A Cowboy In Love

Chapter 18

-I'm sorry Mel but we're leaving tomorrow.

-But why 50 soon? I'd like to go out more with Rodrigo.

-I'm sorry! She got up and walked up the stairs to her room.

Great and I thought she was enjoying being here, yesterday I saw her having fun at the party.

“We can't do anything, she's made her decision.

-And you'll stay?

-Of course I will stay. If my granddaughter wants to see me, she'll have to come here.

- don’t know if I want to leave.

Then make a decision.

-1 don't know, I don't want to look like I'm staying for Rodrigo. -1 don't know.

Only you can make your decisions.

The day went by like lightning, Megan spent most of the day in her room. Melissa took the opportunity to be with Rodrigo when he didn’t have work to do, Jack and Megan didn't run into each other all day until dinner time when she was about go downstairs when she overheard a conversation between her grandmother and Jack. Just hearing her voice gave him goose bumps.

-And what's my fault that she wants to leave tomorrow?

She says that you don't feel comfortable with her presence.

Well, if I remember correctly, she has her life in Atlanta, most likely she wants to go back to take care of her business. “What do you know about that? I chuckle.

-Grisell, if she wants to leave, then let her go.

I want her to stay!

-But she doesn’t want to stay on this ranch.

“Maybe it's because you haven't treated her very well. You've teased her and dared to kiss her without her consent.

1 don't think she'd want to leave just because of a kiss. -Do you want me to beg her to stay?

You're stubborn, Jack.

As Megan eavesdropped Jack's voice was one of pure sarcasm and it infuriated her to know that he wouldn't lift a finger apologise for his mistreatment, but what she could do to leave was the most reasonable thing to do. When she went dow the next step she lost her balance because she was paying attention to the conversation she didn't notice and fell flat on her face, the scream that came out of her throat was deafening, she didn't know how but in an instant Jack was next to he along with her grandmother.

“What happened? The worried look on her grandmother's and Jack's face frightened her.

“I slipped, my ankle hurts so much. Almost on the verge of tears.

“Let me see. Her grandmother said. ~ Jack we'll have to call the doctor, it's starting to swell.

Ves call him, I'll take her up to her room. Megan I'll carry you upstairs ok everything will be fine.

“It hurts so much, do you think I broke it? She couldn't hold back the tears anymore and burst into tears.

-1 don't think so. But let's wait for the doctor. He lifted her up very slowly and walked with her up the stairs.

He sat Megan on the bed as he settled her ankle on a pillow.

-It's swollen and turning purple. It looks awful and it hurts too much Jack. She moaned through her tears.
-'m son Mel but we're leaving tomorrow.

-But why 50 soon? I'd like to hang out with Rodrigo more.

“Shh... He hugged her and comforted her. ~ Everything will be fine, I'm sure its just a sprain.

Grisell was running into the room at that moment with Melissa and Rodrigo, Jack quickly let go of her and walked away. -Oh Megan! Don’t worry, I don't think it's serious. Her friend said hugging her.

Don't worry, the doctor will be here in a few minutes, he happened to be nearby visiting some neighbours.

Grandma, it hurts so much, how long will it take?

-I brought you a compress my child, this will help your pain.

The cold compress began to soothe Megan's ankle after a while, this was the last straw, breaking her ankle meant she would have to stay in that house for a while longer. Her idea of leaving the next day was totally out of the question. She I down on the pillow Jack had given her, to think and forget about the pain, but all she could think about was that he confused her, sometimes he was so cute and sometimes he was so unfriendly, why did he behave that way? And the blessed pain in her ankle seemed as if she was being pricked with a needle over and over again, when would the doctor arrive.

After a while she heard a different voice in the room, she opened her eyes and looked at a man of medium height, about fifty years old, he began to inspect her ankle.

Is it serious, Meison? Jack asked.

“No, it's just a sprain. The cold compress helped a lot, you will need painkillers and bandages, at first tight and the next d they leave it a little looser, in a week I will check your foot again.

-A week? I asked in horror.

Yes, it's better to rest it for about three weeks. I recommend that you don't strain your foot at all, if you do, that simple sprain will suffer serious damage and I'm afraid I'll have to put it in a cast in the end.

-No! But I have to go back to Atlanta tomorrow.

“No buts. His grandmother said angrily. ~ They can manage without you there, your health comes first.

Grandma, please.

-I reccommend that you take her advice, that ankle is not fit to take a plane. You must rest. Grisell, don't hesitate to call m in case of an emergency.

I'll walk you to the door, doctor. -Granny, Grisell, give me that receipt so I can go to the pharmacy and buy what Megan needs.

I'll go with you Rodrigo. Said Melisa.

Once they all left the room Grisell said.

-1 know that you two don't get along very well, I don’t know why, but you Jack will have to accept that my granddaughter stays a few more days in her condition, she can't leave. And you Megan will not leave here until your ankle heals. -Grandma I...

Miss Megan can stay as long as she wants, I'm not a beast like some people think.

Megan looked him in the face a little embarrassed.

You'd better be. I'll bring your food up in a little while my girl.

-In that case, thank you for your hospitality, Jack. His tone of voice wasn't very friendly, but who cares, he didn't offer his help very willingly either.

You're welcome. See you downstairs Grisell.

“Ill be right up, my girl

She was in a lot of trouble, spending three more weeks there because of her clumsiness as she didn't notice the steps. Sf would have to settle some business in Atlanta before she could rest easy, she hoped Mr. Grumpy would give her a space i his office for a few days so she could work. As her ankle ached, she hoped her friend would return with painkillers as soo as possible. What was she going to do with her days on that ranch? At least she was sure she wouldn't see Jack, since in h condition she wouldn't be able to get out of bed much.

She still remembered their wonderful night together, her pillows still smelled of him, and it was torture to smell his scent every day. She would ask her grandmother to change them when she had time. She couldn't deny it anymore, she liked tr bitter cowboy, most of the day they spent having a difference, but something deep inside her told her that she liked him more than she should and that scared her, and even more so now that she would be there for three weeks and that presented a big problem for her.

My girl, I brought you dinner. Melisa and Rodrigo arrived with the painkillers.

-Thank God, Grandma, I can't stand this pain.

Well, with this you'll get better very soon.

-1 hope so, grandma, I have to get back to my life as soon as possible.

If that's what you want, I won't tell you any more. Now eat something.

Grandma, I need to take a shower, you'll have to help me get up to go to the bathroom.

-Oh no my child! 1 can't do something like that, I'l leave that job to Jack.

Have you lost your mind? If he can't stand me, how can you ask him to do such a thing.

“It's the least he can do to make you feel uncomfortable.

Grandma, for God's sake, this is his house, not yours.

-But that doesn’t give him the right to intimidate the people who live in it.

“Tell Melissa to go upstairs and help me.

She went back out with Rodrigo to get some things for the house.

-Great! What kind of friend is that.

Well, she’s in love with Rodrigo and she's doing her best to spend time with him. I'll send Jack and don't argue.

Her grandmother was really stubborn.

“What do you want me to do what?! -You don't think you're trying my patience Grisell.

“Not at all. She can't move freely, besides you're only going to carry her to the bathroom or when she needs to move. Go upstairs and help her.

~Your granddaughter doesn't like me. -Why does she insist we treat each other?

“Funny, she said the exact same thing about you!

Jack remained silent and reluctantly went upstairs to Megan's room.
