Chapter ~ 20~

I opened the front door and stepped out locking the door behind me before making my way to the bus stop.

β€œI really hope that the historian could answer my questions, it would make understanding what I’m looking for easier.” I said to myself as I got close to the bus stop a few people lingering as they waited for the bus.

I hovered by the benches popping my headphones into my ears and playing my music as I waited, the cool fall breeze swaying all around me. Leaves being carried off by the wind down the road.

I listened to the beat of a song as it started to play, the few people that waited for the bus minding their own business as they did their own thing.

A bench just as one of the people got up giving up on the wait for the bus when a shiver went down my spine.

I looked around to see if there were other people around that I didn’t notice. The only people nearby were the people waiting for the bus.

Why does it feel like… It feels like somebody’s behind me but there is nobody there.

I turned around to see an empty road not even a car driving down the road. I shivered once more just before the sound of its engines soothing me from the uncomfortable feeling.

Everyone slowly got onto the bus, I glanced behind myself as I stepped into the bus checking to see if anyone was behind me. I sighed as I paid the driver then searched for an empty spot at the back of the bus.

β€œDid you get any information?” Blane texted drive off.

β€œNo, I haven’t yet I just got on the bus.” I typed before looking out the window watching the town pass by.

β€œLet me know when you get to the museum, if Elizia finishes up before you leave I’ll meet you there.” Blane texted.

I glanced at his message about to reply when a shadow passed the window. My heart dropping in my chest as I pressed my face to it and looked back as far as the window could allow me but nothing was there not even a bird flew by.

β€œJesus, what’s with me why am I so jumpy?” I mumbled to myself as my mind shifted to the strange memories of the warning.

Is it true? Are people really trying to find me but why? What could they want with me and… Wait what about that Blane look-alike is he one of them?

I pulled to get off as the bus got close to the museum, people walking swiftly to their destinations as the bus pulled up. I shook my mind taking the Blane look-alike out of my mind annoyed at every time I thought of him.

I watched the bus drive off before walking towards the museum the huge building blooming down over me as to sun was blocked off by the building.

β€œHere’s hoping we find something.” I said to myself as I quickly ran up the stairs and into the museum.

People walked around admiring the pieces of art and statues that scattered across the museum.

β€œExcuse me, do you know where I could find somebody that I can talk to about old symbols and languages?” I asked as I walked up to a random museum operator.

The woman looked at me hesitantly for second before looking around seeing if there was any nearby.

β€œYou can talk to Mr. Welsh he’s down the hall to the left there should be a giant door that leads to him.” The woman said finally as she pointed in the direction that I had to go in.

I sighed as I walked down the long corridors passing statues of various things on my way until I came across Egyptian statues and plates sprawled with hieroglyphics.

β€œI must be getting closer, or I’ve gone the wrong way and I’m going closer to the Egyptian exhibit.” I said to myself fearing that I may have taken a wrong turn.

β€œWhat a fine specimen,” a voice said sounding excited. I kept walking and told the voice got louder. β€œI’ve never seen such a piece like this, I cannot wait to put it up in the exhibit.”

I could see a man talking to somebody holding something in his hands I stopped and waited not wanting to interrupt their conversation.

β€œI look forward to working with you more in the future Mr. Welsh.” The other man said before tipping his hat like seen in movies and walking towards me. I stared blankly as I watched him come closer whistling as he mindlessly kept to himself.

β€œMiss.” The man said tipping his hat again before walking past me.

What did I just see? I did not know man actually did that or is that just a him thing? I guess hats like that do exist still I should tell Blane about that.

I shook my head before walking towards Mr. Welsh who looked happy as he looked at some sort of plate.

β€œExcuse me,” I said as I stopped close enough for Mr. Welsh to notice me. β€œAre you Mr. Welsh?” I asked pretending I had no idea who he was or that I heard their conversation.

β€œYes, and how can I help you miss?” He asked politely as he moved towards a small cabinet and stuck the tablet in.

β€œI was hoping I could talk to about an old symbol possibly an old language I’m not really sure.” I spoke.

Mr. Welsh looked at me intrigued as he scanned me as if I had something on me. He didn’t say anything for a good moment he just observed me as if I was a new specimen he could put in the exhibit.

β€œCertainly, what exactly do you want to talk to me about?” He finally asked as he gestured for me to follow him.

β€œI found an old piece of jewelry and one of my family boxes and I was just wondering if you knew what language was engraved on this pendant.” I asked as I pulled out my pendant from inside my shirt.

Mr. Welsh looked at it with fascination his eyes widening as he observed every detail of dependent.

β€œMy how interesting, the materials that make this pendant are quite unusual and these engravings.” Mr. Welsh said.

β€œWhat do you mean?” I asked confused β€œI thought the material was gold or maybe fake gold?”

β€œIt certainly looks like it doesn’t?” Mr. Welsh said. β€œBut it is not made from gold and the engravings are certainly similar to older languages possibly a mix between ancient Greek and Nordic ruins.” Mr. Welsh said fascinated.

β€œThat’s what me and my friend thought it looked very similar to their language though we weren’t entirely sure, I did my own research earlier before coming here but I couldn’t seem to find a match none of the symbols were exactly on par with what engraved.” I said.

Mr. Welsh looked thoughtful his eyes moving at an unbelievable speed as he looked at the pendant.

