Chapter ~ 26 ~

Valentine looked at me then looked around normally his eyes scanning his surroundings before looking back at me.

β€œWell before I was at the Academy then I left while talking to you I’m currently walking around the capital city.”

β€œCapital? Are you saying that Astoria is a capital?” I asked confused.

Last I checked Astoria was not a capital of anything it was actually the city within a capital. It must be a capital where he’s from.

β€œYeah, okay well I’m just getting to my house now which is in the city named Astoria, it’s not the best city actually I’m pretty sure the neighboring town is better than Astoria,” I said as I stopped in front of my door and fumbled for my keys.

Valentine looked at me with wide eyes as he looked around his as if expecting to see me.

β€œYour… House? And what you mean Astoria is a city?”

I looked at him trying to think of something to say that made me sound less crazy, but then I thought of his discussion about magic and demon lord as if that was normal and how he is planning to make a contract with the unborn Dragon egg he is taking care of.

β€œThis may seem strange to you but… I’m not from where you’re from, Astoria is not a capital for me, actually, my capital is Valistia and our customs are probably very different.

From what I see about you, you were strange clothes from the past like you’re a middle-class villager, but with me, I wear different clothes, I’m currently wearing a shirt that my friend bought me from the mall, a material you might find rare or hard to find. And my pants are made of… I think it’s polyester and cotton I’m not sure.” I said.

Valentine looked at me speechless, as he eyed me down like he did when we first met.

β€œI thought there was something strange about your clothes but I wasn’t sure as for your capital… I’ve never heard of it Valistia you said?”

β€œYeah, it used to be called Moon Ridge but the mayor decided to change it to Valistia back in the 16th century.”

Valentine looked at me in awe as I plopped down on the couch. I looked around the living room curious if he could see what I could see.

β€œIt is quite fascinating, hearing about this… Your world and…” He said as he stopped and stared at something that I could not.

β€œWhat is it you are sitting on? You look quite comfortable.” He finally asked as he sniffed something.

β€œA coach, it’s a piece of furniture that’s very comfortable. Depending on the size of the couch you can fit up to four people, though my coach can only fit about three.” I said a little sad.

β€œA couch? What a strange type of furniture what does it do?”

β€œIt's pretty much chairs stuck together to make one big one, in this case, my coach can fit about three seats so three people, or just one person if they stretch out throughout the whole thing.” I joked.

I guess it’s true that back in the old days didn’t really have a lot of things such as coaches but then again how far back is this guy?

I turned on the TV as Valentine

stood beside me and fascination his mind reeling over the fact that I had a coach. I stared at the screen as Valentine stood next to me still saying nothing as he looked around his little town.

β€œI can’t figure out what to watch,” I said to myself as a scrolled through Cyber stream when my phone vibrated.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket, stopping when I saw Valentine staring at me his eyes wide as if he saw something terrifying.

β€œWhat?” I asked as I tried to remember that he was from some other world entirely unfamiliar to what my world was like.

β€œWhat are you doing and what was that?” He asked pointing down in my direction where my phone sat on my leg.

Should I even tell him about this or should I just keep it to myself? I’m not sure if he would understand what I would be telling him… Then again he just told me about dragons and magic not that long ago. I mean assault funds kind of a form of magic if you think about it that way.

I glanced at him then smiled nervously as I lifted up my cell phone.

β€œThis? Are you asking what this is?” I asked. Hoping my phone was locked and not showing the cheesy wallpaper I chose for my lock screen.

β€œYes, that what is that?” He asked almost eagerly.

β€œIt’s… It’s my cell phone.” I said as I pushed the button on the side to activate my phone showing him the cheesy wallpaper of Troy from the haunted village.

Valentine looked at it, his eyes practically sparkling with excitement as he put all his attention to looking at it.

Yeah I bet this is mind-blowing to him, a piece of technology that lights up and makes phone calls not that he knows.

