Chapter COMPELLED
Bella:
Seeing the triplets in pain pricked my heart, but I braced myself because they had treated me like an animal earlier.
"This is very cruel of you, Bella, and-"
"You know my name is Bella?" I cut Ryder short before he could finish his sentence.
All this time, he had only called me names or, at best, my surname, but for once, he realized I had a name.
I watched the three of them, fuming on their knees, trying to mask their pain with anger. A part of me prayed they would reject me too, and the other part feared how much pain I would go through when they did.
"What are you waiting for? Too chicken to reject me?" I questioned, trying to push them to their limit.
Ryder was about to speak when Finn grabbed his hand and stood up.
"We know better than to reject you back, Bella, and that is the only way the mate bond can be severed. Even though we are in pain," he paused, grabbing his chest with a frown as he tried to maintain a firm tone, "We won't reject you." After he finished, there was an awkward silence, which caused me to scoff and clap my hands.
"That almost sounds convincing. No wonder you have innocent girls running to your beck and call because they are so gullible," I said, and Ryder got up at once, grabbing Kai, who was still badly hurt.
"Brothers, we need to leave," Ryder said, and the others nodded.
"Bella, I assure you that for what you have done, you will pay dearly. No one insults or mocks the triplets and gets away scot-free, so watch your back, Runestone, because we will come for you!" they said and left the room.
I took a huge breath, grabbing my chest. My emotions were obviously turned off because I didn't want to feel my feelings. It was too painful to reject a mate, but I couldn't help it.
"Are you okay?" Hazel asked, cutting me off from my thoughts.
I looked up to see her standing by the door.
"I think I'm fine," I replied, which was obviously a lie, because all my life, all I had wanted was a mate who would love and cherish me, but it seemed the moon goddess wasn't ready to grant me that.
I took this as my karma for ending someone's life, and I was ready to live with it.
Hazel pulled me into a hug, which wasn't very comforting, but it was better than nothing.
**
For a long time, I had tried to suppress my emotions, but deep down, my vampire was exhausted and hungry. The entire night, I tried to get some sleep, but I couldn't because my nose kept picking up the scent of fresh blood, and I didn't know where I could find a forest where I could easily feed for the night.
"Fuck!" I groaned, opening my eyes and panting heavily, when I couldn't stop thinking of blood.
I looked up to see Hazel fast asleep on the couch in my room, then I felt her veins beating as her neck looked very edible.
"What is going on?" I asked my wolf, who seemed tired.
"You've got to feed, because if you do not, she is going to take over."
My heart skipped a beat, and I jumped out of bed, tiptoeing to the door while making sure Hazel was in a deep sleep. When I got to the door, I gently opened and closed it, sliding into the hallway.
The entire hall was dark and empty, causing a chill to run up my bare feet to my spine. Although I was scared, I had to trust every part of me, so I took off the necklace, taking full control of my vampire side. As soon as she took over, the smell of blood engulfed my nostrils.
I wanted fresh human blood, but I couldn't murder people, so I headed for one place I could get blood for free: the blood bank. With the speed of light, I wafted through the hallway, following my instincts until I got to the door of the bank.
By now, my throat was impatient to get the taste of human blood, so I pushed open the door and rushed straight to the stash, pulling it open and grabbing two bags at once. I ripped them open, stashing them into my mouth and sucking hungrily, allowing the juicy goodness to pacify my hunger. The more blood flowed into my body, the more I regained my strength.
"I'm never going to do that to myself again," I said to myself as I finished the fourth sachet, yet I wasn't satisfied. I had taken a great fall when I could have taken out Fae and compelled the entire school to forget. Although that sounded more difficult, it wasn't completely impossible, and it was better than losing my life for people who didn't give two shits about me.
"Hey, have you seen my friend? She left this-"
Hazel couldn't finish her sentence when I turned back, and she saw me ravishing a sachet of blood.
"Bella?" she asked, with a brow raised. "You... you are a..."
She tried to take off, but I slammed the door faster than she could run. I flashed my fangs at her, causing her to back off, and my eyes darkened more.
"Please, do not hurt me. I am sorry. I just wanted to check up on you because I saw you were gone, and I saw your bow on this part of the hallway."
I chuckled at the way she stuttered, then she paused to look at me. She took a deep breath, and then I smiled at her before grabbing her face and looking into her eyes.
"You didn't see Bella as a vampire. She is a werewolf. You were fast asleep in Bella's room, and you never woke until morning," I said, and then she collapsed into my arms.
I didn't want to do it, and it would be better to have someone who knew, but it was just too risky.
"I'm sorry, Hazel," I muttered, lifting her into my arms.
