Chapter 14

“Alpha! We’ve got rogues on the border!” Ferra came bursting through my office door. It had been a few days since my episode at the bar and I was still struggling to regain my full strength. I jumped up from the desk and fought through the spots in my vision,

“Assemble the warriors.” I ordered her.

“It’s already done, let’s go!” Ferra ran out of my office and I was quick to follow.

Stone met us on the front steps and we all burst into our wolves. We charged towards the border where the rogues were engaging the guard. The warrior wolves were already there and we grossly outnumbered them. My Beta and Gamma joined in on the fight, diving head first into the pile of snarling teeth and flying fur.

I felt Hunter’s strength falter, feeling winded from the short run. I shook my head, growling at my own weakness. Before I could react, one of the rogues plowed into my side and sank his teeth into Hunter’s jugular. Hunter howled in pain. I heard Stone and Ferra calling out to me in the mindlink, but I was already losing consciousness. I felt the rogue ripping into Hunter’s flesh and the wetness of our blood spilling around Hunter’s paws.

My vision began to blur just as I saw Ferra’s white wolf attack the rogue, ripping him to shreds.

“We have to get him to the hospital!” Ferra screamed, having shifted back into her human form. Stone shifted next, picking up Finn’s now human body and running towards the packhouse. Ferra sent two of the patrol wolves to find Clara and bring her to the hospital wing.

“The Alpha has been injured!” Stone yelled as he burst through the doors of the infirmary. The doctor and nurses came scurrying to help. They placed Finn on one of the beds and got to work accessing his wounds.

“He’s lost a lot of blood, Gamma, he’s going to need surgery.” Dr. Maxwell said.

“He’s not healing?” Stone asked, running his hand through his hair anxiously.

“No, he’s not.”

“It’s the mate bond, it’s preventing him from healing. He’s too weak.” Clara said, entering the hospital with Ferra.

“Help him!” Ferra cried to the witch.

“Everyone needs to get out besides the doctors. Now!” Clara ordered, shoving Ferra and Stone out of the infirmary.

Ferra and Stone paced the hallway.

“We need to find Marigold.” Ferra said,

“She needs to get here and make my brother better!”

“Ferra, angel, I know you’re scared,” Stone grabbed Ferra by the arms and tried to soothe her,

“But, this isn’t Marigold’s fault.”

“I know it’s not, it’s Finn’s and his stubbornness.” She growled, her eyes flashing black as her wolf, Rosie, threatened to take over.

“It’s going to be okay, he’s going to be fine.” Stone cooed, bringing Ferra into his chest and stroking her hair as her tears soaked his shirt. In that moment, he wasn’t sure who he was trying to convince more; Ferra or himself.
