Chapter 29- Amara
Asher parked his bike outside his house and we got off. Aaron's car is also parked at the house to the right of Asher's. Hmmm got to make Aaron spill everything. Carter and Aaron are getting along quite well I guess. I am really happy for him. That guy deserves to be loved.
Asher took my hand in his and we went inside his house. A man, an older version of Asher, must be his father, was sitting in the living room. He gave us a warm smile and called for his wife. What the hell is happening here? I am getting a feeling of an interview with the in laws type of meeting. I turned my head to look at Asher but he was looking at his father. I pinched his bicep with my other hand but he just turned his head towards me, giving me a goofy smile. Creepy much. I gave him “what the hell is going on over here’ look.
"My parents wanted to meet you so I brought you here to meet them.”, he moved a bit away from me as I glared at him," Please don't kill me.", he said in almost a whisper.
"A prior warning would have been nice." I said in a low voice.
He shrugged and turned towards his parents.
"Why are you two standing their? Come on in. Have a seat.” his mother said giving us a warm smile. She is about 5' with brown hair just like Asher’s and brown eyes. His father is a bit shorter than Asher. He might be 6' with black hair and blue eyes. We sat on the couch and his parents sat opposite to us. Definitely an interview. This is awkward though or may I say weird. Why the hell am I meeting his parents this early? We met literally two days ago. Isn't this going too fast?
"Finally he brought you here. We were so excited to meet you." his father said.
"Nice to meet you too Mr. Wilson." I said nervously.
"Just call me Arthur. This is my wife Christine." He said smiling.
I nodded at them. Asher squeezed my hand but I took my hand out of his and rested both my hands on my knees. I saw him frown from the corner of my eye. Take that for sabotaging me. I am really mad at him for dragging me in this situation without asking me if I am ready to meet his parents or not.
"Amara, you are Robert Cross's daughter right?" Arthur asked. Not again.
"No. I am Alpha Hercules's daughter." I replied. My reply came out sharper than I intended. This is really irritating though. Why does people call me that man’s daughter? I don't know why but I am starting to feel bitter about my father.
"You are from another pack?" he asked confused.
"No sir. I am from this pack only.” I replied smiling.
"I don't understand. I have never heard of him. I didn't even knew there was any other alpha in the town. How can there be two alphas for the same pack?" he asked, his eyes going wide with confusion.
"It's a long story." I said shrugging.
"Okay. Does your father know about Ash being your mate?" he asked.
"Yeah. They have met each other.” I said. The meeting wasn't how I expected it to be though.
"I would really like to meet him someday.” He said hopefully or thinking that I am a fool. I didn't really catch his expressions correctly.
"I would you rather not. The pack didn't take it very well.” I warned.
"Oh." He said disappointed?
"Dad can we talk about something else?" Asher intervened.
"I am really sorry for making you uncomfortable. Tell me about yourself." He said laughing.
"I lived in Esterden till now with my uncle, aunt and brother. I moved here few weeks ago. I am in 11th grade and go to the Greycoast high." I said quickly. Too quickly I may add.
"What about your parents?" he asked.
"I am an orphan. I lived with my uncle and aunt until I moved here to Greycoast. Papa, I mean Alpha Hercules adopted me when I was ten. Now I live with him and my older brother Ryder." I said smiling.
"Isn't Robert your father?" he asked confused. So we circled around ey.
"Biologically yes", I squirmed uncomfortably, "It's quite complicated.”
"Okay." He gave up.
"Let the poor girl breath Arthur. You are scaring her.”, Christine said.
"I am really sorry Amara. I just wanted to get to know you better. You are going to be part of the family soon.” He said embarrassed.
"It's okay Arthur. I can understand.” I replied uncomfortably.
What the hell? This conversation is going somewhere else completely. What does he mean by being a part of the family and what does he mean by soon? How soon is he expecting that to happen? I lifted the glass of juice from the centre table that I didn't notice till now and took a huge gulp.
"So when are you guys getting engaged?" Christine asked out of nowhere.
I choked on the juice and started coughing. Asher patted my back. What the hell is wrong with these people? Engaged? Is this lady for real? I am just sixteen for crying out loud.
"Are you alright?" Christine asked me.
"Yeah. The juice went in the wrong way." I said clearing my throat.
"Okay. So when are you two getting engaged?” She asked me again. I so what to murder Asher.
"I am not sure about that. I mean we are not even eighteen yet. Maybe in a few years.” I replied as casually as I can while on the inside I was seething with anger. I will rip Asher limb by limb after I get out of here.
"Didn't Asher tell you about the pack laws? You get engaged to your mate the week you meet them and get married when you turn eighteen.” Arthur added.
I am going to murder Asher slowly and painfully. How dare he bring me here without telling me the reason for meeting his parents?
"I don't think that can be possible Arthur. I am still in school. I want to go to the college after that. I want to focus on my career first. Marriage or engagement is not on my list right now. We literally met two days ago. I don't even know him properly to think about all this. Maybe I can think about it when I graduate but now, it is impossible.” I said seriously.
"It is against the pack laws. Your father is an alpha right? He must have told you about the rules." He said it like I am an utterly stupid person. He is really getting on my nerves
"No he never said anything about the rules. There are no mates in my pack and besides I am the only female in the pack. The situation never occurred. To top it all, marriage is a very important part of life and I don't want to go through it because of people pressuring me to do so." I replied a bit irritated.
"Well you have to follow the pack rules. No excuses there. You two will get engaged this Sunday." Bossy much. Why the hell is Asher not saying anything? Is he in with his parents in this? Obviously he is. That's why he brought me here in the first place.
"Arthur you cannot force me into getting engaged. You don't have that authority over me.” I said calmly but inside I am bursting with rage.
"That's what the rules say and these rules are being followed since ages. Others are getting engaged this week. You can't go against the rules. I mean you are going to be the female third in command. How irresponsible will that look? You cannot run from your responsibilities. I would like to meet with your father to discuss this. I am sure he will agree with me. The rules are not going to change for you. You two are getting engaged this Sunday and that's final." He said sternly. That was the last string. Who does he thinks he is? I would really like him to meet Papa and talk about getting me engaged. Papa will tear him in pieces. I slammed my hand on the table and stood up.
"You will not order me around or take decisions about me. I am talking to you politely here and you are ordering me like some lowlife. You cannot take one of the biggest decisions of my life just like that. I am part of this pack since I was ten, I never heard of such bizarre rules. Asher and I will decide about our marriage when we are ready and only when we are ready. You don't have to meddle in it." I shouted angrily. “You want to meet my father for discussing my marriage right? I dare you go ask him and come out in one piece. Asher knows where to find him. He will take you to see him. I won't be intervening, if he tries to rip your throat out. Best of luck Arthur.”
My breathing got really heavy till I finished. I took deep breaths to calm myself down and slumped on the couch. Asher took my hand in his and started rubbing his thumb in circular motion. I snatched my hand from him and glared at him. I will hand his ass to him later for dragging me in this situation without any prior confrontation or information. I need to calm down first.
"You are an Alpha. But how is that possible? Girls never turn into wolfs and don't even have the werewolf blood in them.” Arthur said after a few seconds of silence. His face was stunned.
"I am not really in a mood or do I have the patience to explain anything to you. Sorry for being rude but you really got on my nerves. I would really like to leave now." I said through gritted teeth.
I got up and stormed out of the door.
