A Girl Adopted By Wolves (Three book set)

Chapter 51- Arabella

After a few minutes, Zeno pulled me up and dragged me to one of bedrooms right beside the one the others were sleeping.

“You will stay with me in the safe house right?” He asked as he closed the door of the room.

"With you or not. I am to stay in the safe house. Mom doesn't want me on the battle field and I can understand. I am not fast or skilled enough to fight a demon yet.” I told him.

He looked relieved. He pushed me against the wall and rested his forehead on mine. I scribbled “being watched’ on his chest with my fingers.

“I got that part.” He mumbled against my lips.

“This is not the time for this Zeno.” I gritted out.

But the big oaf didn't listen and closed the almost nonexistent distance between our lips. I was about to push him off roughly when I felt him scribble on my back.

“What is going on?’ He scribbled as his lips moved on mine roughly.

Told you everything I know." I scribbled on his chest.

He moved back a little, breathing heavily. He leaned in again and started kissing me softly.

“Don’t want enemy knowing. That's why didn't tell everyone.” I wrote on his chest.

He squeezed my side in affirmation as he continued to massage my lips with his. He rested his head on my shoulder after a while and hugged me close. I opened my eyes only a fraction as I felt like someone was watching us to only stiffen in fear.

Red eyes were staring at me from outside the window. I closed my eyes again not wanting him to know that I saw the demon and pulled away from Zeno.

“Let's go. The others must be wondering where we are. Your mom might need you as well.” I told him lightly.

Zeno looked quite taken aback by my tone of voice. It was unusually soft.

“But I want to stay here with you a little while longer.” He said frowning at me.

His eyes were searching my face for some clue. He must have seen the underlined panic in my eyes because he quietly exited the room with me. I entered y room to check on the sleeping ones but there didn't seem to be any problem. They were safe.

I discreetly glanced at the window to find four more pair of red eyes glowing outside the window of their room. I acted like I didn’t see it. What should I do now? I can't just leave them here. What if they attacked and took them when I went to get Cassidy? Zeno was looking at me confused.

I need Cassidy. Will she hear me if I called her in my head?

“Cassidy.” I shouted loudly in my head.

But there was no reply. My hands were starting to get clammy from the fear and panic.

"CASSIDY"

A second later the door of my bedroom opened and Cassidy walked in massaging her head and glaring at me.

"Are they sleeping alright?” she asked looking at me pointedly.

"Yes." I said.

“They are outside the windows.” I thought.

Her expression only changed slightly but it went blank again like she didn't react at all.

“This room is stifling.” She said opening the window.

I saw the demons back away abruptly.

“The others will get back soon.” She said.

“I hope everything is fine there.” I said and Zeno nodded.

“I saw one outside the window of the other room and I saw four outside this room's window.” "Well we will know when they get back.” She said nodding. The red eyes were still there but a little further. They must have climbed up the tree outside the window. But what is Cassidy up to? “The others are getting tired as well. I hope they come back soon. We have to start with planning everything. The attack is happening way sooner than we anticipated. We are way too underprepared. We have so much to prepare. We have to move the children and spouses to a safe place too. I don't know what we will do at this rate. I can't say all this in front of the people sitting downstairs as they are already going through loss but we might not come back alive from the battle.” Her voice was barely above whisper and her back was to the window. “We haven't even figured out where to hide them. Uhh! I am having a headache from all this.”

It clicked to me what she was doing and I had an idea.

“How about we hide them at where dad's old coven was?" I asked grinning slightly. Cassidy smirked lightly. “Nobody knows of that place. That coven was destroyed way too back in time to remember so the demons won't look there. Dad had told me that the ruins were still there.”

Cassidy made a show of getting excited and grinned back at me.

"Why didn't I think of that? That would be a perfect place. I will discuss it with the others when they come back.”

She bounced out of the room.

“Are you relieved now that that part is settled?” Zeno asked with a soft expression on his face.

I nodded happily. He pulled me towards the open window. A cold draft of air came in from the window making me shiver and I sneezed.

“I guess we should close the window. You are shivering.” Zeno laughed lightly and locked the window.

I saw them creep back a little closer.

“Let's get outside and let them sleep.” I said to him and dragged him outside.

This time I left the door wide open. We crashed into Cassidy a few steps out of the door.

“I had put a spell around the house. They won't be able to break in so don't worry. I had made sure to lock everything up. I don't think they want to break in either.” She mumbled. “You know what to do when the others come back.”

She turned around and bounced down the steps, bumping into the occupants on the way purposefully. That old lady can never grow up despite her age.

"Where were you guys?” Ben asked looking pointedly at Zeno.

"We were talking and we came up with a plan.” I said excitedly. “Cassidy liked it too. I will tell you everything when the others come back.”

Right on point the doorbell rang and I dashed downstairs with an amused Zeno on my tail.
