A Girl Adopted By Wolves (Three book set)

Chapter 5- Amara

I locked my apartment door and plopped on the couch. That asshole Steven. Why does he have to poke his nose in other people's business? Austin and I were talking to each other. That actually distracted me from this morning's call to Asher but no he has to come and ruin the fun. It is remarkable how he can walk in a room and suck the life out of it so quickly. I might be exaggerating but who cares? Because of him I have to stay cooped up in my apartment alone. I would have invited Austin in but before I even got there, Steven the monster showed up. No point gloating on it now. Aaron will be back by a few minutes past two. Till then I should at least finish my chores and the remaining assignment which fortunately is only one. I have three hours to be done with everything then I will start with preparing lunch so it will be done till Aaron comes back. Let's get started then.

It's two in the afternoon and Aaron will be back in a few minutes. I am done with everything and waiting for him to come home. At twenty past two, the lock of the door clicked and a tired Aaron walked in. He needs to take a break for a little while. He was up last night for god knows how long to complete his college work. He gave me a weak smile and plopped on the stool beside me after removing his shoes and washing his hands and feet.

“The pasta smells wonderful.” He said smiling.

“Thanks. How was your day? You look tired.” I said serving food on his plate.

“The café was full with customers today. I didn't even get to sit once all through my shift. Millie wasn't happy that we cut our time today. She needed extra hands.” He replied gobbling down his food while I ate slowly. I am in no hurry. “So where are we going today?” He asked grinning.

“I don't know. How about we go after five? You didn't sleep well last night. You will feel fresh after you are a little rested.” I suggested.

"Off course not.” He said narrowing his eyes at me. “I did not stay up last night to bail today’s plan.” “Aaron you will get sick. We have school tomorrow. We will go after five.” I said making him look at me in disbelief which I obviously ignored and carried on. “We can enjoy the night life of the city if there is any. We haven't been out at night here.”

"You do understand that we can't go to a club right. You are seventeen and I am eighteen.”

“I wasn't talking about club. I was talking about talking a stroll in the evening. Go where the road takes us.” I said lamely.

“You know, you need more rest than I do. You are acting weird.” He said chuckling making me pout. “Fine. We will go out say five thirtyish. I do feel tired.”

We finished eating and cleaned up the counter. I started washing the dishes and Aaron was drying them. We were almost done when I felt a sharp pain in my chest making me wince.

“You alright?” Aaron asked looking at me concern.

"Yeah I think so. I just felt a sharp pain in my chest. Must be a heart burn.” I replied nonchalantly.

I never get those though.

"Are you sure?”

"Yeah."

We finished the dishes and went to take a nap. Aaron set an alarm for five and dozed of immediately. I on the other hand was awake. The pain won't go away. It was coming in intervals. Sharp pains in my chest like someone was making little cuts on my heart. I buried my face to stop myself from wincing loudly. After like an hour or so it stopped but the place where my heart is felt like its scorched. I closed my eyes and dozed off like somebody sucked the energy out of me.

I woke up to Aaron shaking me violently. I opened my eyes groggily to his worried face. He was standing on the bunk ladder. What did I do now?

“I have been trying to wake you up for half an hour now. You were sleeping like a dead log. Are you alright?” he asked worried.

“Yeah.” I said getting up.

He climbed down and I followed.

“It's already half past five. How about we order in and binge watch movies?” he asked looking at me in concern.

I feel drowsy. On the second thought that would be a great idea. I nodded.

“How about pizza?" he asked.

I don't want to worry him but I can't do anything at the moment. My face must be showing that I am not feeling well.

"Yeah. Sounds good.” I whispered.

"Why don’t you take a bath? You will feel better. Till then I will set everything up.” He said ushering me to the bathroom.

I didn't have the energy to protest. I locked the bathroom door and started the tap to fill the bath tub. My arms and legs feel so heavy. I feel like someone drained every ounce of energy from my body. When the bath tub was full and the water temperature was right, I removed my clothes and sank in the tub. Heaven. After about ten minutes, I got up and rubbed myself dry with the towel that was fortunately there. In all the daze, I have forgotten to bring my cloths and towel. I do feel a little better than before but still a little tired. I wrapped the towel around my body and went in the bedroom to change. I saw his laptop on our small coffee table and blankets on the couch. The windows were blinded and the lights were turned off to make the room darker. The kitchen light was on. The scent of popcorn is wafting from the kitchen. Aaron must be there making popcorn.

I changed into my comfiest baby blue pajamas and walked outside the bedroom. I plopped my ass on the couch. Aaron came with two large baskets full of popcorn. Yes! We eat a lot. He settled them on either side of us and dashed back to get us something to drink. I feel so bad that he is doing all the work even after he is so tired but my body don't seem to cooperate me now. He sat down beside me and picked up the laptop.

"So what are we watching?” he asked.

“How about horror?” I suggested.

“Sure.” He said. "How about we start with the Anabelle movies then move on to the others.” I nodded.

He put the laptop back with “Anabelle’ playing. We snuggled closer and wrapped the blanket around us. We are both scared of horror movies but we still like to watch them. After a lot of screaming, hugging and scratching each other, the movie ended. He put on “Anabelle creation’ and snuggled to me. Before starting the movie, he ordered the pizza. We were on the part where Janice’s wheelchair is pushed in the shed and she is thrown on the floor when Aaron paused the movie and dashed to the washroom yelling “I have to take a dump’ on the way. I was about to lay back when the downstairs doorbell rang. That must be our pizza. I don't think Aaron will be coming back any sooner keeping in mind the speed he ran off with.

I got up off the couch but the world swirled around me. I took a hold of the hand rest of the couch to steady myself. Am I catching flu? But I am not sneezing or anything. The doorbell rang again. I took a deep breath and went to the bedroom to get my wallet. I opened the door and walked out of it. I still feel a little light headed. What is happening to me? I could have sent Aaron but I don't want him to get any more worried. I walked down the hallway, slowly I might add and then descended the stairs. I opened the front door and the delivery guy gave me my box. By now I am sweating profusely. I don't feel good. The delivery guy gave me a worried look.

“Are you feeling alright? You look.....pale.” The delivery guy said.

“Yeah. I think I am coming down with flu.” I replied to him smiling.

I paid him the money.

“Well take care.” He said before he walked off to his ride.

I locked the door and started ascending the stairs. Why isn't Cassidy and Grayson back yet? They said they will be home by now. They might be running a bit late I guess. I was halfway through the stairs when a sharp pain went through my chest making me cry out loud. It felt more painful than the first one. Then another with more intensity than the other came that I doubled over. The pizza almost slipped out of my hands. I put it down on the landing and started crawling my way up. What is happening to me? My vision started to swim. Almost there. I was on the last step when a pain so extreme went through my chest that a scream escaped my mouth. I laid there on the top stair. Something wet fell on the floor in front of me and I noticed I was crying.

I crawled up to the opposite wall on the where the apartment door was and got up with the support of the wall. The hallway started to swim in and out of my focus. I kept walking and soon the door came in view. I was just about to knock on it when I felt an unbearable pain in my heart. I wanted to scream but it wouldn't come out. I almost passed out. I leaned my head on the door. I need to get to Aaron. But before I could knock on the door, the door opened and I fell in. I was waiting to for the ground to make contact with my face but it never came. I fell on a hard, cold chest and I blacked out.
