300 Days With The Alpha Beta Triplets

Chapter CORRUPT SPIRITS

THIRD PERSON POV:

The early morning sun crept through the curtains, casting a soft glow across the room. Hazel stirred first from her slumber, her body aching as she shifted against the cold floor. A dull, throbbing headache pounded at her temples, and when she blinked her eyes open, the events of last night felt like a hazy blur.

Next to her was Riley, who groaned as he slowly opened his eyes. His hand instinctively reached for his head, as if trying to push away the pain.

"Ugh, what the hell happened?" Riley mumbled, squinting at the ceiling before glancing over at Hazel with confusion etched on his face. "Why are we on the floor?"

Hazel pushed herself up, groaning as the ache in her muscles intensified. Her mind felt foggy. It was a jumbled mess of fragments of last night, but as soon as her eyes fell on her spell book, which was on the floor, she remembered the spell, and the shifting table, and the wind that took them out.

Her voice faltered as everything pieced together. Then she glanced at Riley, her pulse quickening. "Do you remember the spell?"

Riley sat up slowly, groaning again as he leaned back against the wall.

"Yeah... sort of. You started chanting, and then something in the room moved, and after that..." His voice trailed off as he shook his head. "I can't remember much. It's all a blur."

Hazel's heart raced as she forced herself up. Her legs felt weak, but she managed to stand. She felt a small feeling of victory. Before she could say anything, the shrill ring of her phone pierced the silence, causing her to flinch, and she collapsed to the floor in panic.

She scrambled to her feet again. This time, she ignored the protests of her aching body and hurried over to her bag where the phone was buried. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the name flashing across the screen. It was Bella.

"Bella?" Hazel said, trying to keep her voice steady, though her heart raced with mounting dread, contemplating whether to tell Bella what had happened.

On the other end, Bella's voice was shaky and filled with tension, which made Hazel sense something was wrong. "Hazel, something happened last night. I think I'm losing my mind, or we are in danger."

Hazel's breath caught in her throat. She exchanged a quick glance with Riley.

"What do you mean? What happened?"

"I-I woke up because someone was calling me," Bella stammered. "It was Bonnie. I don't know how, but I heard her voice, and she led me to... I nearly... Finn had to stop me." Bella's words came out in a rush, and she barely said anything coherent, but Hazel understood. She had seen her dead parents, and Bella had seen her dead best friend.

Hazel's pulse quickened.

"Bonnie? Are you sure it was her?" She glanced at Riley as she put the phone on speaker.

She wanted to be sure.

"I know it was her. I heard her," Bella insisted. "She was calling me Hazel, and I almost... killed myself."

Hazel felt a shiver up her body at once, which intensified the pounding in her head. She was getting anxious, and she hated it. She pressed her hand on her forehead as though it would calm her head.

"Bella," Hazel began slowly, "something happened to us last night, too. I tried a spell-something to summon spirits, and everything went wrong. We woke up on the floor, and although I have the memory of what happened, Riley doesn't really have it."

There was a heavy silence on the other end of the line for a moment before Bella spoke.

"This isn't normal, Hazel. We need to figure out what's going on."

"I know," Hazel agreed, her mind already racing through the possibilities. But there was only one person she could think of who might have the answers. "We need to call Halle. She's the only one who can help us make sense of this."

Without waiting for Bella's response, Hazel ended the call and immediately started dialing Halle's number. Riley finally made it to his feet, then walked to the bed, crashing down on it.

As the phone rang, Hazel's fingers trembled slightly. She couldn't tell if it was the tension in the air, but the ringing tone felt longer than it should have as they waited for Halle to pick up. Each second felt like an eternity, creating an unease that settled in her stomach.

Finally, the call clicked through, and Halle's voice came out sharp and direct.

"Hazel? What is it?"

Hazel swallowed hard at Halle's icy tone, but although her aunt scared her, she knew she couldn't do anything without her.

"Halle, something's happening. Bella and I... we had encounters last night. Something supernatural. I tried to summon spirits, and Bella heard Bonnie's voice. We need your help."

"Where are you?" Halle asked, panic laced in her voice.

"Dusk Beach. The Storm's mansion. Riley's parents' house," she tried to explain as much as she could.

"I'm on my way. Don't do anything until I get there!"

The line went dead, and Hazel let out a shaky breath, her heart still racing.