β€œWhat does it do? This… Cell…. Cell phone machine.” He asked.

Cell phone machine? What’s the cell phone machine?

I chuckled as I put my phone down, trying to suppress the big urge to fall out laughing.

β€œI don’t know what a cell phone machine is but, a cell phone is pretty much a wireless phone connected to radio towers and the Internet. It’s used to make phone calls and text people, depending on the style of phone you have you can also explore the web and watch videos.” I said knowing full well he understood nothing of what I said.

Valentine looked at me blankly as he stared in the direction of my phone. I was going to say something but decided to wait till he asked, checking my phone to see what the notification was.

Zaphira are you home we need to talk please reply back to me.

Blaine.

I rolled my eyes as I stuck my phone back into my pocket ignoring the message as if I didn’t see it.

β€œWhat is… Anything you just said?” Valentine finally asked as he saw the look of irritation on my face.

β€œDo you really want to know?” I asked slightly amused.

β€œYes, I really want to know.” He said as he started walking again somewhere.

Okay, this is how the phone works,” I said as I lifted up my phone to show him.

β€œThis is how you make a phone call, if you don’t know the person’s phone number you type it here in this box with the numbers, you type in the area code 1st then the rest of the phone number.” I began.

Valentine watched intently as I explained.

β€œIf you have the person's number you can save it in the contacts like this,” I said as I showed him quickly all the contacts I had.

β€œWhen you make a phone call the phone is connected to phone towers, those phone towers are what give us the signals to make phone calls,” I said as I opened the Internet browser and typed in phone towers.

β€œThese are cell phone towers were just regular towers these are what you would see when you’re near a town at least in my world and that’s how I make phone calls as long as you’re near them you can make a phone call.”

β€œVery interesting, I love how you explain these strange objects and things in your world.” He said as he stared at the phone towers before I backed out of the Internet.

β€œThank you I guess,” I said unsure of what to say.

β€œWas that thing, the thing you showed me the…Umm.” Valentine said not sure what to say either.

β€œYes, if you trying to say was that the Internet then yes, what I showed you was a photo an online image of the phone tower you can type in the search engine when you go to it and look up anything that you want to know,” I spoke.

Valentine looked impressed as he stared at it and was fascinated when my phone vibrated again.

β€œBut that’s all I’m going to say about that because that’s really all I know anything else would lead to more questions and those questions will lead to things that I don’t know how to explain,” I said as I glanced at my phone.

Valentine looked sad, his lips frowning as he looked away. His expression changed as he glanced at something.

I looked at my phone to see another text message from Blaine asking if I had returned home and if I would give him a call I closed my phone again ignoring it as I flip through channels.

I know Valentine said what he said but it doesn’t stop it from hurting, I want Blaine to see me as more than just some kid he felt obligated to take care of because of a promise.

I want him to see that I’ve changed that I am more than just what I was why can’t he see that on his own why do I have to tell him?

I turned on the first thing that I saw, this sounds startlingly Valentine as he turned his attention to me abruptly his eyes widened.

β€œSorry, TV show,” I said as I waved the TV remote in front of him even though it would’ve been another explanation.

I could see that he was going to say something when he’d disappeared again out of nowhere, the room feeling colder and more lonely as if he was physically in the room before leaving.

Weird, I kind of miss him, I know that before I thought he was just Blaine messing around or a creepy stalker but… I don’t know his popping up in talking to me just seemed so comforting.

Though I am kind of curious on why we are even able to communicate, to begin with. Does it have something to do with… It can’t mean it’s just jewelry and if it had something to do with it then why did mom keep it from me and am I some sort of… For seer into other worlds or something?

I glanced at my ring, the glint from the light shining off of the dark colors. I slid the ring off my finger and looked at it my name still engraved on it with numbers underneath.

I wonder what the numbers are, and why is my name on this ring? And why does mom have the same copy of the necklaces for me? What is going on?
