she asked.

I shook my head.

“Then, shall we go to the canteen? I need to talk to you,” she said.

“Okay...”

I followed her to the canteen. Please, God, help me face this situation. I am already worried enough.

she bought two hot chocolates for us. After that, we found an empty table in a corner.

“What?” I said involuntarily. I actually had no idea what Luke might have told her. I wish he talked to me about this befor she talks with me.

“That... He is gay..” she said, looking right at my eyes.

I almost spilled the drink... He said that

“He told me that only you and one other person knew about this before me; she said.

“sally, please believe me. I didn't know about that when you first talk to me about him. 1 only got to know about it after o study session.” I said quickly.

She is the only friend I have other than Jake and Luke. I couldn't afford to lose her.

“I know that, Sarah... Luke told me that... she said softly.

“l am 50 sorry, Sally?” I said, sadly.

“Don’t worry, Sarah... I am glad because he told me that. I have dedicated all my emotions to him for such a long time. So is not easy for me. But at least I know that he didn't reject me because of another girl...” she smiled weakly. I could see h eyes were filled with tears.

I took her hand and held it tightly.

“Earlier, I thought he doesn't even know me. But I was wrong. He knows me, and he admires me. If he didn’t care about m he wouldn't even bother to tell me. He trusts me a lot to share something like that. Even though I couldn't become his girlfriend, I have a place in his heart, that's enough for me, ” she said.

How innocent is she? If this is some other girl, would she act like this? Why Luke you couldn't be just a normal guy and lo this wonderful girl? Do you really have to love a jerk lie my brother?

“I don't know what to say, Sally. You are such a beautiful and kind-hearted girl. You will find a great guy one day” I said. “I don't know, Sarah, if I ever can love anyone else. Even though I am aware that I have no chance with him, I can't stop loving him. To be honest, I love him more than ever. ” she said.

“But Sally... you will have to suffer all your life.” I said.

why all these people are so selfless... How much they can sacrifice for the person they love... When compared with Luke and Sally, who am 1?

Sally and Luke are willing to sacrifice their life, even if they can't get anything in return from the person they love. The person whom I love loves me back. He loves me and cares about me more than anything. But what am I doing? I always have doubts... I always get worried. I always make him worried.

Even last night Jake promised me that he will do everything for us... 1 should believe in him and I should believe in us... 1 can't afford to act like a typical nagging girlfriend. I must be mature than that. I must be a person like Sally and Luke... “He loves someone so much, doesn't he?" her question broke me from my thoughts.

“Yeah...I said, sadly.

“I wish he could get him to love him back... ” she said.

“I wish that too, Sally..." but before everything, I wish my brother would become a proper person to receive love from a person like Luke... Otherwise, it won't be a happy ending for them...

After the lectures, I was walking towards the cafe.

I heard my phone rang. I took it out quickly, praying God it would be from Jake... It was just a few hours. But I miss him so much...

But it was not from Jake... The call was from Mr. Patterson!

I was staring at the phone, thinking if I should answer the call or not.