**

As they waited for Halle, Hazel paced around, her mind racing through a thousand thoughts, while Riley sat on the edge of the bed, still nursing his throbbing head. The ringing of Hazel's phone startled both of them. Hazel rushed to grab it, and when she saw Halle's name, she rushed out of the room to the front door. She opened the door to reveal Halle; her face was tight with anger. She stepped inside without a word, and as soon as Hazel locked the door, Halle glared at her intently.

"What the hell were you thinking, Hazel?" Halle's sharp voice came with the first question Hazel anticipated. "Do you have any idea what you've done?"

Hazel took a step back, her heart pounding in her chest. "I-I was trying to understand, to see if it was real. My parents-"

Halle shot her a blazing look. "You summoned a corrupt spirit!" Hazel's mouth fell open when Halle said this.

"Yes, Hazel, it was your parents, but they've been corrupted! You didn't call them back in their true form; you brought back something dangerous, and maybe if you have been practising like I asked you should have known, and you would have noticed the unbalance in the atmosphere two days ago."

Hazel's stomach dropped as Halle's words sank in.

"Corrupted?" Hazel whispered."

Halle shook her head, with frustration etched across her face. "Their energy has been tweaked, probably from someone tampering with them from the other side. That's why they accused you and said all those things."

For a moment, Hazel felt relieved. Her parents didn't hate her.

"Where is Bella?"

"She's in the Frost Pack," she said, and Halle groaned, knowing she would have to take a trip to the Frost Pack. "I kind of feel weak from last night, and Riley's headache isn't disappearing," she said, and Halle's brows wrinkled

more.

"Because you messed with something you shouldn't have. Show me the boy." Hazel nodded, taking Halle up the stairs until they got to Riley's room.

She walked to Riley, then placed her hand on his forehead, muttering some words. As soon as she took her hands off, Riley instantly felt his headache vanish. Then she turned to Hazel, placing her hand on her forehead and repeating the same.

"I figured you would be damaged too, but your spirit is stronger than his. That is why you could remember." She said to Hazel.

Halle's eyes narrowed as she took her hands off Hazel. "Do you have the spell book?"

Hazel nodded and reached for the spell book lying on the floor. She handed it to Halle, who snatched it from her hands and immediately flipped through the pages.

The room was dead silent as Halle searched the book, her eyes scanning the ancient text until she paused. Her brow furrowed, and then her expression darkened.

"The page..." Halle's voice was low, laced with fury. "It's been torn out."

"What?" Hazel leaned closer, her eyes widening as she saw that the page with the spell she had cast was indeed missing and ripped clean from the book.

Halle's lips pressed into a thin line as she slammed the book shut.

"I get it now. Someone's been meddling with magic. Someone opened a portal and corrupted your parents' spirits. They're trying to scare you and Bella. To keep you from tapping into your full power."

Hazel's breath hitched. "Why? Why would someone do that?"

"Because they fear you," Halle replied. "You and Bella are more powerful than they anticipated, and they're not strong enough to defeat you outright. So, they're trying to weaken you mentally and emotionally. If they can scare you into backing off, they'll have the advantage when the real threat comes."

"But Bella almost died," Hazel said, and Halle shook her head.

"It was an illusion. That's why it disappeared when someone else walked in. Yours affected Riley because you summoned the spirits in reality. This is a scare tactic, nothing more. And they aren't powerful enough to cause actual

harm-yet."

Hazel felt a mix of fear and anger bubbling up inside her.

"So, what do we do now?"

Halle crossed her arms.

"First, they made a mistake by coming in here. They took out the page of the spell to stop you from using it. I can track them because their energy is still hovering around the book." She said, then she looked at Hazel.

"As for you and Bella, practice. You need to get stronger, and sharpen your skills and stop hesitating. Because more doom is coming-worse than anything you've faced so far. And if you're not ready, they'll destroy everything." Hazel exchanged a worried look with Riley, but Halle wasn't done.

"I can handle this portal, but I can't fight your battles for you. Whoever's doing this knows you're powerful enough to stop them, which is why they're playing these games."

Halle handed the torn spell book back to Hazel.

"You're going to need to sit up, Hazel. No more mistakes. No more second-guessing. If you and Bella want to survive what's coming, you need to be at your best."

While Hazel died in fear, Halle's stern expression softened as she placed a hand on Hazel's shoulder.

"The look on your face says you understand the grave danger ahead, which is good." A smile formed on her face while Hazel swallowed hard. "Now, let's take care of this portal, and Bella."
