Chapter ~ 23 ~
I opened my eyes to the smell of bacon being cooked; the sun gleamed in through the living room window. The TV was on the words continue watching with an episode of what we watched frozen in place as cyberspace waited for our confirmation.
βWhen did I fall asleep?β I wondered as I sat up.
I yawned as I stretched, the blanket now resting on the floor scrunched up in a ball. I slowly made my way towards the kitchen, Blaine stood at the stove as he waited for something to be ready.
I turned away and made my way towards the stairs silently going up as my body denied each step.
Why do I feel so tired today? I feel so sore and stiff. I wonder where Blaine sleptβ¦ I canβt even remember when I fell asleep, itβs starting to become a common thing with me falling asleep on Blaine.
I stopped in front of my bedroom door, the cool breeze escaping the rum as I opened the door.
I entered my room and went straight for the dresser looking for anything I could find to where when I remembered the clothes that Blaine bought.
βToday is a good day to test out those clothes Blaine bought; those leggings look so warm.β I said to myself as I put the clothes, I grabbed the way.
I crept back downstairs towards the living room, Blaineβs footsteps as he moved towards the table. I could hear the sound of him placing plates onto the table increasing as it filled the rest of the downstairs.
βGood morning, Zaphira.β Blaine said as he glanced at me a tired look on his face as he turned away opened the fridge.
βGood morning,β I said as I grabbed the bags. βIβm using the shower.β
βOkay, foods on the table when you come back.β Blaine called from the kitchen.
βOkay, Iβll be down soon and thank you for breakfast.β I yelled back before vanishing into the bathroom with my clothes.
I glimpsed at myself in the mirror in my room, the black shirt and the leggings feeling nice and warm. The oversized feeling of comfort as I spun around in my outfit as if it was a brand-new dress.
βI really do love this outfit, next time I visit Evelyn and Raylan I am totally wearing this I want to show them this outfit and see what they thinkβ¦ And hope they believe itβs whatever they want, as long as I donβt get thrown on the Stake for wearing it.β
I made my way down the stairs, Blaine was sitting at the table eating his breakfast, the sound of his fork scraping on the plate as I made my way down the stairs.
βLooks good on you,β Blaine said as he looked up from his plate, a small smile crossing his face as looked at me.
βThink you, it was a gift from a friend.β I said as I sat down at the table, my stomach growling as my eyes landed on the bacon that called for me.
βAre you going to be using the new bag as well? I think it will go well with your outfit.β Blaine said.
I took a bite of my breakfast, the smell of bacon sending butterflies down my stomach as I ate.
βI was going to,β he said as I lifted the bag up and put it on the table. βI just have to transfer all my stuff into it Iβll do it after I finish eating breakfast.β I said as he went back to eating.
I ruffled through my bag pulling everything out that I had, Blaine stood in the kitchen doing the dishes from breakfast as I tried to sort out what was going and what was staying.
βI wonder if we're going to have a project coming soon,β I said as I glanced at Blaine who was finishing up. βIt would be nice to know if I have to pack this with my stuff.β
βI donβt exactly have any projects that I have myself coming up so I donβt think youβll be needing to pack it unless youβre trying to make of castle out of Popsicle sticks and you need a lot of glue.β Blaine said as he turned around.
I laughed as I pulled out the glue and various crafting material. I zipped up my bag and glanced at it, the beautiful design making me feel excited.
βYou know you didnβt have to do dishes, right? I could have done the dishes you were the one that made breakfast after all it is only fair.β I spoke
βNah, itβs fine I donβt mind doing besides I know how badly he wanted to rearrange your new bag you wouldnβt have had time if you did it after dishes.β Blaine said as he glanced at his phone.
βBy the way if you are going to stay the night you should have at least stopped by at your house to grab your bag.β I said as I looked at him.
βYeah, I know I didnβt realize it until this morning actually.β He said sounding annoyed.
βWell, if you leave now, you wonβt be late for any periods and you wonβt get written up again.β I said trying to reassure him.