β€œThat’s because it is not of either, it looks very similar to the Greek alphabet but not a single one would match, same goes for the Nordic ruins though if you were to tell somebody that it was a mix between both you could certainly fool them.” Mr. Welsh said.

Wait so what engraved is neither language? Then what language is on here and is it even real? And what kind of material made this necklace if it’s not silver or gold?

β€œSo then what language is engraved if it’s even a language?” I asked curiously.

β€œThat’s a good question, but I don’t have the answer from the looks of it, it is for sure something is written it is a language just not any that exist.” Mr. Welsh said almost glued to the necklace.

β€œWhat! How is that even possible? How could anyone get up medallion with engravings from a language that doesn’t even exist?” I asked mostly for myself.

Mr. Welsh shook his head before turning his head towards a giant enormous plaque on the wall.

β€œTake a look at this, this is a plaque with almost every language written that has been discovered on earth” he said as he gestured to it almost pleased with himself.

β€œYou could for sure find any language including old ones such as Latin but there are no languages that are a mix of an already existing language especially with its own style.” Mr. Welsh said.

I looked at the clock on the wall scanning each language and the country that it is linked to. Coming across languages and countries I never even heard of. Where were those countries when learning about the globe? I have never seen half of these.

β€œSo then would you know the material that the necklace is made of then? I really did think it was made of silver or something.” I said as I took off the pendant to let him hold it.

Mr. Welsh took the necklace scanning it and observing it as he felt around as if the necklace would’ve told him what it was made of.

β€œUnfortunately, I don’t have the answers for that either, it feels heavy could probably be past office silver but the material is too thick too bulky to be silver and gold is a little thinner than this… Actually, may be somebody could tell us come with me.” Mr. Welsh said as I followed him.

Mr. Welsh led to me through another massive area mostly for old historical events and strange stones.

β€œI believe Jacob could be better used for this he is a geologist and studies metals as well he has more experience in this than I would.” He said knocking on Jacob’s door.

β€œIsaac good to see a man.” Jacob said answering the door excited before his eyes veered to me with a puzzled expression.

β€œHey Jacob we need your help,” Mr. Welsh said as he pointed to me. β€œThis young lady has a necklace made of very strange material and we were wondering if you would shed some light on what material it is made of.”

Jacob looked at then at Mr. Welsh for a brief moment. β€œCertainly, what do you need help with?” Jacob asked as he gestured for us to enter his office.

β€œThis medallion we are trying to figure out what material this is made of, it looks like it could be made of silver or gold.” Mr. Welsh said as he handed Jacob the necklace.

Jacob took observing the pendant with great intensity. β€œIsaac have you observed this pendant? These symbols… They seem strange very similar to previous languages but for some reason it seems veryβ€”

β€œYes, I have observed it, I was just saying how similar the symbols were myself but unfortunately the symbols are not connected to any current or previous languages of earth.” Mr. Welsh said.

β€œThis pendant could be very good for the museum, the research it could take us to figuring out the language and the materials used to could send a lot more people to the Astorian museum.” Jacob said as he put the medallion under something to observe it closely.

β€œWhere did you find such a miraculous thing Isaac?” Jacob asked as he went through books and microscopes.

β€œI did not find it,, it belongs to this young girl here.” Sitting down in a chair.

β€œInteresting where did you find it little girl? Jacob asked as he shook his head disappointedly as he went through another book.

β€œI didn’t find it, my mother passed down to me before she passed away it supposed to be…” I began as I tried to think.

Wait what is it supposed to be? Was it something that I was supposed own arm wasn’t something I was supposed to earn? And if she was going to leave it for me before she died, why hasn’t she bring it up to me before or at least specify that I should have looked at notes. β€œ

β€œWell, unfortunately I can’t figure out what material that is made of it is not any of the materials that we have on record, it definitely is not silver or gold but it is very strong almost unbreakable.” Jacob said as he walked up towards me giving me back the necklace.

β€œSo, you’re telling us that it is not any material here?” Mr. Welch asked as if to confirm.

β€œPrecisely, whatever material that is we have not discovered it or accessible on this planet. It is almost alien -like, the material it is made of… Sturdy to whatever it’s made of, it is certainly very strong similar to tungsten.” Jacob said.

β€œTungsten? What kind of material is that?” I asked confused.

Jacob looked at me and smiled as he reached around his desk grabbing a big round rock that was shiny from inside a box.

β€œThis is tungsten, it is one of the strongest out there outside of steel it is very hard to break and can be very heavy.” Jacob said as he showed me the rock.

β€œJacob… You just happen to have tungsten office?” Mr. Welch asked looking puzzled.

β€œWill of course I do, I have almost every type of metal stone and or rock in my office not including a copy out on display the older of the material essay for the box placed.”

Mr. Welsh and I looked at each other confused before looking back at Jacob who looked unfazed.

β€œWell, I hope that helped you with your question.” Mr. Welsh said as he opened Jacob’s office door.

β€œIt did think you very much,” I said thanking Mr. Welch as he escorted me outside of Jacob’s office. β€œAnd think you, Jacob.” I said popping my head back into his office, real quick.

β€œAny time and if you happen to come across any more of those necklaces or materials, please bring them into the we would love to put them on display.” Jacob said respectfully.

I followed Mr. Welsh back to the main lobby of the Museum before smiling at him and waving goodbye.

Well, that helped a lot but it doesn’t actually help me figure out what the symbols are if it’s not in a language that is on this planet then where did mom get this necklace? And what language is this?