βYeah, now would be a good time to have a car.β Blaine said sounding annoyed.
I escorted Blaine to the front door thanking him again for the surprise. The morning breeze slamming into us as we opened the front door his already messy hair getting tousled even more.
βOkay, I will catch you at school try not to be late okay.β He said as if I was the one that was running late.
βIβll try not to, but youβre the one that has the issue not me.β I said as he looked at me then nodded before leaving.
I checked once more to make sure I had everything and that I had my keys. I exited the house when my phone rang startling me as I locked up.
βHello?β
βGood morning, Zaphira,β Clarissa sat on the other end her voice chipper as always.
Oh yeah, I forgot she came back thoughβ¦ When did she get my cell phone number, I donβt think anybody has my number other than grandfather?
βGood morning, Clarissa,β I said politely as I walked down the street towards the school the fall leaves swirling violently around me as they were carried off down the street. βHowβd you get my number by the way?β
βOh, I got it from father I told him I wanted to call you and have you come by today, itβs been forever since I saw you and I want to make sure everythingβs going well for you.β
βOh, okay Iβll comply right away after school.β I said politely ignoring the grunge that I will have to see Lexi that I will have to see Lexi.
βHey, Clarissa guess what I found!β Lexi said from the other end excitedly an emotion I never knew she could have.
βWhat did you find?β Clarissa asked curiously.
βWho are you talking to? You donβt have friends.β Lexi said from the other end.
Wow! So, sheβs not just an ass hole to me, I thought she just hated me but now sheβs just a bitch. I donβt know how Clarissa can tolerate her; I would hate to have a sister like Lexi.
βJust talking to Zaphira sheβs coming to the house later today.β Clarissa said sternly as if to warn Lexi.
I could hear Lexi on the other and mumbling something to herself before a loud crashing sound erupted from the other end.
βWhat the hell! Lexi why the hell did you do that?β Clarissa snapped on the other end.
βYouβre letting that which is child into our house! Couldnβt you just leave her be and live in a hovel that she lives in.β Lexi snapped angrily.
βLexi! Sheβs lived here before sheβs part of the family regardless, she only moved out because you stupidly got yourself into trouble and had to come back home.β Clarissa said.
βIt doesnβt change that she that womanβs child, if I was here before that I wouldβve stopped father from letting her take in that kid maybe if her mother wasnβt so stupid, we wouldnβt be stuck raising her child.β
βDo you know how immature you sound? Your full grown adult in your acting this childish I get that you donβt like Mira and you didnβt approve of her dating Jonathan but, the fear is not the one to blame was a pure accident and you know it.β Clarissa said venomously.
Wait! Lexi hates me because mom married Johnathan? What the hell is wrong with her? Itβs not my fault that dad passed away when I was born even mom was upset when he passed away.
βI canβt believe you Clarissa.β Lexi said.
You canβt believe me I canβt believe you; I understand and Iβm sorry that you were really close to Jonathan and he is gone now but you canβt take your hatred and pain and put it on Zaphira, we even told you from the beginning that there was nothing suspicious about Mira you just wanted to believe there was something strange about her.
What! So, Lexi might know something about momβ¦ But Iβd rather die before talk to her about it.
A long silence passed on the phone, strange feelings welling up inside me as questions filled my mind but answers started to ease previous pains I had including why Lexi hated me so much not that it was going to make us be friends or anything I still had her.
βClarissa, what did she just mean? And what are you talking about what suspicious things does Lexi think about my mother?β I asked.
A long silence passed before she said anything I could hear the sound of something in the background as Lexi mumbled something to herself before vanishing from hearing distance.
βDammit Lexi! Can she just leave things the way they are? Iβll tell you about it when you get here after school, Iβm going to let you go now youβre probably almost to school.β Clarissa said hanging up the phone before I could say anything.
I looked up I could see the school and all the kids walking around Eliziaβs car parked in her usual spot as she talked to somebody.
